Absolutely lovely stay. It is a family run hotel and the front staff was ran by the father who is an absolutely lovely man. We were always greeted warmly and was a wealth of information and history. The room was very charming and quite large. We stayed in the basic double room and it felt far from basic. It was also quite clean. It is situated on the edge walls of Rothenburg and although we didn’t upgrade to have a valley view, you do get nice views from the hotel patio or the breakfast area. Highly recommend this hotel. Only downfall, is no elevator, but understandable considering the age. The hotel is charming throughout. It was a toss up between this hotel and Hotel Markusturm, which is owned by the son of the man who helps operate the Burghotel, so either way we were staying with this family. We were happy we chose this hotel though as it is a bit off the hustle and bustle of the town.

Very nice hotel, unfortunately it was near a church where bells rang at hour and 1/2 hour. Not very good for sleeping. Kept us up most of night. Breakfast was good. Staff was very friendly. Too bad it's where it is. Otherwise lovely!

We stayed here only for one night, but boy was it memorable! Location is very convenient close to Kirchplatz. Onsite parking for 10 €. The room we had was huge with a sitting room and lots of closets. Best was the walkout to the terrace looking out to a wonderful view of the valley. Outstanding service. Breakfast was very filling as well. Will stay here again in a heartbeat.

Four pleasant days in a very good hotel. Burg Hotel is a very nice small, family run hotel, in a quiet and nicely convenient location. All the people and the whole atmosphere in the hotel are very friendly. Rather simple. though substantial, breakfast in a very pleasant room with a marvelous view. Nice experience

Yet again we visited Burg Hotel. I have lost counts on how many times I have been here. A fantastic old hotel on the old wall of Rothenburg. The city is a marvel of a place with old buildings all over. The city is a must see, and Burg Hotel is a fantastic place to stay the night there. Free wifi and freezer in the room. Breakfast can be eaten on the wall if the weather is good. Parking garage for a small sum extra. Will be back again next year, I hope.

There are hotels, and then there “are” hotels. This was my favorite place in our month-long journey through Bavaria. Hopefully, you will have a chance to meet 84-year-old “Otto,” the manager of The Burg. His daughter is actually the proprietor, while he helps operate the establishment. You will find him sitting down in the front foyer sipping his coffee, or eating a slice of cake or just reading the paper--and sometimes napping. If you talk to Otto, you will find out that he is part of an 8-generation family that has lived in Rothenburg a long time. He was five years old in 1945 when a bomb exploded outside his family’s hotel in town. Luckily, an American officer called off the air-strikes as this officer once vacationed in Rothenburg before the war. Otto states, “The Americans were good to us.” Otto may tell you that the James Bond character, Roger Moore, once stayed at the Burg. He will “not” tell you what room Roger stayed in—I tried four times to do so. The WIFI code is “Bond—007.” Besides the memories, my fondest collection is Otto’s hand-written receipt—impeccable handwriting. We stayed at the Burg for three days in early June of 2023. We arrived by train and used Google to help us navigate a walking path to the Burg. We would recommend calling The Burg having a taxi pick you up. The cost of going back to the train station by taxi was about $9.00US—well worth it. If you have a car, there is a good size garage on property. Make arrangements before hand. At 10 Euros, it is a superb rate. On-line you can choose a room. We picked Room #15. We highly recommend that room as it has not one, but two windows that face into the valley. I really think Roger stayed in this room—but Otto will never tell. Our room has a four-posted bed. After running into one of the posts at night, I quickly learned how to navigate through the large room. There was a smaller, but comfortable bed to the far end of the room. The bathroom was, indeed, adequate. Breakfasts are a treat. Tables are located in a separate breakfast area over-looking the valley. Having decaffeinated coffee was not a problem. Eggs were cooked to order. The bread and croissants were heavenly. In early June, the nightly temperatures went down to the low 50’s-10C. Otto says “it really does not get hot in Rothenburg. Google says that the average highs in the summer is 74F. In any case, there was a large fan in the room for us warm-blooded people. If there is a fault to the Burg, well, it was getting ice. My wife needed it for her shoulder. Usually, the restaurant, owned by the daughter, would provide ice across the street. The restaurant, unfortunately, was closed at our visit. A staff member will take your bags upstairs as their is no elevator. We would recommend highly of trekking around the mile-long Medieval walls. It is free. We did like the outside restaurant of Reichskuchenme, which Otto recommended. The restaurant, Zur Hoell, was a bit of a disappointment. The pork and steak had little taste. One of Rick Steves recommendations that did not pan out. Luckily, the Burg has not been found out by Ricky. We thoroughly enjoyed Castle Gardens close by the Burg and a walk down in the valley to Toppler’s Castle. We found the kiosk along the wall by “Franziskanerturn” to have the best priced beer for $2.50US. Helga has rented this small establishment for nine years. It did appear that the Night Watchman Tour seemed awfully popular. Have fun. If you found this review to be “helpful” in any way, please press “Thumbs up” to let me know.

Wonderful experience although we only stayed one night. Rarely do I like to go to the same place twice but I certainly hope to return again. I would suggest a minimum 2-nights for a visit to this city and longer if you just want to decompress in the slow, relaxing pace. One thing I really noticed about the hotel and the city in general, when I awoke in the evening and early morning, there was not a sound to be heard. Wonderful quiet.

Fabulous stay! Otto welcomed us and very attentive entire stay. Room beautiful and spacious, opened onto a large balcony area. Views and bird songs very nice. Breakfast upstairs, eggs if desired, pasty/fruit /juice/yogurt/meats and cheese. Parking for 10€ per night a short distance uphill, adequate but a bit tight for full size BMW wagon, of course the town really meant for waking.

We loved our stay here! We fell in love with Rothenburg and with the hotel. Otto was a wonderful innkeeper, we will keep our handwritten check out receipt as a memento from our trip forever! Our room was huge, the biggest room of our 4 country trip by far! The staff at breakfast were very kind. I would love to return to Rothenburg and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

Very agreeable old-style family-run hotel, with nice furniture, lovely views and a central location. But bathroom fittings, breakfast, etc. were all modern and good quality. We, and other friends, loved our stay there.
