Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I nearly did not stay at this place because several previous reviewers warned that they often overbook leaving you stranded. I booked through booking.com after reading said reviews but thought maybe they have improved their system. They took my money a month before I was due to arrive plus I got a confirmation from Booking.com. I actually emailed them as well. Guess what! on the day I was due to arrive there was no door code as should have been expected. I got to the hotel at about 5. Rang several times to the phone number on the glass door. Finally got through to be told room booked. Sorry about it! So we are stuck, Oktober Fest weekend at 5pm on a Thursday. Phoned up booking.com and long story short got another hotel in a nicer area. The area around HIB looks a bit down at heel and parking is a nightmare. Stayed in a nicer hotel near Englischer Garten. So best of luck if you do book this place. You may end up sleeping in your car!

Excellent location beside the train station, takes about 15 mins to get into central station. There is a bakery, supermarket and shopping centre right beside the hotel. The rooms are warm and comfy. The rooms are well decorated and modern. Check in was easy once we got the access code.

This apartment was very near the metro and shopping Center. The space was clean and well equipped and the bed comfortable. The disappointing part was that there was nobody there on arrival and none of the telephone numbers worked. This is not what you want after travelling on a cold evening. Eventually we found someone in a nearby cafe who had another number. We were told a text had been sent but we had been on the road since early morning with the phone turned off and did not receive it. We did get a second text with codes to enter the building and the room. I suggest that these codes be sent out immediately after the booking confirmation.

We booked this hotel 6 months before our arrival through Booking.com and paid the full amount at that time. Less than 24hrs before we were due to check in, we were informed through Booking.com that the hotel had cancelled our booking. At this time we were in the middle of our holiday staying in Bavaria and had a number of frantic hours to communicating with Booking.com to find alternative accommodation, which was difficult at such a late stage. Hotel in Bunker apparently claimed they were overbooked but we had had direct contact with them concerning parking and a request for a twin room so they cannot claim they were unaware of our booking. If we had cancelled at any time we would have lost the full amount, whereas they face no penalty. Luckily Booking.com were helpful and refunded our payment plus refunded the extra cost for the new accommodation. Be very wary of this hotel.

Having read many reviews I felt assured that the room would be perfect but had some worries that my booking hadn't gone through so I emailed the property a couple of times in advance to make sure all was ok and to see if we could check in exactly at 1pm as stated on the site. Communication wasn't prompt and we didn't receive the access codes until nearly 1pm on the day, which wasn't ideal as we were already in Munich and looking forward to dropping our bags off and returning into town, and they also requested more time to get ready before we arrived but check-in using the codes was absolutely straightforward and the room was simply excellent. I'd give all aspects of the accommodation 5 stars, only the slight lack of communication was a little unsettling. Once we were in, it was wonderful - pure luxury and a welcome oasis. The building works going on outside might be a problem during the week but they're due to finish mid-June 19 so the area outside will be cleared. I imagine it would be a problem if you had a car but as we were travelling by train it couldn't have been easier - the train station is 80m from the hotel and the train is straight into Hbhof. This place was exceptional and we enjoyed our stay immensely. Once the building works have finished - I think it's a commercial district plus housing - it will be much busier but can't see it having an adverse effect on the bunker. The addition of a kitchenette was so helpful - we bought in breakfast and snacks and could chill our drinks to enjoy on the terrace. It's so well served too - there's an Aldi 5 minutes away plus one of the best Bavarian restaurants in Munich nearby (it was closed when we visited in May but due to open in high season). There's also a Vietnamese takeaway, a bakery and an Italian restaurant within 5 minutes walk. Can't recommend Hotel im Bunker enough, it was a little slice of luxury a short trip outside the beautiful city of Munich.

I originally booked at another hotel owned by the same company, and 12 days prior to check-in they messaged me through Expedia to tell me that they'd overbooked and were bumping my reservation to Hotel Im Bunker. It was farther outside the city centre than I wanted to be, but the rooms were nicer so I accepted. The nice thing about this hotel is that it's super close to the S-Bahn station Allach. The drawback is that it's surrounded on three sides by construction and no one from the hotel notified us in advance. We never actually saw or spoke to anyone from the hotel. There was no one present on the premises and our only contact was via email. Even then, I had to chase them down to get check-in and door code information. The room itself was clean and designed for a long-term stay, with a mini kitchenette. The latter was well equipped for basic cooking. Because it's a long-term stay facility, there was no daily housekeeping. Furnishings were all modern and attractive, though. Decent place to stay depending on what your priorities are. If you'll use public transit and be out of the room while construction noise is happening, it's okay.

Response from SunnySideApartments, Leiter Front Office at Hotel Im Bunker

Dear Abby, thank you a lot for your feedback. The construction close to the hotel will be a modern shopping mall with over 30 shops, walking area, fountain and 2 supermarkets. We are looking forward to see this shopping mall finished and it is planed to be in Aug 2019. We are very sorry that this construction disturbed you during your stay in our hotel. But very soon all our guests will enjoy the new place for shopping. We would be glad to see you in our hotel again. Best regards from Munich Allach, Your Team from Hotel im Bunker

Whilst I would loved to have post a great review, I cannot due the fact that they did not honour my booking through expedia. We arrived at the hotel at 2pm and struggled to contact anyone for over a hour it was only when I emailed that someone answered the phone only to be told by a uncaring woman that there was no record our booking and that hotel was fully booked. We did look forward to our stay at the Hotel im Bunker, but after being outside the hotel the area did not look to appealing and the Hotel Europa we finally stayed was in a far better locatation.

We booked this hotel as we drove from Italy to Munich . We tried to contact them over 3 days to ensure we could check in after 4pm. We could not get in touch at all. We asked hotels.Com to try to get in touch too, as we booked through them. They also could not contact them. Based on this alone, we cancelled the booking because we weren't willing to take a risk of turning up and not being able to check in - mainly because we were traveling with a baby and also because some other reviews we read mentioned the area was not very safe. Being stranded wasn't a risk we were willing to take late at night.

This is a tough hotel to review. Parking was an issue and checking in was a nightmare! When we arrived on time for check-in (there is only a 1-2hr window that reception is available for check-in) the place was empty and we had to call to obtain the codes for the front door and room doors. Once we got in and eventually when the reception did show up we found out: One of the three penthouse suites we booked 10months in advance was non-existent, and another was rented out as an office well after we initially booked the them, again I will reiterate 10months in advance. The receptionist offered a refund for the difference we paid for the penthouse suites, but we have yet to receive said refund. With that being said, once we settled on the rooms, I will say it was actually a VERY nice stay! (well at least for the 4 of us that got one penthouse and one garden level suite). The exposed showers were a bit odd, but once you get used to it they are actually quite nice. The penthouse had lots of windows that opened up for nice evening breeze. And the window shutters ensured that the room didn't over heat during the day. The suites were equipped with a kitchenette which was also a nice bonus. This hotel is in the suburban neighborhood of Allach and is located at the future site of a park n ride for buses and the stop for the S2 train that goes into downtown Munich and runs pretty much every 15min. It was a great way to experience the real Munich before meeting up with the tourist groups. This is a new hotel with a lot of interesting history as it used to be a WWII bunker. (the original walls are used as decorative features in the rooms) After the initial disappointments this was actually a very nice hotel. But this place has a lot of kinks to smooth out with its management. When they do it will be an awesome hotel.
