Well located close to the U station but very short of staff who is stressed out and not friendly. Long wait to get food and drinks - food is very average. Not very pleasant. Obviously a hotel management issue.

A very pleasant four days in Berlin in December. A fascinating place full of history and great architecture. Catalonia Berlin Mitte was perfect for us. We were able to walk and use the very efficient public transport with great ease. The hotel is modern and our room was spacious. Very pleasant.

The Hotel is well appointed and the room was fine,, however the bed was made up of 2 single beds which divided by magic each night. The room wasn't cleaned properly on 2 nights and the heating system couldn't rewarm the room after we had let a little cold Berlin fresh air get in. On the plus side.. the breakfast...

Location central, highly recommend Gustave's cafe for breakfast. Friendly service, lovely room and great lounge and bar. Architecture very cool- lots of exposed concrete. Felt like we found a gem! Try the Gin and Tonics for a night cap- served the Spanish way!

We have very mixed feelings about this hotel.Whilst we booked here specifically for it's excellent location to the Christmas markets and cannot fault the amenities, the standard room did not have tea/coffee facililities. Upon request the hotel did provide a kettle but we had to then had to ask for cups, milk etc the next day as these were not...

Good hotel, very cool, good location! Shame about the lack of staff and the speed... check in was slow, check out was very slow. I was checked into an already occupied room! The bar was also often un manned!

Trendy East Berlin hotel. Shared a spacious room which had great bathroom amenities. The room was quiet room if a little warm. The hotel has a handy little bar with comfy sofas and a delicious value for money breakfast. Staff very helpful and great restaurants close by.

This is a very tasteful hotel with an interesting world war 2 history. They have friendly and obliging staff, clean rooms and it is central in location. The hop on hop off bus is nearby in Alexanderplatz which makes touring easy. Highly recommended.

The staff seem to have forgotten they work in a hotel and instead try to be comedians, the furniture seemed to be from Ikea, breakfast was very limited and there was no 24 hour room service. All that being said it was a nice stay and everything seemed to work.

Very nice hotel not far away (walking distance) from Alexander Platz (1,3 km). The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. Just in frying of the hotel there is the underground station. Good start point to visit Berlin.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Catalonia Berlin Mitte hotel owes its name to its central location in the city. Opened in February 2014 and located in a building dating from 1911 with an austere facade, typical garage entry leading into a quiet courtyard, it had once housed several offices, jewlery store and even STASI (berlins eastern police during the berlin wall period) members. It is just 10-15 minutes' walk from Museum Island and 15-20 minutes' walk to Alexanderplatz and historical Nikoleiviertel; Berlin's entertainment area full of typical restaurants. The hotel is located just in front of the Heinrich Heine Metro Station (U8, two stops to Alexanderplatz) and close to the upcoming hipster district of Kreuzberg. It is also close to the Jannowitzbrucke railway station to (S5, U8), with direct connection to the Messe Berlin/ICC (fairgrounds) and to the BCC - Berlin Congress Center at Alexanderplatz it takes only 1,2 km or 1 S-Bahn stop. Decorated by Barcelona based Interiorists "Denis von Arend" walls, ceilings and other building elements take an unusual prominence exposing the historical memory of the building that will captivate the customer. The hotel has a unique lifestyle charm recreating the essence of Berlin with its industrial style, raw walls and graffitis in each floor created by well known berliner artists. All this is backed by an excellent service, functionality and comfort guaranteed by the Catalonia H&R Stamp, that will provide our Guests an unforgettable experience. The hotel has 131 spacious and bright rooms (42 of them superior rooms with extra amenities) with Smart flat screen TV's, minibar and safe. It also has two meeting rooms, an upgrade breakfast buffet, lobby with internet corner and working tables, cocktail bar, the Kunstwerk Restaurant in the evenings, exterior terrace at the courtyard and free Wi-Fi throughout the whole hotel. ... more   less
