Boeld was good for location and walk into town center to see the Passion Play, which we were there to see. Rooms were nice. Buffet breakfast was pretty picked over by the time I got there, which was only 8:30, much of the food was gone. Front desk was very blunt, could use some politeness and friendliness lessons.

After having read so much about the Hotel Bold and having seen it so often during other stays in Oberammergau, I can only say the hotel did not meet up to my expectations. I stay in Oberammergau often (usually at the Sonnenhof) but decided to try something different. From the outside the hotel is a classic Bavarian house with a warm and welcoming sitting area, so I was hoping the rooms would match.

However, things went downhill almost immediatley after my arrival. I was greated warmly at the reception area and given my key. When walking up to the room, all the lights were off in my hallway and I struggled to insert the key into the keyhole. After poking around for a few mnutes I enterd the room only to find it a chilly 35 degrees (outside temperature). I went over the radiator and turned up the heat and....nothing. The heater was broken. I informed the front desk and to their credit, about an hour later someone came up to check it out. Yup, it was broken. I went out to dinner and upon my return it was fixed. So other than the first few hours, and the inconvenience of a chilly room, no large impact. However, still not the best impression.

The rooms in the hotel vary so I can only tell you about mine. Overall it was OK. Lots of space with a big bed, TV (only CNN in english), desk, balcony (unremarkable view of the house next door), phone, mini-bar, alarm clock, and an old couch. The decor in the room and the entire hotel is dated. Worn carpets and worn furniture. The thing that really drove me up the wall was the bathroom. It was apparent that when last rennovated (early 80's?) they decided my room needed a bathroom and shower. So they bought a pre-fab bathroom and put it in the corner. The bathroom was small but functional and had a stand-up shower (not something the Sonnenhof can guarantee). However, there was no hairdryer and the shelf over the sink was so tiny, I could not put the majority of my toiletries out. Walking around the room made you realize the age of the hotel as the floor buckled and squeeked in certain spots. Sleeping was OK, with no significant noise from adjoining rooms although hallway noise seemed a little above normal.

The hotel has a very nice sitting area, a small bar and a very nice restaurant. The decor downstairs is very nice and it seems this is where all the effort goes. Classic Bavarian style with unfinished wood.

The restuarant is a highlight as it is very large, and the food is good. However, it's the most expensive food I've found in Oberammergau and the selection is limited. Breakfast in the morning is inclusive and consists of meats, rolls, some fruit and cereal, soft boiled eggs and jam. A traditional continental breakfast. However, it pales in comparison to the variety offered at the Sonnenhof.

Location is a big plus as the hotel is on the outskirts of town right on the Ammer river and it's only a 5 min walk to the center of town. Scenerary from the hotel (just not my room) is wonderful.

The staff service was extremely good and every request was met with a smile. Every staff member I encountered was proficient in English. Service in the restuarant was also very good.

The hotel has wireless internet, but the signal in my room was so weak, that I was constantly being kicked off. It got so bad that I would go find the router and sit underneath it in the hallway just to have a decent signal. I got lots of strange looks as people walked through the hall until I explained the reason.

There is a suana available, but it is small and requires the staff to turn it on. Then you have to wait a bit until it warms up. Not worth the effort or wait in my opinion.

All in all an OK stay in an average hotel. However, compared to some of the other offerings in Oberammergau, I would not make this my first choice.

I just returned from a fairy tale stay in the Bavarian Alps at the Hotel Bold. Never having been to the area I was not sure what to expect but I must tell you I was wonderfully surprised by what I found at the Hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful or polite. Their English is very good. There is someone available to assistant at any hour. The hotel is exceptionally clean.

Our room was large and well appointed. A large bed with down comforters, a large bathroom with tub and handheld shower and double sinks; a large sitting area that contained a very well stocked mini-bar; two chairs; table; couch and a writing desk. A balcony included table and chairs that looked out at the alps and the beautiful Ammer river.

The breakfast each morning (which was included in the room rate) provided a wonderful selection of breads and rolls; cereals and milk; several types of juice; sliced meats and cheeses; and fruits and yogurt plus hardboiled eggs; soft boiled eggs; ham, sausages, bacon and scrambled eggs and of course coffee - fresh brewed coffee.

We also had several dinners at the hotel as we found their food to be some of the best in the village. The staff was exceptional in service; making sure the order was correct; offering up suggestions and insight into different dishes. We ate outside a couple of nights which was a delight but the dining room inside was also very nice.

