Yet another great stay at the Pez Espada, we were a little apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews and thought about cancelling but glad to say everything was fine and had actually improved in our opinion .😊 We had a lovely welcome from Angel , José and Raphael in the restaurant who remembered us from our previous visits.Must mention the alteration to the serving area in the restaurant it is a vast improvement, the food is now much hotter, also the labelling of dishes has improved and dishes are replenished promptly. All areas of the hotel are well kept ,love the bedroom decor in the club rooms and the fluffy towels in the bathroom. It was a pleasure staying here and we will definitely return.☀️😊☀️ The hotel has a great location between Carihuela and Benalmadena Marina and just up the hill at the front of the hotel are bus stops for Mijas, Benalmadena, Fuengirola,Torremolinos and Málaga. It is worth buying a tarjeta...(a green bus card) from the Tabac shops which can be used on all buses with a M before the number, it initially costs 1.50 euros and then you top up with any amount minimum 5 euros ... you tell the driver your destination and the card reduces the bus fare to currently 45 cents instead of 1.70 euros or 40 cents instead of 1.55 euros your remaining card balance is then shown on your ticket ,the same card can be used for upto 15 people. The card can be used for future visits when you top up again at the Tabac shop.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and very interesting as well with the history. All the staff we encountered were very professional and friendly. The room was a good size and comfortable. Lovely big bath towels a sign to me of a good hotel room. the downside to our room was that it got no sun on the balcony at all. It was room 1002. I found that there was a lot of up and down to get anywhere in the hotel. The steps leading to the dining room although ornate, were lethal for anyone with mobility issues. There was however a small lift. Drinks were a reasonable price for a hotel. We were half board but did not really enjoy the evening buffet so ate out most of the time especially when you had to queue at times to get in. The hotel is in a good position directly on the sea front. We would normally only go adults only there were some children not really a bother but don't know if this would be more of an issue in the summer months. All in all a good hotel but I would stay bed and breakfast next time if I were to return.

I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but it was lovely. So nice we went back there for two nights at the end of our travels around Andalusia. For £75 per night we had a large sea view room with balcony and breakfast. The breakfast was fantastic with everything you could think of on the buffet, hot breakfast items, a chef making omelettes, smoked salmon, salad, ham and cheeses, fruits , cereals . Plus a sea view from the dining room. I can’t comment on the dinner service as we ate out with so many restaurants within a short walk. The only downside was the parking at 16 euros per night as the on street parking was full. Only about 20 minutes drive from Malaga airport. If we’d just been staying there we wouldn’t have bothered with a hire car. We caught the local bus to Malaga from the top of the road only 1 euro 70 each way. The promenade runs directly outside the hotel and it’s a 15 minute walk to the belamadina harbour and about the same in the other direction to the torremolinos seafront and shops. Every evening there is entertainment in the hotel. The hotel foyer and lounge areas are bright and modern with references to the stars that have stayed there in the past. Nothing not to like for the price, would definitely go back

Stayed at Pez Espada for the first time in January based on recommendations from family. The hotel it self is very well located, smack bang between Ben & Tom, both a short walk each way, with a bus stop also close by. It is worth noting that in January it is still slightly out of season and not everything is open - this isn't usually a problem, however the hotel itself also wasn't fully open either. For example, to get a decent coffee it was a good 20 minute walk. The rooms them selves, were slightly on the small side, however big enough for a week stay. The wardrobes weren't hugely big, so would probably struggle if I stayed longer. Rooms have clearly been redecorated recently, and of a nice modern décor. Full amenities available including a safe, tv, and usual jazz in the bathroom. AC doesn't work in January apparently, instead the turn the heating on - thankfully reception accommodated us with a fan. Rooms were cleaned daily and spotless. Public areas were also spotlessly clean, however it looks like they went a bit "cheap" on the refurb in public areas as cracks are appearing, wall paper is peeling, and there was a plastering work going on in the reception area which was pretty noisy. Breakfast, was absolutely beautiful - nice choice are always hot. Sadly the evening meal was not the same. Choice was very repetitive, with oily fish, and rice dishes with bones in. The restaurant staff were amazing though, and shout out to the young gent on the Show Station, who cooked some beautiful meat and some of the best pancakes also! This hotel is advertised as "family" hotel, however I would say its more appropriate, aimed for, and catered for the elder generation. Based on the food alone, I highly doubt I would be back.

This was our second 3-week stay at this large, bustling hotel. Last year we stayed in a superior side sea view room and loved the views, decor and peace and quiet. This year we decided to pay extra for a junior suite, but ended up wishing we hadn't bothered. Although the suite was huge and had 2 sofas plus a hot tub on the balcony, we felt it didn't live up to our expectations. We heard a lot of noise from other hotel guests, which appeared to come through the air con vents; during our stay there was a Spanish couple next door who seemed to scrape their furniture across the floor at all times of day and night. On another occasion there were 3 young couples staying on either side of us who insisted on shouting at each other across their balconies. They also smoked constantly, so we ended up having to leave our balcony and sit in our room to avoid inhaling the fumes. We found the water in the shower often ran cold - one night we had to report it, as we both ended up having a completely cold shower. The cleaners, waiters and entertainment staff were generally pleasant and very hard-working, but we found some of the reception staff quite aloof. The restaurant got really busy and noisy at times and it was sometimes difficult to find a table. The food on an evening was generally decent - especially the freshly cooked fish, but a lot of the cooked meat dishes were unappetising stews and barely warm. Since our visit this year we've concluded that large, noisy hotels just aren't for us - we'll be trying somewhere smaller and quieter next year.

We loved this hotel- the beach and boardwalk go on forever. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the marina, and the walk the other direction seems to go all the way to Malaga? The hotel is clean, friendly, has an excellent breakfast, has evening entertainment- Flamenco dancers for one night of our stay, and is right on the beach. Our room was a junior suite with a balcony facing the sea.

We have stayed at the Pez Espada many times over the years for a month in winter and have been very happy with everything. We love the food, the attentive staff, the position of the hotel and its lovely history. This year we stayed in January for 31 days. From early to mid January the hotel took bookings from groups of young football teams which changed the whole character of this lovely place. the groups were shouting and singing to each other from balconies and on one night over 60 young men invaded the evening buffet on mass! No one else could get a look in and the staff were unable to keep the food refilled, it was just chaos! I appreciate that the hotel has to look for any bookings they can in winter, their quiet time, but this amount of young men totally disrupted the whole hotel and spoint it for everyone else. I would advise anyone thinking of booking to avoid early to mid Janury if they want a quiet and restful holiday.
