We stayed here for two nights as part of a Passion Play package. The guest-house is ideally located, just a short walk from the town with its restaurants and theatre, and from the station if, like we did, you arrive by train and bus. The Huber family have long been very involved with the Passion Play and there are lots of books and press cuttings in the lounge to look at. There was a photo of the eponymous Otto Huber in this year’s play, but unfortunately we did not get to meet him as he was in hospital, but lots of other family members were on duty. The honesty box system for making tea and coffee was much appreciated and, after the performance, a tot of rum for 1.50 was most welcome. A lovely place to stay.

I stayed here for 2 nights to see the Passion Plays. The location is excellent, just 10 minute walk from the theatre and town centre.it’s family run, and everyone is really helpful. Breakfast is good, plenty of choice.the rooms are small but have everything you could need for a short stay. I would definitely recommend this place.

I stayed overnight at Otto Huber following the Passion Play. The room was clean, comfortable and the welcome friendly, despite the pressure of another group arriving soon afterwards. The breakfast choice was not as wide as in bigger places but still very good.

It was our first time in Germany and we weren't sure what to expect. We got to our accommodation late at night and Otto and Eva (the owners) had waited up for us. Otto shook my hand and then placed a bottle of beer in the other. It was the best welcome ever!

Our room was excellent. We had a great view of the mountains from our balcony and also from a little seating area inside too (perfect for those chilly evenings).

Breakfast was perfect with a selection of meats, breads, cereals, fruit, cakes, yoghurt, fruit juices and a coffee machine which confused and amused.

I can't speak highly enough of Otto. He was so helpful and he brainstormed with me on what to do and see each day. He is also very amusing and likes a bit of banter. Oh, and he's actually quite famous in Oberammergau on account of his involvement with the Passion Play (even though he is quite modest about that). Otto and Eva make you feel very welcome and they are surrounded by lovely staff helping all the way. One night we bumped into Otto on our way out and he told us there was a concert of Bavarian music at Oberammergau Haus - he had just given a speech there. He offered to give us a lift to the venue because he was eager that we should experience some Bavarian culture. It was great!

Gastehaus Otto Huber made our holiday special. It's probably the best place we've stayed in terms of character and location and helpful owners and staff. I recommend it highly.

We hope to go back one day and enjoy some more banter with Otto and some wonderful Bavarian hospitality.

A big THANK YOU to Otto, Eva and the team!

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of June 2010 as part of a package (booked through Dertour) to see the Passion Play.

Lovely guesthouse which has been renovated by the owner, Mr Otto Huber. Mr Huber's family have been involved with the Passion Play for many many years and he actually co-wrote the 2010 Play. There are lots of memorabilia regarding the Play in the guesthouse. With Mr Huber being so heavily involved with the Play it was nice on the evening before the Play when he gave us a very informative talk about the history of the Play and the Play itself.

Rooms are small but very nice and clean with everything that you could possibly want. A decent sized balcony overlooked the garden and towards the town. Food was served in the recently refurbished dining room which overlooks the lovely little garden. Food was good and well presented - more than adequate for this sort of stay. Service was excellent.

The guesthouse is situated a little way from the town centre and as the weather was very good it was a lovely walk. There would be lovely walks into the open countryside to the back of the guesthouse but we did not have time to do this. The little shops in town were obviously geared to the Passion Play and were full of beautiful craft works - a very pleasant way to spend some time. The church and museum are beautiful and we went along to the Son et Lumiere in the church the evening before the Play. We could have spent at least another day exploring the area. The Play itself was amazing and an experience not to be missed.

Mr and Mrs Huber were excellent hosts and it was nice to be give a farewell greeting on the morning of our departure.

A very pleasant stay in a lovely area with friendly and excellent hosts and staff - would recommend this small guesthouse and would have no hesitation in returning for a short stay.

We stayed two nights in September 2010 to see the Passion Play. Otto gave us a real welcome, inspite of being very busy with the Play. The guest house is extremely comfortable with a modern interior. Food was good, too. Oberammergau is a most beautiful village surrounded by mountains. We will be back!

Have just recently returned from a weeks holiday staying at Gastehaus Huber. It is excellently placed if coming by train, just a couple of minutes walk away, yet in a very quiet area. The whole Huber family were very welcoming and they made you feel completely at home. As previously mentioned, Otto takes a genuine interest in each and every guest, remembering all their names and speaking every breakfast time. We were in a group of three couples and whilst there isn't a bar, each night Otto and Eva had bottles of wine for us, which were as cheap as buying in a supermarket in the UK.
Otto recently had suffered a stroke and it was obviously tiring for him managing the Hotel, yet he was there giving advice on where to go or helping us with their bikes they loaned us.
Its located in a lovely area, ideal for exploring by public transport, cycle and on foot and a car is not necessary.
I would certainly like to visit again and I would recommend the Hotel to all.

A large group of us stayed here for two weeks. The rooms were very comfortable and clean with a good shower, hairdryer, shaving mirror, small table and comfy chairs. The room safe was a real bonus. Breakfast was varied and plentiful with boiled eggs cooked to order, fresh fruit salad as well as the usual cereals, cooked meats and cheese. Hot and cold drinks were available throughout the day for a small charge.
Otto and Eva were perfect hosts who went out of their way to make our holiday special: nothing was too much trouble. They both speak excellent English.
We were in Oberammergau for a walking holiday and found plenty of good walks in the area. The guest pass which gave us free travel on the local buses was very useful for exploring a bit further afield.
We were also able to take advantage of the excellent cycle paths with the bikes available at the hotel.

We had a lovely top floor room with a private balcony. Wonderful service and special touches. For example, there's a fridge stocked with beer ... help yourself and leave your Euros in the collection cup. We borrowed bikes to pedal to Ettal -- a very scenic way to see the monastery there. Great breakfast room with bakery goods. Parking at the property. Easy walk to downtown to the restaurants.

Just back from 6 nights in this delightful place. Otto is such a welcoming man, making a point of speaking to everyone at breakfast and is only too happy to help with any issues - his English is good too. We had a room on the top floor with a lovely balcony overlooking the mountains. Great shower and comfy bed, lots of hot water, a lovely breakfast selection and only a few minutes walk from the centre of Oberammergau, the railway and bus station and a nice supermarket. Otto supplies a fridge for visitors to use, keeps coffee on the go all day for only 1 euro per cup and a large fridge full of
beers, soft drinks etc at very reasonable prices - just pay the honesty box and thats it !
Its a little gem, lots of lovely places to sit outside, borrow bikes, umbrellas, games, books, they have thought of everything to make a comfortable and enjoyable stay. If the weather is good try the outdoor pool (Wellenbad) its a nice walk up the river path or catch the bus and don't miss Schloss Linderhof, its not far away and is well worth the visit especially if the sun is shining. Hope to visit again sometime soon.
