The "Ab Greifhostel" is located in the Pankow district near the trendy Prenzlauer Berg district and is one of the cheapest places to stay in Berlin. I have stayed in a 10-bed-dorm for 5 euros. My roommates were very disciplined, so you actually could relax at night (not usual for this room size). I have booked through hostelworld, but you...

The hostel isn't too far from Schönefeld Airport which is a plus, it was also cheap to get there, and at a cost of around 3 Euros for a single train ticket (or around 35 Euros if you wanted to get a taxi), it wasn't too bad. I found the hostel to be very clean and tidy and in a...

I was booked to stay for 5 nights and could only take 1. I don't know how this hostel rates so highly in different sites... breakfast is 5€ and you don't get much for that! It really is very very far from anything (yes the tram is there, but make sure you buy a metro ticket before getting to the...

By far the cheapest hostel in Berlin and astounding quality must make this the best hostel in Berlin. I got in on a deal with HB (less than 5 euros!). Added to that the staff were friendly and extremely helpful e.g. there was a thunder snorer and I was moved to a different room within an hour at 2 AM....

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.

“Choose your room carefully and avoid the really big ones with the potential for many many people - they aren't well maintained... I'm sure the single or 4-person rooms are better maintained (at least from the other reviews I've read). But keep in mind linens are not always the cleanest!”
