I wanted to share my experience here in this review , since no one bothered to inquire during checkout if I was pleased or unpleased with my stay. I booked this hotel as a amex platinum member Checkin — My stay started with welcome drink during check in, however the gentleman checking us in didn’t want to open another fresh bottle for my husband, so he just handed me alone a solo glass. Half way to the elevator, my husband feeling left out literally had to ASK for a cup of his own. POOL CLOSED WITHOUT NOTICE AT BOOKING- I inquired as to which hours the pool would be open, but was told it was closed for construction! I want to mention that with prior bookings (as I book often with amex there is ALWAYS A WARNING , window or comment that CONFIRMS to clients any restaurants, facilities or pool closures. Always! This was not the case during my booking. And I was really disappointed. I felt this information was intentionally hid from clients. I also found out that I could not get breakfast to my room which was included with the amex booking. I had to go down to the buffet. One of the best services I look forward to is breakfast to the room like at the balmoral. All rocco properties should have the same system. TERRIBLE ROOM VIEW As soon as we saw the room we were disappointed because the view faced another wall in the inner court yard, in fact it reminded us much of the Stasi prison we went to visit during our museum visits of berlin. So dark depressing, no natural sunlight and a view of office buildings. Also the furnishings are old and run down But we tried not to worry about it, after all we were visiting Berlin to enjoy the city. RUDE SPA STAFF- We went down to the spa as I wanted to arrange a massage and facial. The lady with brown short hair who works at the spa was such a rude lady(no wonder they keep her in the dungeon lol) , she immediately made me feel unwelcome and kept pressing me to explain if I was staying at the hotel or just “wandering around or why I was there” it seemed like she cared more about trying to find a way to cast me out of the hotel then to answer my questions or sell me spa services. My husband and I just decided to leave because she was so rude and after I had asked her to see the facilities of the steam room ect and when she REFUSED, I knew it was time to leave. CONSTANT INTERROGATION There was a theme throughout our stay and for the first 2 days it consisted of constant interrogation. We would enter new the elevator going to our room and would be Asked “Are you looking for the roof terrace?” “Are you lost?” Or other ways to try to interrogate us. I never during the first 2 days was asked how I was doing, how I could be helped or how my stay was going, Only 1 kind door man who had brought our items up at least said hi. In fact on day 2 it was raining , I had forgotten my umbrella I asked another door man (an Indian or Pakistani gentleman I believe) if I could have an umbrella, Do you know what he reply was? He told me “ you can go get it yourself ” and pointed inside . Ironically I Always tip for every service , I enjoy tipping, but during my stay I didn’t even have the chance to besides for my bags . Because we were too busy being interrogated or disrespected. ROOF TOP RESERVATION But the inappropriate behavior continued…. Ironically when we did finally want to go to drinks at the infamous “roof terrace” I approached the reception and I was rudely ignored and told to “ go over there with a lady who’s in separate room and talk to her about booking the terrace” The reception seemed to cast me aside because they assumed I wasn’t staying at their hotel, they thought since I came in directly from outside the hotel after a day outing, that I wasn’t a real client. The lady that does the bookings for the terrance was very rude to my husband she was an unprofessional unpolished kind of goth girl , barking that NO WE CANNOT PROMISE YOU A TABLE, and NO BOOKINGS ALLOWED! But once my husband explained to her firmly our room number and that we were staying at the hotel, her whole tune changed and magically there was a table for us for reservation. If the staff think for ANY reason you are Not staying at this hotel and dont meet their stereotype of elderly clients they are used to, FORGET IT. You will be treated very poorly if you look under the age of 30 forget it. Finally by the 3rd day I wasn’t prompted to the roof terrace or interrogated about if I was a client of the hotel. But by then it was too late. I was already feeling very unwelcome. DANGEROUS FOR LADIES AND CHILDREN- I want to add that hotel de Rome is NO PLACE FOR A LADY, as I will explain why. So we decided to cancel our plans to visit a museum and take the day to use the spa. I opened the door to the steam room and there are naked old men in there! The spa is a very small area and is overwhelmed with naked old men with their privates exposed!! And no one warned me, there was no sign on the door, no verbal communication of a co ed fully naked spa! So as soon as I realize that , we just walk out right away . this is an international hotel and I guarantee you if you had some rich clients from Middle East visiting you would literally move water just to accommodate their cultural beliefs if the profits suited your hotel. When I told the spa lady that I was very upset at the old naked men nudity I witnessed by opening the door, she told me that it was “just too bad and if I don’t like it we can leave” She could see very clearly I was very shaken to witness men that were not my husband fully nude. I dont care if it is normal in your country, this is an international hotel. I am surprised she didn’t take that moment to integrate me again regarding what room number I was. So no spa for me, were it was for us one of the main reasons to book your hotel and RELAX , with clearly u cannot do that when u have like 3 OLDER man there nude , probably waiting for a lady to enter the room as well . COMMENTS We decided to go for lunch as far away from hotel de Rome as possible at aldon Kempinski and ironically we were treated like royalty, so I know for a fact our mistreatment is very specific to hotel de Rome.. and that being said I have never had an issue in all of my travels (every month I vacation to a new 5 star destination usually a Forbes 5 star) and I have NEVER had an issue such as hotel de Rome. I want to mention that my husband and I despite being younger Than the typical clientele of this hotel, we are very well dressed , husband was wearing beautiful Hugo boss, eden park ect. I feel we were discriminated because of our age. We have stayed this year at ashford castle ( a true 5 star in ireland) we stayed at the sister property of hotel de Rome in Scotland the the balmoral, and ironically we stayed at hotel luc in Berlin (amazing) just 3 days before to go to this hotel de Rome But regardless, what if we weren’t well dressed? Or what if indeed we were just coming to dine at the hotel and were not staying there? Does that justify treating other people like trash? I can’t just imagine …. I want to end this review with something positive I want to mention the house keeping staff is amazing, they go above and beyond, rocco hotels always have the best housekeeping it seems and Rome was no exception. Also 1 gentleman in the spa (from cypress) was the only interaction I had that wasn’t an interrogation he took the time to explain to me the history of the hotel. Sadly by the time I talked to him it was too late in our trip to book my spa appointment that I had wanted on day 1 and day 2 plus I wouldn’t want to see naked old men . Also the gentleman who brought our bags up ( shaven head German guy) and 1 other door man with black curly hair was literally the only other polite person we interacted with. p.s By contrast we had an amazing experience literally 2 streets away at the Hotel Luc, you can read more about that from my profile I posted a review. Please do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but hotel de Rome!…