The hotel also provides their guests with internet access located in the nice lobby near the bar. I would normally finish my breakfast and take a cup of coffee to the computers to do a daily check of emails. Sitting there listening to the birds while being washed in morning sunshine, sipping coffee while going through a stack of emails was a lot different than the normal rat race!

The hotel is wonderfully located just on the edge of this village where you can hear the rushing waters of the Ammer river, the song of birds and the children at play. Since this is a typical village one can walk almost anywhere to anything in just a matter of minutes, whether to another little cafe, the local church, catch a bus, go to the town hall or stroll along the clean streets and shops. There are fantastic hiking and bike trails all throughout the area and people are very helpful if you get your directions confused.

I am hoping to return to the Bavarian Alps in the near future and would not hesitate to stay again at the wonderful Hotel Bold.

Signed, Mrs R

We arrived in Oberammergau late in the afternoon and the Alte Post was full, so my girlfriend and I drove around and found an available room at the Hotel Bold. The front desk mentioned that the suite was available which was very spacious and recently updated. The bathroom was great and the room had a very nice flatscreen tv. From the balcony, there was a great view of the mountains.

The room was a little pricey as compared to the other rooms in the hotel, but we were just happy to be in a nice room. Next time we are going further down the road to Garmisch, but the hotel was a good choice in Oberammergau.

We have stayed at the Bold several times and each time it was a pleasure. The rooms were exceptionally clean, large and well appointed. The location adjacent to the Ammer River and the town of Oberammergau is perfect. Waking each morning with a view of the Alps and the Koffel is special. The staff treats us like family and reacts easily to our every need. I look forward to returning often.

Stayed here for a night as part of a group to see the passion play. The large rooms with sofa's & jacuzzi tubs is not what we experienced. As 2 solo travelers, we shared a tiny room with 2 twin beds. The place was filthy, I never took my sandals off. Walls were covered with black marks & shower had mold. One look at the carpet where we were dining made me want to gag. The food is below par & our group had to request they replace the curdled cream for coffee more than once. Spend more money & stay elsewhere.

Hotel is on a fairly busy street, and seems to be a bit away from the center of town, but the walk is not even 5 min. Not sure why it is called romantic, certainly 1-2 buses of tourists a day from the likes of Globus tours do not convey any impression of romantic seclusion. We booked superior room for 2, and were situated in a top floor suite of the old building with the bedroom, living room, and a large balcony, overlooking a river and Kofel mountain. The suite was large, although the usable space was limited by sharply slanted ceilings. N.B.: There is no AC, and the heat is by radiators, which are controlled by the hotel, you can not just turn them on when you get cold. As mentioned by many, internet is disastrous, we had no signal in our room. It is annoying, there are only 2 amateur-level routers for the entire building, nowadays it only takes a couple of hundred bucks to improve, but I guess the owners do not read Tripadvisor. Breakfast was pretty good, if you compare it with US chain hotels, but certainly not what you would expect in a reasonable European hotel which bills itself as high-end and romantic. The service people are reasonably friendly. but the note in the room informed us that the bed linens are changed every 3rd day, unless you pay extra E5 a day, and if the linens get too dirty - they will charge you E80 extra. Very romantic! Overall, it was a good base for us to explore the area, but I would only stay there again during the moderate temperature season, and only if I get a good deal

Stayed there for two nights as a part of the Globus tour. The weather was really hot during my visit and having no AC meant really an uncomfortable stay. Neither the bed was comfortable.
The front desk staff was helpful and trying her best to keep all the guests happy. But the hotel is just not equipped with all the necessary amenities like in room tea maker. I won't recommend this hotel.

Dear Prosenjit, thank you for your comment. In Oberammergau we have per year not more than 20 warm days and for this reason we have no Aircondition in our Hotel. If you had a Problem with you bed, eay did you not see the Person on the Front desk and ask for a room Change? We are very sorry for the inconvinions and wish you all the best. Kind regards Claudia

We were not happy with our stay at this hotel.

The staff was extremely rude...Never a friendly word or a smile.
The owner lady even yelled at us for sitting at the "wrong" table at breakfast.

Breakfast was awful(the milk had gone bad in one of the pitchers and when we pointed this out to staff they just rolled their eyes.)
No hot food items were offered except hard boiled eggs.

We were lucky to stay in one of the newly renovated rooms but tour friends of ours ended up in TINY, dated rooms that looked like they hadn't been updated since the 70s.

The hotel IS located in beautiful surroundings.
Very close to the center of Oberammergau.
