The hotel is located about a 20 minute walk from the UN University campus. There is a tram stop about a minute away that will take you to the centre of town for 2 euros. Nearby are a number of restaurants, cafes and a large supermarket. The hotel itself is a number of buildings all about a minute or two walk from reception. To get into your building you need to punch in the code. There are actual keys to your room, something I haven't received in years since keycards tend to be ubiquitous. A good breakfast buffet is included featuring a variety of breads, cheeses, fruit and yoghurt as well as eggs and sausages. Coffee as well which makes for a typical German style breakfast. My room had two single rooms pushed together and a nice balcony (with table and chairs) overlooking a pretty garden. This is perfect for sitting out and reading in the morning if one wishes. The room itself is kept clean and is sufficiently roomy to be comfortable. The bathroom and shower are on the compact side. If you are looking for a modern, standard hotel this is not it. But you do get comfort, quiet at a reasonable price.

The Garni Jacobs is a family hotel in Bonn which will transport you to a country house of a German grandmother. The hotel has three or four separate small buildings with rooms, and I stayed for five days in the main building - the grandmother's farm house.

Everything around reminds you this old-fashioned country style. From the room to the main saloon, where the breakfast is served, the rustic furniture blends with the old china, silver tea spoons, dusty plastic flowers and stuffed birds.

Even the "grandmother" is there! A grumpy elderly lady, who insist on talking with you in German, even you giving clear signs that you do not understand a word. She is obvious the owner, but I suggest that you kindly avoid and ignore her.

In the other hand, a young guy with reasonable English, which looks to be his grandson, is very efficient, helpful and friendly.

The hotel is around 15 Euros far from the Bonn Central Station, by taxi. But a cheap and convenient tram is available from there almost to the doorstep.

The location is nice and silent but with plenty of small shops, pharmacies, cafés, restaurants and markets around. You can go by walk, in 20 minutes, from the hotel to the World Conference Center or the UN Campus.

The breakfast is a nice surprise! Again, is like to be in your grandmother's farm house. Undoubtedly one of the strongest point of the hotel.

The internet access was a little bit problematic. They have a bureaucratic system with logins and password that expires every four days. One for each.

They have a small fridge and hair dryer in the rooms, but no irons or safe box.

The weakest point for me was the cleaning lady. She acted like a lazy employee, leaving dirty dishes and glasses behind and full trash can. One day I arrived at my room, and the fridge was unplugged from the power outlet! She probably used the vacuum cleaner and forgot to plug back. However, the cleanness of the bathroom and the room itself was ok.

The bottom line is that the Garni Jacobs hotel is an excellent choice for small budgets on business with UN Campus or World Conference Center.

My partner and I were given a “modern” single room, even though we had booked a double room “because there was only one name on the booking”. After I inquired the friendly receptionist apologized profusely and wanted to make sure with Ms. Jacobs that they could give us a “modern” double room for our 3 night stay.

Ms. Jacobs asked me if I had used anything in the room to which I replied no. After changing to the new room Ms. Jacobs came banging on the door, and while storming in, scolded me for various minutes since I had sat on the bed in the previous room. Had Ms. Jacobs asked me if I had sat on the bed I would not have had a problem with helping her change the bedding. But scolding me was extremely unprofessional.

The breakfast is definitely worth every penny! Make sure you go early to enjoy the buffet to the fullest. It is an amazing breakfast with a whole array of breads, jams, fruits, cheeses, cold meats, cereals and English breakfast ingredients.

Another encounter with Ms. Jacobs was at the breakfast one morning. The gentleman working at the reception was also her helper in getting the breakfast ready. She was standing in the kitchen shouting at her helper to let the client stand at reception and wait to check out, but he needs to help her finish up with breakfast first. Everyone in the dining room had to listen to this shouting and unpleasantness.

The hotel is located in a great place, rooms are nice and spacious, breakfast is FANTASTIC, but with an extremely prominent and unpleasant owner. If I did not have any interaction with her it would have been a much more enjoyable stay.

