My boyfriend surprised me with this beautiful trip to Füssen.

+ View and Location - near to Füssen, beautiful scenario
+ Spa and Pool - due to corona you mostly have the sauna for yourself or the pool. You can really relax and calm down.
+ Clean rooms and everything you need were in the rooms - cleanliness is very important to us during this pandemic and we did feel safe and they cleaned the rooms everyday.
+ Service ❤ I got a surprise breakfast in my room and they were all so friendly. We had dinner in their restaurant and we kinda had a little trouble with the food. They were so kind and apologized and dessert was for free 😍

Thank you, we will come back for sure.
Kind regards
Deborah (and Nico)

Sitting in a great position on the lake the hotel offers comfortable accommodation with many amenities.
We stayed just one night but in good summer weather everything is perfect.
Walking, swimming, and other activities all on hand.
I’m sure the hotel must have its flaws but during our 24 hour stop we didn’t come across any.

To begin with, i want to state that the location of the hotel worth 80% of the money. It is located right on the shore of lake Hopfensee and at the horizon your eyesight stops on the Alps....Grandeur. The hotel is not actually in Fussen but very close to the city, in a quiet and peaceful zone. If you are lucky and get the right weather you will love that place. The hotel is nice and cozy, rooms are big enough, clean and you'll get a small surprise from the hosts. We didn't like the bathroom ventilator which starts on movement sensor so any time you pass the bathroom door the fan started at full speed continuously for 5 to 10 minutes. A bit annoying (but nothing really bad). Most rooms have balcony (and even if they say it's a non smoking hotel you have an ashtray on the balcony so you can smoke there if you like).
The breakfast was quite good, not very diverse but good quality and enough to get you started for the day - visiting the area, the castles, the lake etc. We especially appreciated the fact that there were already cut oranges and a juice machine so we had fresh orange juice (made by us - very nice). The restaurant has the best view as it offers the magnificent landscape (if you get a table at the window so be there early :D).
However, what we didn't like was the program of the hotel's facilities: reception and spa-wellness center. We got there around 22:00 and nobody was at the reception (you have to announce that you'll be late otherwise nobody will be there to give you the key) - we got our key taped on the back door in an envelope :) [not what you'll expect for the money]. Moreover, the spa center starts at 2 pm and ends at 9pm so we could not benefit from it although it was one of the main reasons for the price (the program is not on the website and it is almost sure you'll miss it on the arrival day if you come from a distance of more than 7 hrs of driving as the highways in Germany - we came from the north-east region- are always in maintenance and/or crowded around the big cities, week-time or weekend. So even if you get there at 8pm you won't have time for a nice and relaxing sauna after a long day driving). Additionally, starting the center at 2pm? For instance a visit to the castles takes the whole day so in fact you won't benefit the spa center at all - yet you'll pay for it. So, if they fix this "program issue" it would be great. Also, if you get your key glued on the backdoor you won't get a chance to ask for a good view room for example - you'll get something with the parking place view. In my opinion a 4 stars hotel should have 24/7 reception.
Speaking about the parking place - I recommend to park on the street there are plenty of parking places and they are free. Parking inside the hotel's garage will just charge you 8 euros extra (for nothing, really).
That's all about the hotel. As a general advice announce them if you get there late (even 9pm it's late for them) and park outside - it's free. Also at the end of the street there is Edeka (supermarket) so you can buy snacks, drinks or other things for your trip around the area.
Now somethings about the castles in Schwangau.
Castle Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are 15 minutes by car (I recommend parking on P3; from there just cross the street and go 100m up where you can buy the tickets but booking them online beforehand is really a good idea as it is always crowded! Also, don't be cheap, buy the combo-ticket for both castles so that you'll understand the whole thing - it really makes a difference). Visit Hohenschwangau first
as this will settle the historical foundation for the "Fairy-tale Castle" Neuschwanstein. This castle is located 50m uphill the ticket place. Make sure you get there on the precise time written on your ticket - otherwise you won't be able to get in (miss it and you lost the money and the entrance - no exceptions, you can't discuss/argue/deal with germans). After visiting Hohenschwangau you can go from there (just follow the signs) to the Neuschwanstein Castle by foot (30 minutes max, a bit steep but not too difficult; if the weather is nice I recommend it). However, if you like adventure and you're not afraid of a slope a bit more steep and some stairs then you can go back to the parking place (P3) and from the backyard you'll find a route directly to the castle - 15 minutes max, a bit more difficult and not suitable for disabled people). If you got there and you still have around 40 to 60 minutes left before entrance time you MUST go to the Marienbrucke (Mary's bridge). From there you'll get the Absolute AMAZING-ish Perfect View on the castle (tip: take a jacket or something similar with you there and don't forget the camera!). You don not want to miss this for anything in the world. The route will take you around 15 minutes by foot (one way) so be careful on the timing as you need to be at the entrance precisely at the time written on your ticket. No exceptions-no arguments. Therefore, if you don't have enough time visit the castle and then visit the bridge. The castle tour is interesting but not outstanding (you'll understand why inside). At the exit of the tour, just before the royal kitchens there is a small "Media Room" (or something similar) where it is projected the 3D en-detail of the castle. Go there and spend some time watching it - it really adds up to the experience.
After the visit and the tour to Marienbrucke you can enjoy eating at the canteen that was in the past the place where castle workers (and the king, from time to time) took their meals. It is exactly the same building (you'll recognize it as it has the patine) only the food is different :)
Then, if you parked in P3 you can just take the stairs and descent right at your car in around 10 minutes (see the observation above).
By the way, at the info-point (just across the P3 parking lot) you have free WiFi.
So, if you have the money and you plan to spend good time in this region (more than 2 nights) the Am Hopfensee hotel is a good choice.

