We stayed one night on our way home from France and had 2 double rooms booked. We found them to be spacious and clean - in fact they were really great.

The hotel was easy to find from the motorway.
The personnel was very kind and helpful. Checking in and out went smoothly.
The breakfast was fine and just what we needed to start the day.

Within walking distance (5 minutes), theres a steak/burger restaurant and an italian restaurant - we tried the latter of the two and it was quite good. Theres also a Burger King just across the street from the hotel.

All in all a good experience and we will not hesitate to book another night here. And we can strongly recommend it for others as well.

Great hotel, good service, perfect Autobahn location, clean, all positive. However, drop the bill on your creditcard, because this hotel refuses to release the reservation made on your credit card. They tell you they did and blame your bank, but they don't release your reservation leaving you with an amount less to spend on your credit card for which you paid in cash.

At booking we had asked for a quiet room. Instead we were allocated a room on the first floor on the road side. It's a noisy, busy road and on top of it at 7 am gardeners started working in the front. We did not sleep well nor enough. The bathroom is very basic, dated and the bath, to reach the shower, is very high to step into. The lobby is very shiny and that's about it. The hotel could do with a complete makeover. The breakfast is not all that exciting too. The so called "warm stuff" was lukewarm. The quality of the coffee is very average.
On the positive note: staff are very welcoming and friendly.

It appears that the Leonardo hotel chain is the German equivalent of our Premier Inns ie comfortable clean rooms, friendly staff and restaurant on site. Sited on the outskirts of town in a commercial area. Easy access from the autobahn. Adjacent main road so book a room at the rear if you are a light sleeper.

If France and Belgium are on the quarantine list and Germany not, Aachen is nearest place to Calais (4 Hours drive).

A very good hotel. Late check-in 01:30 but the reception was open and the lady was kind.

The room clean and the standard was high. Good beds. Coffee and tea and water cooker on the room.

We didn't eat the breakfast because to continued our drive to France early in the morning.

This is a very clean/neat hotel located just outside the 'Umweltzone'. For our stay of just 1 night it is a good solution to avoid the cost of a mandatory sticker on your car.
However, they charge €8 for the parking. The main reason why I just gave it 3*. So, maybe better to find a hotel within the Umweltzone with free parking ;)
The room is good, you can open a window, comfortable bed, very good buffet breakfast with plenty of choice, friendly staff.

I can fully empathise with the previous reviewer (FRC).

This hotel is only good for it's location close to the motorway. We have stayed there twice whilst driving from the Czech Republic to the UK.

The rooms have a rather tired feel to them, as does the whole hotel. At this level I don't expect perfection but, I also don't expect there to be poo stains still present in the toilet (yes there really was). There was also rather too many hairs on the sheet and on checking under the bed before we left in the morning I saw some old food that had not been cleaned.

The first time we stayed here the breakfast had disappointed so this time we opted to go without. On our first visit they mucked up our room reservation and this time they also didn't seem to understand that we had reserved a comfort room and only had smoking comfort rooms left. Clearly the reservation system does not work properly.

I should not have given this hotel the benefit of the doubt and revisited a second time but it is very convenient for the motorway and you can have two children in a room with you. Also our room on our first visit had not been as dirty as on our second.

Holiday Inn please take note. This Hotel needs to improve!

Subject: Holiday Inn Aachen
Location: Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

I don't know why but chain hotels do seem to belie their brand names. Quality Inns are resolutely down market, whilst I have never had the remotest desire to take a holiday in any Holiday Inn I have ever stayed in.
This one is only a few convenient minutes from the Brussels-Cologne autobahn, although the hotel looks like the 1970s offices of a regional insurance company set in a busy' if depressing, commercial district.

It started well with a charming receptionist who spoke flawless English. The room appeared to be pretty much the standard affair; one of those that has the TV on with a welcome to you by name showing on it. I grabbed the remote to close it down, but must have hit the wrong button because there then appeared a most inappropriate channel that you would not want to see in a family room. I thought you had to pay extra for this sort of thing, so beware, especially if you have children with you.

The bathroom: I have never been in a bathroom in a hotel at this
level with such a minimalist collection of freebies. Just one very small packet of soap. What I naively presumed was a complimentary bottle of water turned out to have a 3.5 euro label around its neck. I tried a bath but was put off by metal bits that kept falling of the taps/plug/shower attachments. The black mould in the grouting of the tiles did not endear me to the hotel's standards of cleanliness and efficiency.

And then the bed: OK but only one slim pillow with no additional ones to be found in any wardrobe or drawer. So a rolled up jacket was pressed into action.

Finally the breakfast. Ah, the breakfast. No staff to greet you, take your room number, or show you to a table and explain the offering, least of all to take any kind of order. So we took what seemed to be an empty table between one table of english business men who took four lengthy mobile phone calls during the time we were at our table, whilst on the other side
two germans spent the time conversing over their laptop ignoring their food and only occasionally sipping coffee.
No staff came anywhere near us, and so we set off for the buffet. The pale yellow solid lump was, I presume, meant to be scrambled egg though it tasted of no more than damp kitchen roll. The half cooked bacon had an unpleasant pearly colour and tasted of moistoned J cloths. Eventually we discovered
that the opalescent purple plastic jug already on the table was a thermos containing coffee. Tea, however, you made yourself from less than boiling water out of a samavar, into which you dunked your selection from the box of tea bags. From start to finish, over about 30 minutes, not a single member of the staff came anywhere near our table, though they could be seen in the distance occasionally flitting around to clear used tables.

Our prebooked and paid for room did not include breakfast, but when we checked out at the front desk the bill did not add a charge for the breakfast. It seemed to be rather pointless to draw their attention to the ommission and then refuse to pay - so we left. Surely the manager should look to his bonus or the franchisees to their contract.

Situated a bit out of the way near a freeway ramp and some car dealerships. A bit worn, but OK for the business traveller. Don't bother staying for anything other than a place to sleep - not special.
