Exquisitely presented hotel with all the trimmings. Blanca the owner is lovely, shes very attentive, if you spend the day around the pool she comes out offering free drinks which is a lovely touch. She offers her knowledge of the area and gives good advice on places to visit, restaurants, bus routes etc.
Our room was a good size with a lovely ensuite shower room all cleaned daily, the rooms have a free mini bar and free coffee machine which are restocked daily.
There is parking available but you do have to work with Blanca and the other guests as one car sits behind another, it really was no issue to me whatsoever to move briefly if required.
Breakfast was superb and plentyful and you won't need to eat until the evening.
All in all, a loveky place and we would certainly stay again if we were in the area.

We had a fantastic time at Villa Birdie. Blanca and Xabi could not have been more welcoming. We'd highly recommend the villa to any couple wanting a relaxing stay in San Sebastian. While the Villa isn't in the city centre, it's in a really nice part of town and it has both bus and rail stops only a few minutes walk away. From there it's only a few minutes to either Gros or the Old Town.

The villa pool was great and offered a relaxing spot to unwind in the sunshine. The rooms were very tastefully decorated and kept spotlessly clean.

We loved it so much that when we next return to San Sebastian, it'll be the only place that we consider staying.

My husband and I stayed at the wonderful Villa Birdie recently. We chose the place because it was close to the restaurant Arzak. We were so pleasantly surprised to find a lovely home with a warm, welcoming host. The owner, Blanca makes you feel at home immediately. Her villa is so stylish and well decorated. Our room with a balcony was so comfortable. The breakfast, which is included, was so substantial and delicious. We were expecting a modest continental breakfast but instead received a four course meal which not only included fresh fruit and croissants but also Iberico ham and fried eggs. It had an amazing pool which was perfect for relaxing. We didn't want to leave at the end of our stay. Blanca is a super host!

My partner and i stayed at Villa Birdie this year during a holiday through Spain. The accommodation is nice enough and the location was convenient. We arrived late the first night off the back of a multi day overnight festival and while the host Blanca was quirky and rather intense, moving our luggage around in the room to places where she thought it should go, she was accommodating to the late check in. This intensity rapidly became overbearing on the second day with repeated passive aggressive comments related to the late check in, not attending breakfast (microwaved stale croissants and fruit) and not consenting to our room being cleaned. The second day was much worse. We hung around until the early afternoon, taking care of some admin and study online. When my partner attempted to return to our room to use the toilet (there are none in the common areas) Blanc had locked us out of the room and initially refused to open the door. It took repeated requests before, after several minutes, she opened the door. After they were finished cleaning we saw that they had removed every decorative item from the room, leaving only functional ones, like the coffee machine. She had also reorganised our belongings, going so far as to put smaller items we had left out in our small bags, and then putting those in larger bags, then in the cupboard. We found this incredibly intrusive and needed to repack to find everything. I requested the candles be returned and she gave back less than half.

We rented electric scooters the day before we checked out and rather than charge them in the common breakfast area we carried them upstairs to the room. We removed them as we were checking out and Blanca began abusing us in the common area of the accommodation, with other guests present, saying she had bent over backwards to accommodate us and we had been trouble ever since we arrived. She then attempted to inspect the room with the intent of "charging us for damages" without us present. It took us filming her outburst for her to calm down and allow one of us to observe this "inspection".

Our stay at Villa Birdie was the worst either of us has ever experienced in serviced accommodation. Considering how comprehensively she handled our belongings it is very likely she does this with every guest and it felt as though we were there to experience the stay that she wanted, not the one we did. Her aggressive outburst on check out was disgusting and I would recommend travellers avoid this spot unless they enjoy being controlled by an unhinged host who enjoys sifting through possessions.

This is a pleasant hotel, with nice rooms but it is definitely not worth the price charged. The rooms are clean (ignoring the large cobweb in the corner of the bathroom), the beds are comfortable. There is a large TV, but it only offers Spanish channels; for the price of this place, you would expect at least some international/internet channels such as Netflix to be provided. It has clearly been expensively interiorly designed, with lots of fragile objects waiting to be knocked off surfaces on to very shiny marble floors. There is a small pool outside which is a bit overlooked but no more than in most hotels.

