Next door to the ICE Rail Station. Clean, comfortable and convenient. Good for a short stay. Staff were helpful. Rooms were still noisy despite the insulation. Modern facilities. Ideal for a 1 to 2 day stop.

The InterCityHotel Kassel is an excellent, convenient choice for travelers doing business in the Kassel area. I've stayed here probably about four times in the past two years, as recently as February 2012.

For those of you not familiar with the InterCityHotel chain, they seem to specialize in simple business-oriented hotels, frequently near major train stations, that are focused on providing a really good value. This hotel is no exception.

Service (5 stars):

Check-in is usually easy. The staff are friendly and are polyglots (English included). Business essentials such as free wi-fi are included, as well as a free ticket to use Kassel's public tram system. Considering what you usually pay to stay here, these niceties are above and beyond expectations.

Value (4 stars):

Typical overnight stays are 70-80 Euro, but, like other InterCityHotels, are subject to occasional, unexpected, and drastic increases in prices. As long as the rate is below 100 Euro, this hotel is a very good value.

Sleep Quality (4 stars):

Beds are typical for the InterCityHotel chains and other hotels in Germany for that matter: you get a bed with a firm mattress, a blanket, and a pillow. Don't expect to feel like you're sleeping on a cloud, but it really shouldn't be much of a problem for most unless you really, really don't like firm mattresses. The good news is that this hotel seems to be a little less noisy than, say, the Frankfurt InterCityHotel, so a good-night's sleep can be had here.

Cleanliness (4 stars):

I don't recall noticing anything dirty!

Location (5 stars):

The location is perfect for those arriving in Kassel on the long-distance InterCity or ICE trains (from Frankfurt Airport, for example) as the hotel is immediately next door to the "Kassel-Wilhelmshoehe" station. The weird thing about this station is that, yes, it is the long distance station for Kassel, but it is not the "Hauptbahnhof" and not in downtown Kassel. No worries, though. If you want to go downtown and explore, the main public tram station is right outside of the hotel, too, which will take you just about anywhere in Kassel, and its use is free with the hotel stay.

Rooms (4 stars):

Rooms are relatively simple and but are a little bigger than some of the rooms in the other InterCityHotels (e.g. Frankfurt). For a single room, you get a bed, TV, fridge & minibar, and bathroom.

Other information/tips for the reader:

- I've never utilized the bar or the restaurant here. I imagine it's fine, but I can't speak from experience.

- I cannot emphasize enough how fantastic the free public transportation ticket is. However, it took probably two or three uses of the tram system to figure it out. On more than one occasion I've taken the wrong tram. The good news is, since it's free, you can just hop on the next tram going back to where you came if you get lost. If you're looking to go somewhere specific on the tram, ask the hotel staff, they have helped me on more than one occasion.

- If you like walking and really don't mind vigorous or lengthy walks, you can actually walk downtown (to the east), although it's probably about 3 kilometers (2 miles) and would take at least 30 minutes. I've had to do that walk on at least one occasion when I was out too late downtown after the trams stopped and needed to get back to the hotel!

- Still on the topic of walking, you can walk the opposite direction (west) for about the same distance where there is a castle, a series of cascading fountains and waterfalls, and "Herkules" statue at the top of the hill. It starts going up (in elevation) pretty fast and I'd suspect it's several hundred feet up above the surrounding area. There are excellent views from the top!

- An excellent (German) restaurant that I've frequented in the area is about a 1 kilometer (a little over a half-mile) walk to the west, called Gutshof. You can also take tram #1 to the west from the station. They have an English menu but to be honest, if you're familiar with German food, it might be easier to understand the German menu!

- If you're not feeling too adventurous with your German but would like to go out to a pub with people who speak English as their first language (or want to speak English), go to The Shamrock Irish Pub. It's pretty close to downtown so I suggest taking the tram. You can take the #4, #7, or #8 tram to the Karthaeuserstrasse stop and it's just a block to the north on Buergermeister-Brunner Strasse. Note, they don't serve their own food but they have an arrangement with a nearby pizza place and you can get pizza delivered to you while you're sitting at the bar!

I'm sure I'll end up staying here again very soon!

The location is perfect near the station. We had a business room in the back so no noise from the tram and trains.
I found the room way too hot. There is no airco. The night was cool so we opened the window all night but if its outside 20 c there is no way to cool the room. I think it was 28 c or so in the bedroom.
The tv, shower, minibar, beds were good.
Price could be a bit less. I dont know why the selected date was much more expensive as all other days i see the price was much lower.
But the rate was included free transport for 2 days so it saved us a bit money.
For the rest i m satisfied. Would recommend the hotel.

The worst service i’ve ever got in a hotel. Im here to compete for an MMA fight. And had to drop down a lot of weight. I’d lost my phone and didn’t feel well. So i go to the desk and no one of the personal at the desk could speak english to me. They only laughed with eachother like it was some kind of joke. Eventually there was finally someone who could speak english. And i asked if it was possible to make a phonecall. When i tried to call my phone i didn’t get a response because my phone died. I asked if it was possible to use their internet for a few minutes to reach someone out on Facebook. That i didn’t have a phone and in case of immergency that i couldn’t reach anyone. But de woman behind de desk said no you can’t. Go to the city center for internet cafe, you can pay for your internet. Never go to this hotel.

I book a quite room, and I stay at 11 am for check-in. There are no ready rooms becouse is too early!!! No problem! I said. I fullfill the check-in information and leave the suitcase. I hold several meetings and when I come back at 7pm, the hotel told me that the best room is for me. Remember 113. Just over the tram station. At 5 o'clock I wake up terrified if a tram had entered my room.

I found the room facing away from the train station that I requested and paid 10€ extra for to be quiet and well equipped with everything I needed for a one-night-one day stay. The big BUT being the difficulty I had trying to get into the free wifi. In fact, I never was able to get in and used my own mobile connection. For a business hotel a no go! Otherwise everything from cleanliness to breakfast to a safe large enough for my laptop was fine.

This hotel is next to the Wilhelmshohe Railways Station in Kassel. Kassel is an intercity station and in the heart of Germany. The hotel is soundproofed. You don't hear any noise from the railways or the road nearby. The next advantage of the hotel is the free dayticket for public transport in Kassel. This is a real incentive.

I chose this hotel because it is basically in the same building as the Wilhelmshohe train station where I had to catch a train to Frankfurt at six in the morning. The stuff was extremely polite even at a quarter to six when I checked out. The room was small but modern. A nice surprise was a free ticket for all trams and buses of Kassel. I only decided to have a look at the city centre because they gave me that ticket and it was worth it.

Reasonably priced, no frills Hotel offering small, and quiet rooms facing the back. It was not very clean though. Hairs in the shower and mold growing in some areas on the grout/caulk. Got in late and parked car right next to front door. Ok overall for the budget traveler but will not return.

Small but clean room, old but clean bathroom, convenient location next to the train station (but if you're arriving by train, make sure it's to this station - Kassel has two). Helpful front desk staff.

It annoys me when hotels want to charge guests for wifi, but otherwise I have no complaints.
