What a great place to stay and experience Cadiz. The hotel is in a good location to access the bars and restaurants and we actually walked to the train station with out suitcases when moving to the next location rather than take a taxi. Only a 10 minute walk and on very safe path considering where the station is. The staff at the hotel are really lovey and very keen to help. The hotel has loads of character and feel of an Andalucian house which makes you feel less like a tourist. The rooms are large and comfortable and all the comforts needed for a good stay. We stayed in some larger hotels during our visit to Andalisia but it was the Argantonio and a similar small hotel in Jerez (La Gitanilla) that gave us the best experience (Hotel) of the 8 hotels we stayed at during our visit.

This is a small hotel in the heart of Cadiz old town. The hotel has charm but most importantly a small team of warm and welcoming staff who answered every question and request with speed and patience

Perfect location to wander the narrow streets and visit an array of cultural gems.

Top tip: you can walk everywhere but if you need to, use the #2 bus to take you round to the beach, castle or cathedral. Simple and cheap and the bus stop is close to the hotel. Likewise #5 bus takes you to the train and bus station.

This should really have 3 1/2 stars but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. First off, it was really difficult to find the hotel, we went around and around in circles until we worked it out. The front desk staff acknowledged the issue and we did get an email with a map and directions - but it arrived the day after we checked in! We had booked a standard room and were really disappointed with how how tiny it was! There was barely room for our suitcases on the floor, a weird, tiny shower and not much room for toiletries in the bathroom. And this room looked nothing like any of the photos online.

We asked to switch even if it would be more expensive. They were full on that first night but said that we could have a suite for the next two night, at an additional charge, which we agreed to. We ended up with the best room in the hotel, on the top floor. A huge double sized room, huge bathroom with separate spa tub, a private walled area on the roof terrace (although there is nothing to see but buildings all around, it was nice to have an outdoor area). We were charged more for this room but I am pretty sure we were not charged as much as if we had booked this room initially. There were lovely welcoming treats and it was all very special. The only negative was an intermittent sewer smell coming from the bathroom. We assumed this was due to the fact of being in an old building in an old city and it wasn't an issue. The bed was very comfortable and there were extra blankets for the cold nights.

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, but only when asked. Most hotels give you a rundown, with a map, when you first check in. This did not happen here, we were told nothing unless we asked. On the plus side, the available parking was great, easy in and out of a spacious shared garage.

The worst part, and why I almost gave 3 stars, was that the breakfast was just terrible. It was not a buffet like all the other hotels offer. We were each given a plate of fruit, that we had to cut up ourselves, a croissant and another plate with a slice of ham and a slice of cheese. There was also a bar with cereals, yoghurt and additional bread available. The first morning everything was okay as to quality. But the second morning, we were given the same plates, but the croissant was hard and inedible, all the other bread was stale and the whole thing was just unappetising. We skipped it the third morning, and on checkout found they hadn't charged us for the second day breakfast, so that was good of them (we hadn't complained, we just left most of the food).

This hotel seems on the verge of being a much better place than it was at the time we stayed. I don't know if there's a new owner but we had the sense they were working on making it better.

We were checked in by a very helpful lady who upgraded us to a room with a little balcony on the outside street. When we got to our room we saw that some rooms have only windows facing on the internal courtyard, which may be a bit annoying. The view on the street is obviously not much, because this is an old town with narrow streets, however the hotel has a terrace with a very interesting view.

Our room was OK, without any frills. The bathroom, albeit spacious lacked surfaces and hooks to place/hang your stuff. Going in to take a shower in the morning one doesn’t know where to hang the pyjamas. A couple of hooks, even on the door would be a great inexpensive investment. The little wooden column with four useless drawers is of no use whatsoever.

The TV was particularly annoying because the volume could be controlled only vocally and in Spanish and with the wrong pronunciation we got all sorts of embarrassing results. It’s a very bad idea to have vocal control when tourists not speaking the language are involved. Besides, we could not connect to watch programs via our Netflix account.

The lobby, breakfast room and downstairs bathroom look much nicer and better taken care of than the furniture in the room. The common areas are nicely shabby/chic and very cosy. Breakfast is served to the guests if they ask for it, and it is OK.

