Fabulous view over Trier with all the main attractions in view. Great and wide ranging breakfast with deliciously fresh bread. Very helpful staff. The bedroom could do with a spruce up but it was clean, comfortable, warm and had that fabulous view. Plus a little terrace attched to the bedroom to sit and take in the view with a coffee or a glass of beer or wine.

We were there one night and enjoyed it very much. It is close to the city center, it is quiet, it is beautiful ...from the outside and although it is exceptionally clean, the inside - in spite of being well kept - was clearly 70s chic.... They don't have a restaurant but serve a well stocked breakfast. Wouldn't mind going there again for one night.

I found this hotel to be a wonderful, charming retreat. We arrived after driving along the Mosel River all day. It was a little difficult to find, so make sure you have good directions and a map. But it has a wonderful location on the top of the hill overlooking the town. It is away from the main attractions, but it is a pretty 20 minute walk down the hill to town.

The rooms, common areas, and grounds are all beautifully decorated in lovely German style. The owner was very helpful. He recommended a great restaurant our second night there (we should have asked the first night too), provided us with everything we needed to enjoy our bottle of wine we bought while out touring, and showed us the best path for a walking tour of town. Breakfast was included and was delicious with a wide variety of offerings.

All in all, we felt like we were welcome guests in someone's home, not faceless travellers in a hotel. We would definitely return to Trie and the Hotel Petrisberg.

The hotel is situated on top of the high hill, the road leading to it is very narrow and winding ,so you've to be very carefool when driving. If you want go to town you have to drive 12-14 minutes ,or walk down 20 minutes steep winding path.To go back from the city you have two options ,first walk up by the 30-40 minutes the steep hill or take taxi for 15 €. We made the reservation for double room with garden view, but we 've got a room overlooking the roof covered with gravel and wilted bushes. The garden surrounding the hotel was neglected. The hotel offers basic breakfast and on the first day our stay they have run out of black tea and the person taking care of breakfast buffet - stated "That there will be no black tea, because they have run out of it",and there was no black tea for our whole stay .There is no restaurant in the hotel,so you've to dine in town every evening. The whole place looks neglected and uncared for.The rooms are not soundproof ,so you could hear other guests .The only pro is car parking free of charge.

We arrived in Trier having not booked a hotel and chanced upon the Petrisberg. Luckily someone had just cancelled so they were able to fit us in. The welcome was delightful, and the view from our balcony was one of Trier that I imagine would be hard to beat.

Having said this, the room was rather basic, although spotlessly clean. It was also rather small (by anyone's standards, not just someone from the U.S., as previously mentioned). The bathroom was tiny and the towels barely big enough to keep one decent, the shower, however, worked well. There was no bath.

The positives more than outweighed the negatives, we would stay there again.

Please book a room at this place if you have to stay near Trier. The owner Helmut is in his 80's and still runs what is his family home. He even serves the breakfast. The views from the balconies are amazing. The rooms are a throw back to the 70's. Breakfast is weird and cool at the same time. We cannot recommend this place too highly. It needs to be kept going at all costs. Do not book into a chain hotel. Support this adorable fabulous place!

Nine of us recently stayed four nights at the lovely Petrisberg hotel. Although the location is not in the city of Trier, the view of the city from our private balcony was amazing! The family that owns the hotel bent over backwards to be accomodating and friendly with directions and restaurant recommendations. Driving a car to this hotel is best but there is city bus service available.

The rooms are large for European standards and average for American standards. Each 2 person bedroom had a private balcony with a view overlooking Trier. The single bedroom also had a private balcony with a view of the beautiful forest behind the hotel. The rooms are updated and very clean. We paid 125 Euro per night for a double room.

Breakfast was exceptionally good and filling. Each day besides the usual spread of fruit, cereal, breads, homemade jam, cold cuts, soft boiled egg and yogurt a delicious hot egg casserole was available.

The quiet hillside location of Petrisberg Hotel made for a relaxing respite after a long day of sight seeing and wine sipping along the Mossel River. Highly recommended.

We found Petrisberg in our Rick Steve's guide book and it looked like a place we would like. With no reservation we pulled into the beautiful gated drive to find what we thought for sure was a hotel closed for the season. As we're standing in the driveway trying to decide what to do next, here comes this dapper German gentleman who introduces himself as Helmut, the owner. He's open and he has a room for us. Turns out we are the only guests at the hotel! He shows us in and offers to show us the room (we decline because we're sure we'll take the room). He fills out a registration form (by hand, of course) and gives us our old fashioned room key, telling us he'll cook us breakfast whenever we are ready in the morning. (Just us, we had the whole dining room to ourselves the next morning with a delicious, full breakfast.) As he's entertaining us with his charm and tales of growing up in Trier during WWll he suddenly realizes he's late for lunch with his brother, Wolfgang. He hurries out the front door of the his hotel and zooms away on his scooter, leaving us slightly agog and ALL alone in the building. All. Alone. No staff, nothing. It was the coolest, weirdest thing-Something that would never, ever happen in the Bay Area. The hotel room was spotless and charming. He gave us a central room with a full view of the city. We spent some time peeking around the hotel then explored the city for the rest of the day. We ended up bringing snacks and wine back to the room and enjoying the view on the terrace till well after dark. The bed was comfortable and the experience overall was one of the best we've ever had on any vacation, anywhere. Go stay with these gentlemen, it was amazing.

We came across this hotel by pure chance and can't believe how lucky we were. The hotel is perfectly located in the quiet hilltop woods with a panoramic view of Trier. The city is just a short 20 minutes walk down the hill. Our room had a balcony with chairs and a table where we could sit and sip our wine. The bed was very comfortable and the whole room was nice and clean. We slept with the windows open and the only noise we heard was from the birds singing in the morning. The owners have amassed an incredible collection of antiques and curiosities over the years which adorn not just the common areas but the rooms as well. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and laid out a great breakfast in the morning. This is a place we will definitely return to.
