Hotel was very nice. I could store my stuff before checkin and after checkout. My room was in the 5th stock under the roof with view on the dom.
The minor thing was that it was very hot in the room and no curtains to dark the room so in early morning it was early light.
The good thing was the rooms were big, very good location 10 min. Walking from the trainstation. Near porta nigra. I didnt took any breakfast or dinner. I enjoyed my stay.

with Porta Nigra right next door. Nice clean room with spacey bathroom with a window. The beds were a bit on the hard side. Very nice breakfast buffé and generally good service with one exception at front desk. This woman should apply for another job where she wouldn't be bothered by questions and quests for information by guests. We have, sadly, had the same experience on two different occations this year with this memeber of staf. When asked about where the rental car could be picked up she pointed vagely at a map. - "Is it walking distance?" - She didn't really know. When asked if the car could be delivered to the hotel she suggested I call and ask them. Please help this woman to a more suitable job!

I was here for a 1 night stay, reservation was done by internet on a third party channel.
The rate found was quite convenient, the hotel is in an historical building, right by the Porta Nigra, and Karl Marks house.
The walking area starts in front of the house. I made the booking while was in the car, parked few steps away, I entered the front door, was warmly welcomed, and the reservation was already acknowledged, and everything ready for check in, well done for the front of the house staff.
The interior of the common areas is well reflecting the facade.
The room was good sized, but I was given twin beds, quite small, and no possibility to merge because of night tables in between.
Was 22:30 when I checked in, and probably no other options were available.
The room had a small balcony with view on a secondary street, so was quite.
Bathroom was large and clean.
At the end was in line or above the rate paid.
Didn’t try breakfast.

This hotel is a town centre hotel, it’s location is very central right beside the pont nigra in the city centre. The hotel is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful city of Trier.the rooms are not large but very functional and an excellent shower started each day off perfectly. We didn’t dine in the hotel, we preferred the local cafes and restaurants in the sunshine. If you are looking for a good quality town centre hotel then this is perfect. Also only a few minutes walk from the railway station.

My wife and I have stayed in this hotel several times but this might have been the last time. Breakfast is an extra €9.50 each which is OK for normal German buffet breakfast but, when we had to check boxes on a piece of paper for what we wanted for breakfast, without being able to see what we were ordering, it is NOT OK but very disappointing. There were not many in the hotel but there MUST be a better way of serving breakfast for the same price as a normal full buffet with everything displayed.

Unfortunately when we arrived we didn’t get off to a good start as the standard of room we were given was nothing like what we thought we had booked!

For some reason we were taken to what I can only call pokey attic room, with one set of curtains missing and that meant no privacy from another nearby room once it was dark ..
a very odd situation!

So we returned to reception to complain and were immediately shown to a far superior room, very much like the one we thought we had booked. However, the lift area and corridors smelt of drains but this was rectified over night.

For what we paid, room only with no breakfast it was an ok stay but we wouldn’t consider staying again or recommending it to anyone.

The hotel desperately needs to spend some money to bring certain parts up to the standards guests should expect from a city centre hotel .. the laminate floor in our particular room was appalling and in places the wood effect has completely worn away.

Backpackers hostel is a better description. I’ve had better Uni accommodation. Expensive for the little it offered.
Good point: free outdoor secure parking 200m away.
Our room was basic. Bed. 2 ‘office’ chairs. TV German channels only. English ‘kein dienst’. No bottled water, no tea/coffee/kettle. No hotel/town info. Nothing. Bathroom missing a mirror, but its bracket was still there.
Online details said ‘bar/restaurant’. Where were they?
There’s a Mercure opposite. Go there.

We spent 2 nights at the Hotel Romischer Kaiser at the end of a week travelling around Germany. It was one of the best hotels we stayed in - we liked Trier and the hotel so much that we threw our schedule out of the window and stayed an extra night!

We had two different rooms on the fifth floor, one with a view over the Porta Nigra, and the other with a view over the main street. Both were very comfortable and spacious with comfy beds and big, clean bathrooms. The first room had a dormer window in the roof and the second had a large window and smaller portholes. Despite being in the middle of the town neither was especially noisy.

Breakfast was delicious - lots of choice of meat, cheese, bread, cereal and fruit along with coffee, juice and champagne. The first day we had to take it in their other hotel, the Aldstadt, but as this is only across the road it wasn't a big deal.

Parking is free and secure. We also ate in the hotel restaurant on the second night. The meal was superb, and the wine was good too. The only slight issue was an inexperienced waitress who brought and opened the wrong wine without us realising and didn't ask how I wanted my steak cooked - fortunately we spoke enough German to rectify this and prevent it being well-done.

Overall Trier is an extremely interesting city and the Romischer Kaiser is a highly recommended base from which to see it.

I visited Trier in Oct 2000 and stayed at the Romischer Kaiser for 2 nights. It's a great hotel - very modern but very comfortable. Lots of interesting high-tech touches - automatic light controls in hallways, mechanized window and blind controls. Terrific restaurant and you couldn't have a better location, right next to the Porta Nigra. Loved Trier - lots of interesting Roman sites and very nice people.

We stayed 2 nights a the Romishcher Kaiser in April 2001 before we boarded the KD line Mosel/Rhine/Main River Cruise for a week. The hotel is a lovely old mansion 1/2 block from the Porta Nigra. The location was perfect for exploring the pedestrian city center. The rooms were very clean, modern, and fairly large by European standards. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel let us check out late at 6:00 PM on Saturday to go to the cruise ship and did not even charge us for an extra day! The breakfast buffet was first class with lots of wonderful food and champagne. They had a secure car park about 1 block away. The cruise line tried to steer us to the generic modern Dorint Hotel in Trier but the Romischer Kaiser had a better location and more personallity for less money. Trier is a great town with lots to see. I would love to come back again for a longer visit.
