Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

"Funky" can be defined as a cool, Sixties hippie place, or a place so stanky your Mom would run away from it in minutes. Make sure you know which one you want, before you stay here. To me, it looked like the home of the Addams Family. Dark hallways, missing or broken bulbs in most fixtures. I stayed for a few nights and then left town and then came back. I asked for a different room because the bed in the first room was too short for an adult. I came back a second time because the hotel refused to waive any of my pre-payment deposit, which I requested because I am partially disabled and my condition had flared up, and the elevator does not go to the ground floor all the time. The long stairway was very difficult for me. Towels were shabby. Internet doesn't work well. There was loud noise every night from 5 to 8 from the floor above. Poor heating. One day I returned to the room and the cleaning staff had left it unlocked all day. Breakfast was standard. You have to ask for shower and bathroom amenities. There was a dirty bottle in the room when I checked in. Most important is that I do not think that there are smoke alarms in the rooms! The location is great, with restaurants all around.

A great place to stay - central location, charming host, clean and comfortable room, good breakfast and above all a splendidly atmospheric hotel . There's a mood of early C20th movie glamour and history - intensified by photos of silent film star Asta Nielsen and by the presence of a 1920s lift, worth a try. Highly recommended.

The Hotel Pension Funk is an amazing hotel: authentic 1920s style and elegance with comfort! Once the residence of a silent movie star, the management have kept the historical ambience with tasteful period furnishings without neglecting the necessities. The rooms are comfy, warm, and quiet; the continental breakfast is tasty and served in a fabulous dining room that Bertie Wooster would have admired had he visited Berlin. The staff are friendly, informative, and accommodating; the location (right off Kurfurstendamm) is as central as you need to be, on a quiet street with the Kathe Kollwitz museum almost literally across the road. So, if you enjoy soulless corporate contemporary blandness (am I in Dublin or Dubai? can't tell from my hotel room) this is not for you, but if you enjoy a lovely hotel with atmosphere to spare, it's highly recommended!

I loved my stay here. It's a quiet place that is walking distance to all kinds of neat stuff. Nice old furniture, good yogurt for breakfast. Don't expect American style amenities. We had a very small room with more of a cot than a full bed, but I saw than nicer rooms were decked out as suits. The staff was pleasant at check in.

This is a very old, historical hotel. I was impressed with the reasonable rates. Our room was beautiful and the architectural details were amazing. It is important to know what you are getting in to before you commit. To use the toilet we had to go across the hall (not a big deal) but the toilet room was right next to the office of the hotel. There was a shower in our room, but not a bathtub. It is not separated from the room at all, which was a problem for us and we had mixed gender family members traveling together who did not want to shower in front of each other. If you sat in certain locations in the room you could see everything happening in the shower by looking at the mirror. So, I would recommend this type of room for a couple, or for people with not modesty needs. The breakfast was good, adequate, but not fabulous. The hotel is located in a nice neighborhood. We felt safe. I would stay there again, because I loved the non cookie cutter feel of it, but I would probably try out a different room to see if the privacy situation might be a little better.

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in, perfectly located in the city centre, off the beaten track, would align this to Kensington UK, but much friendlier! No ‘airs and graces’ a wonderful Art Deco apartment with the features retained. Rooms remarkably quite! Well worth considering!

Pension Funk is a very nice, small hotel near Kurfurstendam. The metro stop, which will take you anywhere in the city, is just a few blocks away. The building is well secured with a main entry key and a separate key into the Pension itself. Breakfasts are very nice with a wide selection of pastries, fruit, cereal, eggs--a real bargain at 6 euros. There is an elevator available, but we didn't use it. The Pension is a breathtaking climb of several flights of stairs, and the staff is willing to help carry luggage when you buzz in at the front door intercom. Our room was nice, but --as older travelers--we found that the metal spring mattress foundation was not the most comfortable. Carpets in Pension Funk could use an update, or at the very least a good cleaning. Other than that, everything was great and I would recommend Pension Funk for its price and location.

My friend and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and it was perfect! The facade of the building is beautiful and the street is in a great location, there is an underground station not even a 5 min walk away and an S-bahn about 10 mins away. The area is full of really lovely buildings and shops so we really didn't mind the walk at all. We found the area to be quite safe as well, it remained lively at night so it wasn't isolated and you have to have a key to the hotel in order to actually get inside the building which was very reassuring for 2 young women! We had a great room with a bathroom and had no problems at all in this regard. We didn't try the breakfast but it was a reasonable €6 a day. The only thing I would say is that there was no safe in the hotel room but the requirement for a key to get in the building gave us peace of mind. Also my friend found it a bit rowdy at night time, but I'm a heavy sleeper and can't say I share this complaint. If you're looking for something quirky in a good spot then this is the place for you! Thanks

PENSION FUNK stands on FasenenStrasse an elegant address a few meters from the mythical Kudam, in the heart of Western Berlin. Once you push the door you are smothered with comfort and atmosphere very much in the times of Cabaret, the golden decade of the 20's. Room size and comfort are quite different from the tiny single to the very lary double room, but all fit for a modern traveler and benefit of the generous breakfast buffet and free wifi. Last but not least, the whole team of the Funk Pension will do its best to make your stay in Berlin a perfect one and provides you with all necesary information.

My parents and I stayed here during our recent trip to Berlin. We had a great 3-bed room with bathroom and shower. Plenty of space and fun decor! I love little local places with character, and this fit the bill. They have a great breakfast, and the breakfast room is full of older posters featuring the silent film star who used to own the building. Pension Funk is also located in a very walkable area--plenty of restaurants--and near a main street so it was easy to catch the bus or train to different areas. This is such a unique place to say--I highly recommend!
