No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays,

thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.

I agree with the other answers. It is a new, modern, clean facility very very well served by many kinds of public transportation. Trams are half street crossing from the hotel reception door. Which makes Alexanderplatz with all its connections to everywhere in Berlin 10 minutes away from you and your mother.
When my mother visited me in Berlin, Andel's had not been opened yet. And I hosted her at Derag Livinghotel Grosser Kurfürst. It is a more traditional and older 4 star hotel, but it is much closer to city center and has the Markishes Museum subway station a few steps away from the front door. This station is part of the U2 line with has stations close to many touristic/historic places, including Alexanderplatz, and connects to other lines as U6 that also serves other touristic places. That way you and your mother will reach places commuting much less.
Maybe you would like to consider this option.

Public transport is great in Berlin just make sure you buy a Berlin Welcome card at the airport which will give you unlimited travel for the number of days you specify.