The location is very convenient to walk around the Old City. As mentioned, staff is efficient and friendly and with minimal investment in the rooms furnishing the hotel would be a real jewel.

Of our 6 hotels we stayed in this was my favourite. From the moment we arrived we made to feel welcome and the staff on reception were very friendly and very helpful. Beautifully restored and renovated period property the hotel was calm and quiet even though it was situated just off one of the main thoroughfares. It took about 20 mins to walk from the bus station. Well situated for all of the main tourist attractions and we also walked to Playa Victoria and back.
Our room was very comfortable. No outside view but there was an external window. Ensuite shower and toilet was a little cozy but perfectly acceptable. Breakfast was a in a bright larger area next to reception and the choice was very good Including a bowl of fresh fruit. Reasonably priced if you booked direct with breakfast included this hotel and its staff were our favourite and we would not hesitate to go back or recommend to other travellers.

Just spent a weekend at this hotel to celebrate our anniversary. A little difficult to find as my sat nav needs updating. Car parking opposite the hotel but I will come to that latter.
The room was small it adequate as we were not there to spend time in the room. The hotel has a lot of North African influences in its decoration. Well placed in reach of most parts of the Historical centre.
The staff were exceptional and really looked after us. Nothing was too march trouble for them and were a mine of information.
The breakfast was continental but more than adequate and plenty to choose from.
The only downside was the car parking. Although we did not realise you had to book a space in the hotel parking they found us a space. The car park was not built with modern cars in mind, so it is very tight getting in and out. I have a Dacia Duster and unfortunately the final turn to the exit ramp needs great care and I scrapped my front wing, although it was my own fault the turn into the ramp and visibility is not good it’s a big car.
That aside we had a wonderful stay and would go back but find somewhere else to park.

Hotel is within easy walking distance of most attractions.
We booked a deluxe room which was quite spacious and well appointed. The bathroom was a bit small with no room for a wash hand basin. However there were 2 in the main room.
The bed was large and comfortable and I slept well. On arrival there was a small bottle of prosecco, a large bottle of water and some chocolates.
Breakfast at €10 was reasonably good, we took it 2 mornings out of 4.
Reception staff were very helpful and spoke reasonably good English.
I would recommend this hotel.

This is a wonderful hotel with a delightful interior and great support staff. We loved the ceramics on the floors and stairwells, and the rooms were spacious and charming. The staff did everything they could to make us comfortable, and the location was peaceful and could not be beat for access to the old part of the city. We loved this hotel and would return in a heartbeat.

Hotel Argantonio is an historic, romantic, unique hotel that is resplendent in more ways than one. First, it is in an excellent location about 15 minutes (walk) from the train station in the historical center and a close walk from everything. Second, it is so beautiful with its plentiful antiques, Moroccan painted doors and door frames, many candles and luminaries, and a lovely center courtyard that extends up to the fourth floor where the rooftop terrace is. While we did not eat breakfast there, there is a lovely breakfast room where we were able to work in the afternoons. Most impressive was the kind and friendly staff who were outstanding. On Epiphany Day, we arrived in our room to find Cava and sweets. Our room was small but lovely and the shower was great. This is an excellent choice for a romantic visit to Cádiz.

This hotel is lovely and should rate more stars! The room was spacious; the shared space in the lobby very inviting; and a very well-priced, very ample expanded continental breakfast at an excellent price. The staff are also very welcoming. We would highly recommend the Argantonio to anyone who visits Cadiz, a fascinating city.

The train goes to Santa Justa rail and AVE station. The journey by train is about 1hr 40 mins and another 40 mins by bus to the airport. Put Renfe - Cadiz- Santa Justa in a search engine for the timetable. You can pick up a bus from the station to the airport: check out timetable in search engine: aena-sevilla-airport-public-transport.

The air conditioning is a dual unit which also heats the room. There are also extra blankets to use on top of the duvet if you wish. The hotel staff is very hospitable and the hotel is popular all year round. This would not be the case if it were cold in winter I think.
Answer from Jaime M
Hi Ray P, as Endis has said, you can take a train from airport to Cádiz and when you arrive at Cadiz station, you can take a taxi, a bus (the station is two bus stops from the hotel) or you can walk over 10-15 minutes to the hotel.

Yes, you can leave your luggage after check-out and come back later. The train station is some 10 min on foot.
