This hotel is in an older building with all of the character of heritage facilities but with some of the space challenges. I had booked a single (which we don't really have in North America and I forgot what it could mean) and my room was so small it barely had space for me to put my suitcase on the floor between the bed and the desk). The room had big windows that open on to the courtyard which was very nice. One thing to keep in mind is that the hotel is located on a street with a tram line - I found the noise traveled through the hotel walls to my room which was located on the opposite side of the building. Only an issue if you sleep early in the evenings or during the day as the tram did not seem to run through the night.

The location is very good for the shopping district and less than 10 minutes' walk from the train station. Breakfast was basic continental (and if you came a little later in the morning they didn't seem to replenish things very quickly) but served in a lovely atrium room.

Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.

This hotel is acceptable for leisure travel because of its location in Bonn. It is two blocks from the main rail station and adjacent to the pedestrian old city center with shops and restaurants. The breakfast is good with hot items. The staff is courteous and friendly. It is not suitable for business travel with its dimly lite rooms, miniaturized desk and low desk stool. Wi-Fi however is free with a pass code from the front desk. The architect must have had an unusual fondness for creating hazardous steps. There is a dangerous step down upon entering the room in the brick building and a potentially hazardous stair design leading to the breakfast room. Also the brick building has no elevator and it is necessary to carry luggage up a narrow spiral stair case.

I was looking for a hotel in the centre of Bonn which was near the railway station (flying to/from Dusseldorf): Bonn Hbf is less than 10 minutes walk. The Domicil was in my price range.

I arrived about 10.30pm. Check-in was friendly and I was taken to room 4 which is in a block above the Ristorante Grappa in the courtyard. This may well be the most eccentric room in the hotel. About 2/3 of the room is occupied by the roomy en-suite. There is a small side table and minibar, two rather spartan seats, cable TV, and the ubiquitous trouser press. There are two wardrobes which are built into the en-suite unit.

The double bed is on a mezzanine reached by a ladder to the right of the en-suite. The ladder isn't vertical, but it was sufficiently so for me to decide that I'd descending it backwards. The ceiling beams above the mezzanine are low and I made contact on a couple of occasions. There's no a/c but there was a fan on the upper level, and the windows on the main level provided good ventilation during the day.

It was quiet - away from the trams in Thomas-Mann Strasse. I slept well and was undisturbed by other guests. I couldn't get a wi-fi signal, although T-mobile is supposed to be available.

I wouldn't care for this after a longhaul, but for a couple of evenings in Bonn, it was fine - not a room to forget!

Regrettably, my recent stay at the hotel fell far below expectations. Despite reaching out privately to the hotel with my concerns, I have received no response, prompting me to share my experience here.

The room assigned to me was situated in an isolated and neglected separate building, behind the main hotel. The space was marred by yellowed, stained carpets, scattered tools, and discarded mattresses on the stairs. Yet I still paid full price and was not made aware of any renovations upon booking.

Inside the room, the conditions were equally disappointing - dirty carpets, a kitchen area covered in stains, a collapsed camp bed, and an overall state of disrepair that necessitates a thorough cleaning and updates. Security was a concern too, with no lock at all on the back door and recurring issues with the front door lock. As a solo female traveler, being the only occupant in this separate, disused building was unsettling, especially when a staff member left their private contact number on my door and unexpectedly visited my room late at night offering to share a bottle of wine.

The same staff member, who was the only person at the front desk, had previously tried to text me by taking my mobile number from the hotel system, before realising it actually belonged to a colleague who had booked the room for me. He then asked for my number to which I politely mentioned I was in a relationship.
But despite all this he still then left his number under my door whilst I was out and then came to my room at around 10pm to offer the wine, whilst I was in bed.

While I'm reluctant to create any trouble, I believe it's crucial for the staff to understand that these circumstances are far from professional and can be deeply unsettling for solo travelers. It's essential to address these concerns to ensure a safer and more welcoming environment for all guests. My colleague who booked the hotel has sent TWO emails in regards to this situation and I was hoping we would have had a response by now, but these have been ignored, so I have been left with no choice, as I would hate for this to happen to another woman.

It was the smallest room we've seen. The smallest bed, the smallest bathroom, the smallest all.
The breakfast was very poor and the restaurant room to small for all the guests.
Internet was very slow too.
Avoid rooms 17, 27 and 37.
The staff is nice.

On being warned that the front rooms were noisy I requested a quiet room at check-in. their response was (and I quote literally) "No". Well that was true. Room 16 is tiny, did not have air-con so was too hot and was on the front with Trams and buses and cars constantly travelling past and stopping/starting at the lights 25m away. The noise - even with the windows closed made sleep impossible until the traffic stopped at 1.00am. Then drunks outside starting arguing and when this stopped the bloke in the room next door was snoring - walls paper thin. Also woken up by slamming doors in the corridor outside. Lighting in the room was limited (nothing by the narrow bed). At 5.00am the Trams started again. I gave up and went to work........tired and very grumpy.

