The Parador is situated just at the Atlantic Ocean given a great view from the panoramic windows of our room. The room was large and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. Also the dining experience at the hotel was excellent. The center of the old town was within walking distance

This hotel has superb public space and rooms with views in the older part of Cádiz. Highly recommended. The rooms are of a standard one would expect in such a hotel and our special romantic package ( with cava, chocolates etc) was lovely and good value. Public areas vast and comfy and the spa and pool reputedly excellent. Restaurant was disappointing... a bit tired we felt. Staff great.

We had booked a suite at this hotel in February & I must admit that in the light of Covid, we never thought that we'd actually get there! But we are so glad that we did!!
We cannot fault the hotel with their attempts to control the virus. There were sanitizers every where ~ in the lifts, foyer, by the doors, all eating areas, in the rooms. Sun loungers were sanitized every morning before the opening of the pool area. When people vacated their loungers they were sanitized again. Tables & chairs were sanitized after each use.
Our room was wonderful. It was a corner suite & had superb sea/castle views. It was so spacious & spotlessly clean & the comfy bed faced out to the sea.
In order to cope with the virus we had to book a breakfast time so that everything could be cleaned before the next group came to eat. We had little wooden tonges for handling food & all drinks were bottled. There was a good selection of food ~ plenty of fruits, meats, cheeses, hot food but surprisingly NO FISH!! Such a pity!!
We ate in the restaurant & the meal was stunning! It was beautifully presented & contained some very unusual dishes ~ a meal fit for a 70th birthday! They brought my husband a cake & the pianist played happy birthday. We also ate at the pool bar & the indoor terraza & the food was equally good ~ especially the gazpacho soup!
The decor in the hotel was tasteful & very modern. There were plenty of comfy sofas & the bar area was relaxing & airy.
The hotel was well situated for walking to the beach or into town & it was right next to a stunning park.
We found all the staff to be helpful & pleasant ~ nothing was too much trouble!
If we could, we would visit this hotel again but sadly flights no longer fly from Manchester, Uk to Jerez. We were only informed about this 7 wks before our holiday!! We had to travel from Malaga which is 2hrs 30 mins away! However, it was worth the effort!!
Thank you to all the staff for a memorable holiday & birthday!

The hotel itself is fabulous especially the room with its bifold doors onto the terrace with seaviews. The modern building is stunning and incredibly interesting.
There are 4 x wonderful pools, one is a hydrotherapy pool and the other is great for swimming laps.
Cleanliness was brilliant all round the hotel and it was a reassuring touch to have a label on items in the room saying "sanitized"
Service in general was good and Alejandro at reception was super helpful, calm and provided a great service. Sadly the gentleman at the pool was not, he rolled his eyes once when I asked something and generally was rude.
Also a member of staff at breakfast also rolled his eyes...they seem impatient with guests, bad training in my opinion.
Breakfast buffet was good, there was a wide selection to eat but the biggest negative were the eggs. The fried eggs were brown around the edges.
We hope to return purely for the wonderful hotel and room and our love of Cadiz but the service let's it down.

We had originally booked this hotel for 3 nights and had a Parador Amigo card deal, however we had to curtail it to 2 nights for reasons I won't bore you with. The (very cheap) deal was forfeited because of the change, but the rate was still decent for this quality of hotel, and the Paradors Customer Services made the alteration for me with no fuss after I emailed them.

In fact, when we arrived, they upgraded us to a suite, which was huge and very luxurious. The design of the building is bordering on brutalist, but we knew what to expect. Staff helpful and paid parking was directly below the hotel (not in the public car park down the street). Staff were helpful; breakfast was decent if unspectacular. The bar area could be improved by making it more cosy, but that was not important to us because there are several great bars and tapas places in the old town (maybe 10 minutes walk to the centre).

One tip about the car park: the button to release the door is not obvious. I had to leave the car parked on the ramp close to the door and hunt for the button. I pressed it, expecting to speak to someone and explain that I wanted to leave, but the door started opening inwards (towards the car). I had to run and get back in the car, and it scraped our bumper. This was not a great end to what had in fact been a very pleasant stay. I would advise they move the button.

