Located in the heart of the old town of Trier the Romantik Hotel “zur Glocke” invites you to spend the night in a unique historical ambience. “The Glocke” is an institution in Trier. Beside a hotel it is the oldest pub in town and has been in the gastronomical business since 1803. However, the history of the building at Glockenstraße 12 can be traced back much longer. The listed front house was built in 1567 on walls dating from the 12th century. The historical cellar vault dates back to the fortification of the Cathedral in the 11th century. From 2012 to 2016, the Glocke was laboriously renovated. In addition, the hotel business, which was discontinued in the 1990s, was resumed. The guests can now expect lovingly and individually decorated rooms over four floor levels. Besides spacious double rooms, the owner-managed hotel offers suites and junior suites. Some of the rooms have a beautiful view of the Cathedral of Trier.

We stayed for 2 nights in Hotel Zur Glocke which is wonderful. We had a room overlooking the cathedral and it was very quiet. The location of the hotel is perfect, right next to the main square in Trier. Breakfast was excellent although we were surprised to see a buffet during Corona times. But everybody was very careful, staff were wearing masks and guests behaved as well. The staff is very friendly and service oriented. Altogether, this was a very pleasant stay.

We stayed there with our family as we explored Trier and the Mosel Valley. The hotel is in a great location, right in the town center. the rooms are great, large and very tastefully decorated in muted tones. Everything is very welcoming and calming. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful, escorted us to our rooms and offered not only a glass of champagne at check in, but also a jar of jam as a parting gift! we chose to eat at the attached restaurant and had a delicious german meal! we can definitely recommend staying there and will hopefully return soon again!

This boutique hotel is very conveniently located in the pedestrianized area, just off the Hauptmarkt in the heart of Trier and a short distance from the Porta Nigra. Taxis drop you 100 yards from the hotel which is not a problem.

The rooms are charming, the staff are very friendly, helpful and all speak English. A continental buffet breakfast is served from 8 to 10:30 am with fresh croissants and eggs to order - it was a perfect start to our mornings.

The restaurant in the cellar which dates to the 1200’s is a must see, with its vaulted roofs and ancient stonework, even if you don’t eat there. We ate there and the food was good, with ample portions of veal schnitzel with chanterelle mushrooms which were then in season. Horse lovers be aware that horse meat features on the menu.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Romantik Hotel zur Glocke and would highly recommend it.

The location of the hotel right in the middle of the old town can't be beaten. Ideal if you want to visit Trier. But the trainstation is also not far - 800 meters - if you want to visit other towns/sights like Luxembourg or Schloss Eltz.
I had a comfortable room with a sitting corner and desk. And a good working airco, very useful in the summer!
Very friendly staff. Nice touches like a welcome drink, fruit in your room and a jam jar as parting gift, add to the warm ambiance of this hotel.

We had suite 101 which overlooked the pedestrian street in front of the hotel. Property has been immaculately renovated, it is historic and modern at the same time. Bedroom and seating area were both spacious and very nicely appointed with elegant furniture, bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was large with modern high quality fixtures. Was beyond expectations for a historic property in a city center location. Staff were very friendly, breakfast was excellent, and street noise was minimal due to modern windows that fit perfectly with the hotel character. After this stay I am looking forward to staying at other Romantik Hotel properties. Bravo!

My wife and I stayed one night while passing through Trier. Everything is walking distance from the hotel and the city has a fabulous history that's worth discovering. We were very pleased with our room, which although compact had everything you need and the airco was good. The luxurious rain-shower in the bathroom was a real treat. Breakfast was also up to German standards (good strong coffee!). Only drawback was that our particular room couldn't be reached by lift (other rooms can). On the other hand, the lady at reception carried one of our bags up herself, which was nice of her. In addition, when we discovered upon our return home that we had left a perfume bottle in our room, the hotel was kind enough to send the expensive item to us by post. What a service!

Very cozy hotel with really super friendly staff . Room is small but very clean and bed is very comfortable. Heating was set too hight and unfortunately, opening the windows was not an option as it was really loud from the street - not the hotel’s fault though ! Breakfast buffet is very fresh and yummy - and take the chance and have a look at the cellar , built from ancient stones !

After looking at the pictures and reviews of this hotel, I felt confident about my stay in Trier.
This was my first experience of a Romantik Hotel, although I've always wanted to try one. We arrived late, around 8pm, and entered the hotel and find that there was no lobby, just a counter which was also the cashier for the restaurant. Checking in was quite straightforward, they didn't even ask for ID or passports. We booked a junior suite, which was very clean and had a spacious bathroom. However, there is no kettle or coffee maker in the room, let alone a mini bar. I found that the firm pillows I had specifically requested when I booked had not been prepared in advance, so I asked a member of staff if they could provide them. He replied that he would remind his colleague. By the time we checked out the next day, there had been no reply and, of course, no pillow I had asked for.

We had a lovely one night stay. We were fortunate to snag a parking space within a block of the hotel so didn't have to drag our bags too far on the cobble stones. We made a reservation for dinner at the hotel when we checked in. The front desk isn't staffed all the time and when we arrived for dinner our reservation had been mistakenly given away. It took a while to find someone from the waitstaff that could help with the mistake but they made it right in the end.

A wonderful hotel, so beautifully and stylishly decorated, very pleasant staff, excellent location, great restaurant, great breakfast with fresh seasonal fruit, egg dishes to your request - really, what's not to like? Very good value for money, too. There are lots of nice little touches, from the radio and fresh flower in the bathroom (great shower!) to the fresh fruit and chocolate in your room, the umbrella at your service, the windows that can open and so on. Small details, but they make for a much nicer stay. Trying to be critical, the only comment I have is that I would have liked a much harder pillow; a choice between (very) soft and hard would be nice. But really, all in all a favourite hotel that I would like to come back to regularly. This hotel shows consistently that a hotel stay can be a true pleasure.

There's no parking on the premise, but..... There's a small parking lot really close to the hotel (2-3 minute walk) where you can park your car for a maximum of 2-3 hours. This is located at the Rindertanzstraße. It's ideal for checking into the hotel and dropping off luggage. The hotel staff helped us find a bigger parking with unlimited parking time, and we were sent to 'Parkhaus Mercure Hotel Porta Nigra', which is a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

Can you serve breakfast in room and what does it include?
Answer from Christiane Theisen
Dear guest, I am sorry that I did not see your request earlier. Breakfast is always include in the price for the room. Generally we do not serve breakfast in the room, but if you come down and chosse something from the buffet you can take it upstairs with you. I haope this answers your question, even if it took a long time. Best regards Christiane Theisen, manager