If you are a smoker, this is the place for you. Rooms are small and clean but no view of the Alps except from the front steps of the hotel. Breakfast was very good. However, there are nicer hotels in this price range and less in the area.

We booked this hotel for a stay during our visit to the area's castles and we were not disappointed. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time here. We were in room 103 which is a double deluxe with a lake view. And it was. Definitely upgrade to this if you can, especially if you've been staying in typically tiny European rooms. Having a couch and chairs felt luxurious. The nesspresso machine was also a nice feature. The bathroom was very nice and the room was huge. We had multiple windows looking over the lake and a very large deck. There were bikes and kayaks to rent and multiple restaurant options in the area. Breakfast was included and was nice. We didn't use the spa but it looked lovely. We ended up with free parking just across the street but they offered pre reserved parking at a small fee. It wasn't as close to Fussen as someone without a car might expect. If you are taking the train don't stay here.

Although it was the most expensive hotel we stayed in during our trip across Europe,we nevertheless felt we had good hospitable service, quality rooms and the most amazing breakfasts. We decided against eating in the hotel restaurant however because there were popular alternatives close by, an Italian pizzeria next door, a fish restaurant opposite beside the lake. We occupied two rooms and the views were down the sides of the building with therefore partial views of the lake. But I imagine we got what we paid for.
Disappointingly we neglected to enquire at reception about booking our visit to the Royal Castles so queued for almost 3 hours in the heat, only to subsequently learn that the hotel could have reserved our tickets ahead for us and saved us that needless trauma. Please bear this in mind if you intend to visit these castles during your stay.

The only good thing about this hotel is location - right infront of the lake, good view on Alps, 5 min from Füssen and Neuschwanstein castle. But that was just it. Hotel is very old. Our triple room 105 was smelly, especially bathroom, even towels didn't feel being clean. It had nothing to do with the pictures that were placed in booking.com - we felt really cheated with so many nice guesthouses around. Breakfast was also basic, and you need to get up as early as 7 to get your croissant, otherwise you'll eat yesterday's bread. I would love to come back during the winter time but never to this hotel.

The lady in charge (maybe owner) was very rude and unprofessional, and the staff/waiter were also not friendly. The room was not clean with heavy smoking smell and the bedding felt not changed, and many stains on the ground and walls. The smelly bathroom had no supplies except a towel. The included breakfast had very few items such as cold eggs (don't be fooled by the restaurant setting facing the lake). It had no internet connection nor wireless even though it advertised to have.

They would try to charge additional at any chance, like 10 euro for parking in front as in fact parking in the city owned lot in front (between the hotel and the lake) is free between 7pm and 9am and free 2 hour parking during daytime. The hotel is located near the beautiful lake on a road with other B&B hotels, and might be the cheapest (as it indeed feels cheap). It is about 2 miles from Fussen. I would avoid this horrible hotel and its restaurant.

We booked a last minute room at Hotel am Hopfensee and were not disappointed. The room was good sized, clean and offered a comfortable double bed. Bathroom was clean and well stocked. We wish we had more time to enjoy the spa but the nearby castles awaited us. The lake was absolutely gorgeous both at sunset and in the morning. The breakfast buffet was included with our room and was well-stocked and delicious. A solid lodging experience.

We had a large group of family and friends traveling through Germany as part of a week long wedding celebration, and Hotel Am Hopfensee hosted us all for several nights. Our stay was perfect. The staff, the location, the hotel itself and amenities were excellent. The breakfast was great each morning, the bar was comfortable and friendly each evening! I can't recommend this place enough!
