Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Away from famous places of Heidelberg and if you want budget hotel, this can be a choice. Clean, easy and free wifi access but very bad quality for bedding, specially mattress on the bed. Do not expect quality of furnitures, amenities etc... No auto-card key in this hotel but classical key to close the door. Around 15mn by walk from bus stop and this hotel is located in the center of a residential area. No cafe, no restaurant around this hotel but there is a supermarket near bus stop. Only one bus (number 22) public transportation to this area from Bismarkplatz in city center and frequency of operation should be checked. Only 2 bus per hour are operated in Sunday. Please check operation hour!

A simple, quiet and clean hotel 15 minutes away from the city centre by tramway. Great price, even when adding 5 euros/pax for breakfast.. Free parking and wifi. Very convenient if you are looking for a budget hotel while staying at reasonable distance from the centre.

It was really inconvenient that we had to check in by 9pm. We had only been in town a couple of hours and then had to dash back to the hotel which meant we had to eat in the hotel area which was difficult as it was so residential. Staff friendly enough (no English) and were happy for us to have some coffee even though we didnt have breakfast - which was nice of them.

My boyfriend and I were staying at this hotel for a wedding. For the Price I paid, I found this hotel pretty great! Everything was really clean, we had our own bathroom and they even provided us with a fan when it was really hot. The Breakfast was also only 5 euros and there is free wifi. They also provide cleaning service! This hotel is really great for the price you pay. We also loved the free parking in front of the hotel. The only thing I didn't like about the hotel was the creepy mannequin in the reception and the smell of the hotel. They staff could be considerate and smoke outside. But overall, great budget hotel!

PLUS: Very good price considering you’re in Germany. There is a large free parking in front. Small but clean rooms. Basic but nice breakfast. Quiet, clean and safe neighborhood. The guy at the reception tried his best to be helpful and gave us the impression this was a family business. Very convenient: a bakery, a grocery store and a pub are almost in the same building with the hotel. AVERAGE: The location is good if you travel by car. You have to use the car or the bus to reach the center. We highly recommend a walk in the old town and a cable car ride to the fortress. MINUS: No elevator and the staircase a bit narrow.

The hotel had a friendly staff that did not speak much English (thank you Goggle translate). The room was clean and spacious. There was ample parking, but you have a bit of a walk to get to the bus. Restaurants are within walking distance. The cost of the room was a value for the money. The one draw back was there was no elevator and the room was on the third floor. The neighborhood was quiet, clean, and secure.

My family stayed here in September 2014. At first glance from the outside, we thought it was rather small and plain. However, we found it to be larger than first thought and the accommodations very comfortable and the staff incredibly friendly. The breakfast was traditional German fare and quite delicious. We were able to have easy access to the wonderful public transportation from this hotel. We also enjoyed the local pub, bakery, grocery store and the pleasure of the local community here. I would definitely revisit the Hotel Kranich and it's delightful surroundings again for a truly authentic German visit!

Stayed here for one night since everything else was booked due to the races in Hockenheim. The room was fine for one night but I wouldn't be able to stick it out for longer than that. Everything looked very dated, very 70's style to include the bedding and the shower tiles. Breakfast was the usual continental fare. The price was right at Euro 45 for bed and breakfast and the place was OK overall. Free WiFi was a bonus.

Our stay at this hotel was pretty bad. The windows were dirty, holes in the sheets, the blanket was threadbare. We had to ask for toilet paper. My husband cleaned something off the wall that look like snot. It felt and looked really run down. The shower door was very hard to close, and had rust stains, etc. Our double bed was just two twin beds pushed together. Most of the night, I was sliding through the crack and giggling. I could go on but what's the point. As another person said parking is free, and there's a grocery story and bakery nearby. It's about a 15 minute drive to Heidelberg which is great. However, after walking around in Heidelberg, I didn't look forward to coming back to the hotel. It was 65 Europe for the three of us so...maybe we got what we paid for.

The hotel is situated in a very comfortable place and with the help of a car or a bus, you could reach the old town as well as the administrative center. Heidelberg is a big city so there's no way you could reach every part of the town in a sec so to say. We would like to pay a special thank you to the hotel manager Sandra Walther and the team at the reception who met all of our needs, wishes and requirements. The rooms are equipped with everything necessary, they are spacy and the internet is good. The parking is in front of the hotel and is free of charge for all the guests. There're also enough shops near the hotel. I'm sure that we are going to stay again here when we arrive back in Heidelberg! Doris Vasileva