The breakfast is fine but there are no choices offered: it is orange juice, followed by a rather flabby almond croissant (microwaved), then a selection of fruit on a plate and finally two pieces of toast, one with Serrano ham on, one with an omelette on, plus a piece of cheese. There is no attempt to find out preferences or allergies. One beverage is offered and as breakfast is only served between 9-10 (hard luck if you want to leave earlier), there is only one person doing all the serving and everyone wants to eat at 9, the chances of having a second cup are small. If you try to help yourself to the coffee machine (as one guest did), you will be told off by the owner, Blanca. Not what would be expected for over 220 Euros/night.

In fact, the hotel seems to be run to suit the whims and convenience of Blanca. It is clear that she finds guests a bit of an imposition and I’m pretty certain that she trained at the Basil Fawlty School of Hotel Management and Charm. She does try to be pleasant but can’t quite disguise that she finds everyone really a bit of an irritant. This hotel does not deserve the label of a boutique luxury establishment.

It doesn’t happen very often that we walk into a strangers house and feel at home. However: this was the case when we entered Villa Birdie. This excellent boutique hotel has it all: beautiful rooms, tasteful design, good quality furniture, a spotless garden, a great swimming pool, parking and a fridge with free beer and soft drinks. There’s even a wheelchair-friendly entrance and an elevator if needed. But what makes this place probably the best place we’ve ever stayed in is Blanca, a fantastic host with a warm personality that goes to great lengths to make your stay as pleasant as possible. She reads her guests and gives them personalized insider tips. We liked it so much that, not only did we stay longer than planned, but came back a week later just because it was so great. Me and my partner run a boutique hotel ourselves, so we know what effort it takes to manage a place like this and keep up such a high standard. We can safely say Blanca is a natural: the kind of person you ‘d wish every hotel would have, someone you feel a connection with from the first second, and feel sad to leave when you check out. We’ve read all the reviews and to be honest: the couple of negative ones are so off the mark they basically tell you all you need to know about the people who wrote them. Yes: the host is a colorful, kind hearted character. And that’s one of the many, many reasons we like Villa Birdie so much. We’ll definitely be back!

Much love from Bart & Eva, the Belgians from Antwerp :-)

Perfect place to stay in San Sebastián, very short bus journey to the boulevard/new town and old town and very cheap! The villa itself was very chic and very comfortable with beautiful decor throughout. Blanca, the owner couldn’t have been more helpful with recommendations of what to do in the city and provided a map of the best routes and the best places to eat, her English was brilliant. Breakfast was gorgeous consisting of 4 different courses and refills if necessary! Would really recommend this area and this villa!

It's a long story but I really want to say that after spending 2 hours at this hotel trying to be checked in, the hotelier threw us out!!! In Spanish she called me a 'lady of the night' she ranted at us and our friends and, although she promised to refund all the money she did not. She ruined our holiday.

We finally got a daily consumer radio show to take up our case and he hit the nail on the head when he said 'this hotelier seems to be a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde - if she likes you she can't do enough, but if she takes a dislike to you she is very unpleasant - she should not be running a hotel'.

So stay away from Villa Birdie.

Villa Birdie is a special place to stay. More like staying in a friend's beautiful home. Cannot recommend too highly. Blanca is one of life's diamonds! She will enhance your stay with her knowledge and recommendations. Everything is immaculate and the pool and outside space is beautiful. The food and recommendations in the town were fabulous. The local wine and pinxtos are superb. A wonderful stay with a beautiful, generous and magical host. Thank you Blanca.

I stayed at Villa Birdie on early this year and the hotel was very nice. Everything we needed and expected was there. The host was very friendly and helped us with some issued that we had. Very good stay.

I did my reservation with United Airlines miles. Before arriving I had to make a change in the reservation and did not notice that after making the change I was going to lose all the miles I had spent in my original reservation. After returning home I noticed that the miles were not credited to my account and it is then when I noticed that I had lost them. I proceeded to contact the owner to see if she could help me but she did not answer my calls, blocked me on whatsapp and did not answer my emails. Very dissapointed that I have to write this message.