This small hotel is located in a central part of Bonn, just minutes away from the central station and the U-Bahn. It is a quiet hotel with a courtyard at the back. However, if you stay on a Saturday night be prepared for noise into the early hours from the nightclub/bar that is located nearby. However, on the other nights I was there it seemed quiet enought. My room had character. The beds were comfortable and I liked the curved wall as well as the balcony looking over the courtyard. The decor is very dated. A very 1980s feel! although the room didn't look 'tired'. The hotel didn't feel like a four star hotel to me. The breakfast was Ok, but nothing special - cheap yoghurt, and orange juice. The door to the jacuzzi/sauna was locked when I tried to use it. This is a good 3 star hotel at a 4 star price.

RECOMMENDED: Hotel is located a short 5 minute walk from main train station and very near the main shopping plaza. A small hotel with 44 rooms of which 1/2 face a small street with both streetcar and bus traffic with some noise until the last runs ~ 11 pm and then very quiet. This 1983 property is in good condition, rooms vary in size due to variations in building. Bedding comfortable and rooms nicely appointed with many lamps (though all low wattage meaning you need to have them all on). Bathroom was in good order, tiled and solid surface countertops, lighting was good. Hotel staff throughout was pleasant. Nice breakfast buffett and hotel related Italian restaurant is next door. Smallish bar in front. Parking available but limited. This was a winter visit and the heating comes from under the floor and is pleasant, I didn't see A/C though and it may be warm in the summer. Warm feeling, personal service and acceptable appointed rooms makes this a recommended hotel slightly above expectations for a Best Western brand.

Okie, the good stuff first. And the reason why I still gave a star to this.

The hotel is just a minute from the station and is just 5 minutes away from the bustling city. So it’s really convenient to get food, to get your grocery etc and literally convenient to get to anywhere from the Hotel.

We were lucky to have the inside facing room so the traffic outside wasn’t that bad. But we had the restaurant down below us. Lucky for us, by around 10pm the customers all left.

The staff working here were all super nice, warm and friendly. They have empathy and is always more than happy to help you. And honestly, I feel that the staff are not to blame but just how this Hotel Owner or Management is.

So here comes to reason where all the other star of this review gets dimmed.

This place is messed up and they messed up big time. I’m wouldn’t really call this place a Hotel.

If you are reading this before you book, perhaps you should reconsider. I’m not writing this in a fit of anger. I am writing this 2 days after my horrific incident. I am writing this after I leave.

We arrived early. Of course, like any other Hotels, the room is not ready. It’s fine, really. I don’t want them to rush and the cleanliness of the room is compromised.

We went out and came back to this lobby with some packed lunched while waiting at the lobby.(See photo of the lobby).

Right until this point, all is good. Then! When I wanted to throw my trash, the bin at the lobby was already full and had flies. So ya, immediately I was alert about the cleanliness of the place.

Then shortly after, the room was ready! The lady at the reception wasn’t familiar with the system (seems new) or system changed. But she was nice and also kind to help bring our luggage up the stairs.

When we reach the room, to my horror, it almost felt like I was living in a ship? It was cramp, small and the furniture was everywhere.

The plugs weren’t working and we had limited points to charge our phones. The tv is not working. The fridge wasn’t on and we had to share the socket among the already insufficient sockets to on the fridge.

We wanted to forfeit this booking and book another but we thought since we’ll be out and just sleeping here, let’s just bare with it for 3 nights.

So all went well. Housekeeping came to replace the towels, made the beds etc. Then.. 2nd night was what really got me appalled.

We met some friends and came back around 10:30pm. To our horror, the keys didn’t work. So of course, you go the the reception but.. Nobody was at the reception when we needed help. The main door to the lobby was locked and someone had to opened it for us from the inside. But he told us that he don’t work here! And we should have a physical key (Which we dont) to unlock the main door.

So anyway, we tried contacting number there on the reception but it was useless. Nobody is answering the phone.

Desperate moment, we went into the counter, looked for any possible keys that we could use. Tried by going back and forth the lobby and our room, and finally found one. Then it occur to us if this can be found so randomly and easily to access any doors, where is the safety? There’s no safe in the room and it’s so vulnerable.

So this is scary and we are really so horrified by the price we are paying. The room has no aircon, they only provide 1 small noisy desk fan.

So yes, if you are still not convinced, book but don’t get your hopes too high.