We use Paradors regularly and in general we are very pleased with our stays, most Paradors are historical buildings which have been rescued and turned into up-market hotels, so there are extras found in them that you don’t often get in standard hotels.

The Cadiz Parador is totally different, a modern hotel in a very distinctive style – a very large glass box – and we were very interested to see how it compared with the others in the group.

We spent 3 nights there in early February, hardly seaside visiting weather, in a junior suite facing east. The suites occupy the corners of each floor and are in fact two normal rooms combined into a bedroom and lounge with windows along the full lengths of two walls, with a balcony at the end, and fully opening windows to access it. The view is amazing over the bay and the hotel pools, and even in February it was possible to sit there in the sun during the afternoon enjoying the view.

The room was very comfortable and, obviously, large, well equipped, with two bathrooms, two TV’s, and tea & coffee making equipment. There was also a large bath in the bedroom.

Overall our experience was excellent. The facilities were good, breakfast very good with a large choice of both Spanish and other European breakfasts, eggs cooked to order, and they even had wheat milk for my wife. It was self-service, so access was restricted in line with the current covid regulations, which required masks whilst moving about and the use of personal tongues to select the food.

As we have found in other Paradors, the staff were also great, helpful and responsive, a fault with our shower door was fixed before lunch when reported, and some very good recommendations provided for dinner in local restaurants.

Downsides? Not many, one is a standard problem in all the Paradors we have stayed in, the room soundproofing is not good, especially if someone in the room next door is having a row, the mattresses are standard Parador issue, ie hard – you either like them or you don’t, and the lighting control in the rooms requires a degree in electronics to understand it, in the end we just worked out which was the main switch and used that. However, none of these detracted from the enjoyment.

Altogether an excellent stay, and probably one that will be repeated when the weather warms a little.

Dear briangb, It is really a pleasure to know that you did enjoyed your stay at this parador, despite its many differences with others you had known before. We thank you so much for your so detailed description of our junior suites, both its pros and cons, and are sure travellers will appreciate. We regret, we are not going to change the lighting system, but we inform you that we dispose of some toppers that can be put on our mattresses to soften them. If you have the same problem during your next visit, do not hesitate to inform our reception desk. Thank you so much for telling your experience. We look forward to welcoming you soon again. Best regards, MJH-Parador de Cádiz

The food, seaside location, pool, spa and gym make this an attractive Cádiz option. However I am afraid that price / quality is not upto Parador standards. The Bar is understaffed before 8 pm. Also the decking needs a paint-job and rooms are overpriced. Due to Covid measures breakfast is over organised which leads to long waiting and the breakfast buffet running out of items at the last shift. The location on the Boulevard makes for great sunset views but next door are some empty buildings that make it at little bit tacky for a Parador.

This hotel is in a great location for seeing old Cadiz and has great views. That's the only two positive things we can say about this hotel.

Paradors are state-owned and it shows.Everything is run for the benefit of the staff.

All "guests" have to pre-book a breakfast slot (7:30, 8:30 etc). That means that (a) the lifts are manic and they won't stop at each floor (presumably Covid measures!) and (b) everyone piles in at the same time so the queues are horrendous (so much for social distancing). The staff don't clear tables once diners have left.
Why would they if they know no one else is allowed in for another 1/2 hour? We tried jumping the queue and got hauled back. You can't just rock up and eat.
This is Butlins in the 1960s/70s. I expect better at Eur450/night in 2022. We deducted Eur25 pp per day and ate in a local cafe. Money talks, we walk!

The hotel has the best view in Cadiz but there's no where to enjoy it. All drinks and meals HAVE to to be taken indors (no client requests for outside seating allowed). We ended up sitting in the park in the afternoon. Despite two enormous balconies (one on the 7th floor and one outside the dining room), there are no sofas, chairs to tables to enjoy a sunset drink. Being British we decided to take a glass of wine and sit on the step to enjoy the sun. Lovely until the hotel staff requested us to move because "we were blocking the view for the diners" (!) Since we'd seen other guests doing the same thing the previous evening we were stunned to say the least.

