We needed somewhere to stopover in our motorhome on the way to Cornwall and we landed on the Thelbridge Cross Inn.

Louise and her team could not be more friendly, welcoming and accommodating, they genuinely care.

£11 a night for water with electric hookup plus you get the option to add breakfast for £12.95! And what a breakfast it is with a plate full of local produce, you won’t need to eat for the rest of the day!

Very dog friendly, treats available for well behaved ones as well! They can dine with you in all areas of the pub with the except of the dining room being dog free.

If you get bored of the stunning views across the countryside then there are pool tables, table tennis and a juke box.

The food is second to none and super tasty plus reasonably priced.

They also have bedrooms above the pub available to book.

If your are not staying for a stopover, it would be a great location for countryside walking summer or winter.

Hopefully we can get to go back soon.

Absolutely worked for us. Located in the North Devon countryside. Firstly loads of parking space. Good room ground floor. We stayed three nights.
We used the Pub Garden plenty of tables with umbrellas opens at five. Friendly bar staff ( Michael)
Ate evening meal all three nights. Order’s taken mostly by Alex (friendly professional). All meals superbly presented and tasting equally excellent. (starters mains desserts) all readily available. Able to sit in bar area or restaurant to eat with all members of staff considerate and professional all meals/evening’s throughly enjoyed.
Shall look to stay again.

I visited here with seven friends. One of us had been here before and suggested we all stay over so we could have a meal and enjoy the facilities. So we did.

The pub is in the middle of the beautiful North Devon countryside, not far from both Exeter and the beaches and resorts of the north coast. First impressions were good- a clean, rustic country inn, with friendly staff and a god range of drinks. We had a look around and discovered that the place is huge! Two bars, a separate restaurant, outside gardens, and even a large function room with bar and poll table.

We had a few beers and played pool and table tennis, before visiting the restaurant. The menu is fairly extensive and to my eye caters for most tastes, and the food was great as was the waiting staff.

The pub has 8 rooms- 7 doubles and a large suite- all of which are en suite. Mine was small and a little dated, but spotless and had all the facilities one would need for a short stay.

Breakfast the next day was a classic full English. Faultless.

The pub has only been in the current owner’s hands for a couple of years, and they are gradually upgrading. COVID has clearly taken its toll and it was very quiet wh3n we visited (Sept 2022), but with the friendly service, great food and extensive facilities, this pub deserves to be packed out.

Would make a great base to explore N Devon, a short break, or just or a cosy venue for a lovely Sunday roast. Best of luck to the owners.

I hate writing a bad review so I will start with the positives.. The room was clean and the food was very nice. Having said that, neither the room or the food looked like the photos on the website. We discovered on arrival that they were not doing breakfasts due to staff shortages (never known a hotel not to do breakfast..).The room was supposed to be a double room but in reality it was a single with a double bed in it (nothing like the pictures). There was only one chair for a double room (not really room for a second chair) and the ensuite was very small. We were only staying for 2 nights so we're happy to make the most of it.. That was until the fire alarm went off.. On hearing this, we started to vacate the room when it stopped. On checking in the bar, we were told it was a power surge that had tripped the alarm. We returned to our room and went to bed only to be woken up by the fire alarm. We were just drifting back off to sleep when the alarm went off for a third time. We had had enough, so packed up and came home. The owner would not give a full refund statting "the alarms were not their fault and we have to pay someone to clean the room.

We live locally but had never tried the Thelbridge Cross Inn as it always looked tired and in need of love. We pass by many times in a week and decided to give it a go for dinner one evening in August. We are a family of 4 (2 children aged 7 and 10) and sat outside. The staff were very helpful, friendly and fun. My gluten free requirements were accommodated and I enjoyed a pub meal of steak. Steak was cooked beautifully. All our food was enjoyable and it was nice to sit outside watching the familiar swallows darting around, as the tractors busied themselves back and forth. (This is a rural, farming area so expect farm machinery!) We were the only ones sat in the garden so the children ran around after eating and enjoyed some freedom in the little front garden area.
I never realised all these years, that the pub had such a beautiful view out the back. It is such a shame that the garden is not located along the back of the pub and car park because it would be a fabulous place to sit and enjoy a drink or meal. I hope that one day the new owners might consider relocating the garden to make the most of the views. I’d imagine you would be hard pressed to get a table outside if they did this! For sure the pub would become known for its outstanding views. The owners of the Thelbridge have done a great job in such a short space of time- well done! As we live nearby we shall keep stopping in and supporting them.

We stayed at the Inn with our friends, there was 4 adults, 1 child, and the dog.
The room had very comfy beds with a massive t.v. It had a kitchen with everything we needed a beer fridge kettle microwave, hot choc tea coffee, different teas with milk and packets of biscuits. The bathroom had a massive bath and a shower. Very nice. The restaurant served lovely food and theres a games room. Staff very friendly. We will definetly come back.

Too be honest my husband said it was the worst Sunday dinner he has ever had, soggy Yorkshire puds, and soggy roast spuds, veg all chucked together in one bowl. Meat portions tiny . We complained and the Manager should have come to speak to us but didn’t. We only had 1 drink as no one came n asked if we wanted another, no cutlery before our meal, only after our food arrived. And the place was empty so no excuse. What’s going on? First 2 times we ate there was amazing, last 2times bloody awful. We won’t be going back.

My boyfriend and I have visited here a couple times in the last few months and both times have received outstanding food and kind and polite service. The Thelbridge inn has a unique and peaceful ambiance and expresses vintage character. A truly wonderful pub hidden away in the stunning countryside. Very much anticipating my next visit.

Had a great few days here, service has been excellent the staff have been really accommodating and have helped no end. The Inn is really coming together now and won’t be long till fully renovated. Our room has been spotless really well cleaned. The food here is amazing really pleased as wine I read earlier reviews was a bit sceptical. Mark and Louise have done a fantastic job and can’t wait to come back next year to see what’s changed! Thank you and all your staff for a great stay

Fantastic overnight stay with friendly and attentive staff. The new owners are great hosts and have done a huge amount to upgrade the place since they took over. We had a lovely evening meal and the bedroom was well appointed, clean and comfortable. A glance at the map suggests being on a crossroads (it is an ancient coaching inn after all) it might be a bit noisy but the road is very quiet and with the double glazing we didn’t hear a sound all the time we were there. The Dukes sports bar is an added bonus for the more energetic guest. We’ll be back!
