Just back from a four day trip to Palma de Mallorca, where we based ourselves at the HM Balanguera hotel. The staff were all charming, and the hotel suited us perfectly – being an easy 20 minutes stroll to all the city’s attractions.
The building is very attractive, with some rather lovely interior architectural features, not dissimilar to that of seen in the work of Antoni Guadí and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It certainly worth taking the stairs rather than the lift, to appreciate the irregular sizes and positions of its windows, plus the integration of the lighting in the common areas.
Our room, on the third floor, was a generous size. It contained a super king-size bed. The room window was framed by shelves with baskets for clothes and a mini-fridge on one side, and a hanging rail with ample hangers and a safe deposit box on the other. A desk with two chairs lined the bottom of the window. No curtains, by the way. Wooden shutters instead.
A partition wall separated the sleeping area from the washing space of a sink with mirrors, plus a hairdryer. The toilet and tile-lined shower room, with rain-forest shower, were both accessed through a separate door.
If you like light switches, then this is your hotel. There were light switches for just about everything – recessed LEDs, bedside lights, wardrobe lights, main down-lighters, wash space light, bathroom lights. At times this felt excessive, especially when a couple of switches could’ve probably have controlled everything. We also felt that some instructions in the room on how to use the room’s air conditioning controls would have been beneficial. We found the temperature occasionally too warm, but were unable to make the air conditioning produce cool air.
The hotel’s foyer, lounge and dining area is very cool and contemporary. The complimentary breakfast had something for everyone, and we certainly didn’t go hungry. In addition we used the hotel’s bar service on a couple of evenings for a nightcap, when other bars in the surrounding area weren’t open.
We did venture up to the small roof terrace with its plunge pool, but as the weather wasn’t particularly sunny during our stay, we didn’t find a need to use these facilities.
My last thought is about the hotel’s location. Before booking this hotel I read several reviews that complained about the traffic noise. What do people expect? City centres can be busy, noisy places. Both my boyfriend and I own apartments in Edinburgh city centre, and we certainly didn’t have any problems with noise levels at this hotel. In fact, we found the roads to be quieter at night time, than where we live. Remember, if you want peace and tranquility then book a country hotel.
Thanks HM Balanguera, we enjoyed our stay with you. And we would certainly consider staying with you again on our next visit to Palma de Mallorca.

My mum (81) and I (55) stayed at the HM Balanguera in Palma on a 4 night city break in February 2025. The hotel is modern, stylish & quirky and very clean. We stayed in a junior suit, room 308, which was very large and comfortable and had a big balcony too. The beds were comfortable, there were toiletries, robes & slippers provided and we had air con, 2 TVs & a free safe. The staff were all lovely and friendly and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast was great with lots of choice and although there is no restaurant in the hotel, they will order food in for you from local restaurants. Drinks were generous measures and very reasonable too. We didn't use the pool but it looked a lovely plunge pool on the rooftop terrace with loungers/tables & chairs in the sun and shade as well as vending machines. The hotel is in a good location, about 15-20 minutes walk to the old town/cathedral/train station. I highly recommend this hotel.

HM Balanguera is situated just 10mins walk from the centre of Palma in a quiet area. The staff are very friendly and the reception and breakfast are bright, clean & inviting. We stayed in a junior suite which was perfect for our stay with a large bed, double sink, wet/room shower and separate toilet. Two flat screen TVs allowed us to watch tv in bed but also in the small lounge. Complimentary mini bar was a bonus and is fully stocked on arrival but not replenished. There was a sun terrace with sunbed which was nice to get some fresh air and would be fantastic in summer. Breakfast was superb with fresh scrambled egg, bacon and the usual continental offerings. Pastries were amazing and fresh juice and coffee. Fresh and vibrant setting for breakfast. Some fantastic restaurants just 10mins walk and also only 10 mins to city centre and train station as Soller is a must visit. There is a pool on the top floor and drinks can be ordered at reception, no bar as such. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine one afternoon after a walk for only €6.