The rooms are so narrow there's no space for a bedside table. Instead a wood shelf behind the bed (cracked skulls galore) so you can't read in bed and everything flies off when one turns over in bed.

The lighting are a Nasa engineer's wet dream. There are Lutron-style switches for everything, everywhere. OK until you realise they are permanently lit up (take an eye mask) and you can't read them if you're over 40 and don't have 20/20 vision. Why not one simple over ride switch and one for the blinds on the wall?

The bathrooms are beyond dated. Creaky sliding glass doors. Who thought walking by the loo and a bidet (of course!) in a cubby hole to get to the shower was a good idea?? This is 2022. Up your game!

They are trading on the Parador name and the location. There's nowhere else in Cadiz. They need the competition.

Dear Surreyhotelguru, We deeply regret that your experience at this parador did not meet your expectations for the reasons explained in your review. Regarding your comments about the breakfast schedules, we inform you that they are not designed for the staff's convenience, but in order to avoid too much demand at the lattest hours, which made it impossible for the lasts guest to get a seat at the breakfast room. We are concious that this measure is not to everyone's liking, but at the moment, we do not plan to change it as we see more advantages to disadvantages in this system. We apologize for the behaviour of the person attending the entrance of the breakfast restaurant and will take measures to prevent this from happening again. In reference to your comments about enjoying something outside, we will be having soon tables outside the restaurant so that our guests may have dinner outside. We also take note of your comments about the room, in order to check and fit those elements in need of it. We thank you very much for your opinion and look forward to seeing you again. Best regards, MJH-Parador de Cádiz

Quiet hotel in good location, close to old town centre.
Covid protocols were excellent. Beautiful pools, lovely room and very clean but although everything is modern and high tech i found that some of the most common and practical things were missing and or were not practical at all. There were loads of doors in the room, only the bathroom had 3 doors which was really not necessary and pointless then the towel racks were uncomfortable to use which left me just placing the towels on the side and having them in the way as there was not much space by the sink. The lights and electric blinds were a challenge to use! If you are there for a week you will get the hang of it lol
The bed was really comfortable!
Then we had an issue with room service, u need to order online but apparently there are a few glitches, i ordered a full breakfast which is the standard (sausage, tomatoes beans orange juice etc etc) and then separately you need to order a choice of either fried or scrambled egg and coffee or tea but guess what! We only got the coffee and scrambled egg when i asked about this, reception said that the email they get will not show what is standard, it only shows the extra! They were nice about it but they weren’t really that apologetic, they just said that we could go and have breakfast at the restaurant if we wanted to, which wasn’t really the point. It felt as if the system was on trial, we were testing it and they were learning from guest feedback.
I really liked the place but it is not worth the price we paid.

Dear Christine, Thank you very much for having taken the time to share your feedback about your last stay at Parador de Cádiz with the other users on Tripadvisor. As per your comments about the stay itself, we are pleased to know that you did enjoy very much the stay and this is our main goal and most important aspect for us. In regards to the difficulties experienced with the design of the room and its lighting system, it is rather a modern construction and design with all the technological details that sometimes are not that similar to the most common ones at home. Do not hesitate to contact us at any time on your next stay so we can assist you operating them. We also would like to apologize for the inconvenience faced with our brand-new App. As you could appreciate, it is indeed one of the measures adapted due to the current situation and we try to get it better and solid as we go. Christine, we hope to have the chance to welcome you back to the hotel soon so you can enjoy the full Paradores experience hopefully as it used to be before… With my Best Wishes, Pau Arbona Deputy to the General Manager

We stayed at the hotel and found some of the staff unhelpful and not very nice. The rooms were good with sea views but overpriced for what we got. The breakfast one the sunday morning was not good as we asked for an omelette and it was not well cooked. A different chef cooked it better on the 2nd morning. I also got the smallest gin in the bar I have ever been served in Spain, for the most cost €15. When we were checking out they got us to pay for the parking even though we had already paid. They were very unhelpful in trying to resolve this and after spending 30 minutes arguing about it we paid it again (€40) and are now trying to resolve it with the company we booked with. Hotel is in a good location and the food and staff in the restaurant on the ground floor were great.