What a terrible experience this was ! The room itself was ok, even though there was a sign in the kitchen area saying 'Do NOT use kitchen facilities'. Very mean spirited.
One of the problems with this establishment is that they allow gangs of builders to occupy their rooms. Yes, gangs of builders. This resulted in them sitting on their balcony directly above us drinking and shouting for most of the night. How the neighbourhood stand for this as they too must be able to hear this noise. When I asked them politely to be quite, one of them, and wait for it, actually spat over the side of the balcony at me!! We called the hotel 'emergency' number on the phone as there is no night reception, and there was no reply. Tried several times and no one answered. Oh what a suprise. When we approached the problem in the morning with the owner, we were greeted by the rudist, most obnixious, hardnosed women I think I have ever had the privilege to meet. Not interested, very dismissive and quite frankly did not care at all . This is not a true hotel. It is an apartment block without adequate guest services. Do not come here with a family as we did not feel safe.

I stayed at Hotel Garni Jacobs in January 2012 during my first trip to Germany/Bonn. I arrived there in the morning and was given my key. Being foreign, I did not speak any German, yet was given all the welcome information by the personnel in German. The elderly lady in charge seemed nice from far but turned out to be rather rude and offensive. I had an interview at the University of Bonn and I had to get there. I asked her and a young guy at the reception for directions to that specific Institute and she began to mumble and scream in German and her body language clearly showed signs of extreme annoyment, anger and intolerance. I had no idea what I had done or why she could be so upset and soon after, she walked out of the reception area. The young guy who could speak some basic English then asked me where I had to go and when he found out that I needed to get to an Institute for an academic interview, he was apologetic and explained to me that the previous area where that particular faculty's main building is located, is close to the 'street dash/Red light district' of Bonn. I was so surprised, embarrassed and offended that the old lady thought I was a wh0re! An exotic dark-skin prostitute coming to stay in her hotel! That was such a shock and my first welcome and interaction with Germans! The hotel itself was ok, nothing fancy and if I had other options at the time, I would have booked something else. I enjoyed the breakfast there and it was located in a nice area. However, I have to say that not all Germans are like that - I now live in Bonn and have met some really nice people. This was just a really shocking and bad experience, which proved the narrow-mindedness of certain people in this country!

I spent a couple of nights here while attending a business meeting in Bonn.

The hotel is a bit far from the city center, but nonetheless easily reachable. The guy at the reception, who could speak a decent English, was quick and efficient (my check-in must have took less than a minute, while at check-out time in less 5 minutes I had my invoice in hand and a taxi waiting for me outside the main entrance). I didn't like the rooms too much. Very strange (and in my opinion unpleasant) furniture style, small beds and really terrible pillows. On the first night the room temperature was so high that I woke up several times. The second night passed smoothly instead. The breakfast was good.

I had my room for 75 eur per night (including breakfast), which I think it's an appropriate price everything considered.

This hotel has a really warm and traditional feel. I don't speak German but the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful throughout - from when I arrived after the official check-in time to when I was late for breakfast and they prepared me a cooked breakfast. The breakfast selection itself is incredible for such a small hotel and for such a low price - there are a range of juices, cereals, cooked items and a large table full of different continental breakfast items, like smoked salmon and tomato and mozarella salad. It is literally a minute's walk from the nearest tram stop, and there are regular direct trams from here to the centre of Bonn (journey time is perhaps 10 minutes, no more). My single room was fairly small but very cosy, very clean, and with lots of nice touches. There is free internet access and a desk so suitable for those travelling for business. I certainly didn't expect such a good hotel for such a low price. The only negative comment I can think of is that the rooms are very hot, but there are large windows that can be opened for fresh air.

It started this affect since there was no parking space available.
The rooms have been furnished in the style of the 50s

I was woked up by the ventilation of the neighbour bath room at
6:30 AM

And finally the high heels of the women on the higher floor did
the rest

So you better spend 10 Euro more and will go to a real hotel

Very happy about the place. Neat, clean and quiet. Right next to the tram and you can go to the city center in 15 min. Close to bakeries, supermarkets, coffee shop, kiosk, bookstore, etc. All within walking distance. Breakfast is really good. The people who run the hotel are so nice; they make you feel at home. The only flow was that there was no elevator and I had to carry my luggage upstairs. Other than that everything was great!

I stayed in this hotel last week end, we were a group of 30 people, and I must say that the rooms were really fantastic! Large and clean, also the bathroom. For breakfast we could choose between continental and international breakfast. The hotel is a bit far from the centre, but for this reason it is very peaceful.
