The stay was nice, the staff were great and the hotel location and facilities are very good. I would suggest to improve the Covid-19 protocol. In my opinion it would be better to have more "hand disinfection" stations in front of the elevator, so we can disinfect our hands before enter it, also have a stations before enter the breakfast area and returning from the Garage.

We stayed here for one night. We chose the hotel based on the fact it had a decent car park. It turned out that the car park is a public one but it has a lift up to the hotel. The car park felt secure (it's huge) and we were charged €14 for one nights parking. I didn't see this charge mentioned when looking at the details of the hotel but could have missed it. Anyway you pay for the car park at the hotel reception.

The hotel is pretty functional. There is a big display fridge in the lobby and you are told that you can take 5 items for your room mini-bar. The is some beer, wine and soft drinks. The fridge in the room had a bottle of water in it but I couldn't fin a bottle opener.

The room was fine and the bed comfortable and it was ideal for 1 night. The shower was decent and there was a bath as well. The toilet had it's own room.
There was aircon and a TV. We overlooked an internal area (top of the carpark I think) so it was very quiet.

Breakfast was included and I thought it was really good. Buffet style it had a mix of hot and cold food.

I noticed a few dogs so the hotel is dog friendly and you could sit with them at breakfast.

We have switched our stays in Aachen to Novotel few years ago as although there is nothing impressive about Novotel - customer service was excellent. Although I was only Silver accor member they would unexpectedly upgrade us to suite, another time leave nice fruit basket as „thank you” for loyalty and were generally very welcoming.

Since covid started this property gives me worse experience each time. In Aug 20 there were cleaning issues. This time they failed to provide what you pay extra for in executive room - bathrobes (was only one, when I chased they brought another bathrobe but no sleepers), „free minibar” meant one evian water and you could request more from the bar except it was open only the night we arrived. We wanted to use our drink voucher on Sun - bar was shut again! Please tell people when bar is open when you give them vouchers. I complained about it to young male receptionist upon check out. He was really defenisive and gave us horrible check out experience. We eventually got 2 colas upon check out for no minibar and welcome drink experience???

I am gold member now: it has not even been mentioned by reception once nor did I have any on property benefits. I am done with this hotel: next time I will book into Mercure. I was happy to spend my money here for few years but not anymore. Customer service is unacceptable plus you pay extra for executive room and don’t get what you should on booking confirmation.

Corner toom was freezing! I don’t recommend staying in one of these during the winter months.

We stayed for one night whilst driving through Europe ( 2 adults + children)
The hotel is situated right in the centre, but very easy to find and with plently of parking right below the hotel ( note that parking for 1 day is €14, it's not included in the price)
The hotel itself is excellent, staff polite and helpful and the rooms were spotlessly clean. Beds were very comfy, although pillows were very small and felt cheap, luckily we always travel with our own pillows. The room itself was quite small, but comfortable enough for 1 night and the breakfast in the morning was the best we've had at any of our previous hotels.
The only thing I didn't like was location, we've never been to Aachen, so we were keen to venture out, as we stayed on Friday night
but when we went out to find somewhere to eat, the area didn't feel safe at all, even during daylight. In the end we just bought some food in local Rewe market and went straight back to the hotel. We liked the hotel itself, so if you are just passing through, it's a great place to stop for the night.

I had a good stay at the hotel. Everything is clean and in good order. They make a good effort with Covid safety. However, I was quite unimpressed when I asked for a printed receipt to use for my travel expenses and the reception staff refused and told me because it was booked through an online travel site, they would not help me with that. I should book with the hotel direct next time.
I appreciate that they might prefer direct bookings but that is just plainly unhelpful and bad service.

Response from Saskia Küppers, Gästeservice/Empfang at Novotel Aachen City
Responded 23 Oct 2020
Dear Thomas, Please excuse the unpleasant situation. We have not been able to issue you an invoice because the travel agency with which you booked with transfers the price for the stay minus commission to us. The price on the invoice would not have been the price you paid. We didn't want to make you feel like we were forcing you to make a direct booking, but the employee had to act like this in this case. Kind regards,

Very decent hotel. We traveled with our daughter (9 years). As requested during the booking, a bed was added in our room. The child bed was of very good quality, so that definitely a plus. The fitness room with a nice view is also a plus. As some reviews mention, there are sometimes hot drops falling in the steam bath, however they did disturb me. The staff was friendly and the breakfast offered a lot of choice. Overall a very decent businesslike hotel.

If you come by car, note that Aachen has a green zone (umweltzone), so you require a green sticker to drive in the city center. If you are fined because of a missing green sticker, it will cost you 80 euros (each time). Beause of this, we parked our car at ATAG Parkhaus Tivoli. Took the 51 bus from Sportpark Soers to Hanzemann Platz, nearby the hotel.

I stayed at the hotel for one night. The hotel is in a good location. The staff at the reception are very helpful. If you want to stay in that area, I recommend it to you...Ideal for those who come by car, there is a car garage just below the hotel...

Starting with the positive, the reception staff was welcoming and professional. The hotel itself, however, was disappointing. It’s located in a run down part of town which made my wife feel uncomfortable to walk alone in the evening. The room layout was strange: toilet and sink were in separate rooms and the sink faucet was just a pipe coming out of the wall. The shower pressure was almost zero and we also found the bed to be uncomfortable.

The hotel was also close to many restaurants and city locations. The rooms were clean and very nice. Staff was friendly and cared about our comfort. You have to pay for parking, and they do not give you a credit for the parking which makes the stay more expensive than just the room costs.

Booked this hotel specifically because they have an onsite bar and restaurant . When we arrived we were told that the restaurant and bar were shut, not because of Covid 19, but for economic reasons. If we had known we would have stayed elsewhere. Most of Aachen's bars/restaurants were open, with plenty of customers (all following the rules - face masks and social distancing) Very disappointing service!!

I always walk from the main station. Just cross the street in front of the station and follow Bahnhofstraße leading away from the station until you get to the main shopping and pedestrian zone. From there it is just round the corner. It's about 15 minutes to walk. Check google maps for details.