The best thing about this hotel among many things is the attention they offer you, Natalia and her real companions who do everything to make it a magnificent experience, very good their attention and customer service. The rooms very different than any other hotel but it is super good everything from size , comfort and cleanliness. An excellent detail is that the things you find in the bar are free the first time. The location is 12 minutes from the center walked but the truck passes through the corner of the hotel and takes you to the center also for 2 euros. Highly recommended.

The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the center of Palma, in a predominantly residential and quiet area. In the structure, perfectly tidy and cared for, you can breathe a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The room, furnished with style, is really equipped with all the necessary comforts. The common areas are really nice. The breakfast was also particularly well taken care of. Beautiful roof terrace, although I found the solarium / pool area really small and particularly congested. Friendly and helpful staff. If I have to find a fault, the room was not particularly bright, overlooking another building, but it is understandable, given the location. I am often in the Palma area, I will definitely consider the hotel for the future!

Wonderful hotel. Room very comfortable bed and super shower. Everything you could need Inc pool towels, Kettle & ironing board (small refundable deposit) and complimentary drinks provided first night (in mini bar). Breakfast excellent value - continental and hot food provided. It’s possible to hire bikes if you fancy exploring via the comprehensive cycle routes across the city. Walk 15 mins down towards the Port and experience the bars and restaurants in Calle de Fabrica - buzzy and great choice! Ask for the croquettes at Cosmopolis - delicious!

Just arrived back from Palma having stopped at the HM Balenguera, the only tiny issue we could have with the hotel was its location, it is approx. 20-minute walk to the front, though this is along one straight road all the way down, though this was part of why we chose it but it was perhaps slightly further than we had thought, though you can walk half down then take a left which will take you on to Jaime 111 avenue which takes you straight into the heart of the city. Other than that the hotel and its staff were fantastic, we couldn't fault anything, the breakfast was good and in a communal style, non-formal setting which was great, all the usual options, cereals, cold meats, cheese, bread, hot food, pastries, tea, coffee, etc. Other reviews complain about the rooms, we did find some of the issues that people mentioned, limited storage, etc. but this certainly didn't bother us nor ruin our holiday we just dealt with it. The hotel is a modern take on traditional Spanish cave houses, so all the lines are soft and round as though sculpted from stone, with solid white walls the pool is small, which we were informed of by reception at check-in, personally if you wanted a hotel with a proper pool, etc. you wouldn't be looking at this hotel in this location, maybe something more towards the harbor. When checking out we asked if reception could order us a taxi for 8.30 which they did without hesitation, the taxi was at the door at 8.35, which was perfect and not under the control of the hotel, all in all, I would highly recommend the HM Balenguera and would definitely stop there again if we were to return to Palma. Muchos gracias to all the staff for making our stay so wonderful.

Great boutique hotel in palma, 10 min walk from palma centre and about 15-20 mins from the airport. Staff were friendly on arrival and we were able to check in earlier which was great after an early flight. Room was lovely, clean and spacious with a small balcony and some free drinks in the mini fridge. It was cleaned daily too. You could pay for breakfast for €10 each which had a good selection. There was also a very small supermarket a few doors down the road too to get cheaper drinks from as the drinks at reception weren’t the cheapest. The rooftop pool area was lovely but very small and only about 8 sun loungers so we only had 1 day here. You could order food by the pool which was a good selection. Illetas beach was a 20 min taxi journey and was absolutely amazing, definitely recommend.

HM Balanguera is a good hotel. It's located in a relatively calm street, with no much traffic. It's not in the very center of the city of Palma, but nevertheless the distance between the two points concerned isn't too long, and going on foot from one to the other turns up a nice walk. The hotel is very well decorated, particularly the lobby. It's very cosy thanks to being decorated with much taste. The breakfast room is somewhat special, There is a big table in the middle, at which all the guests having breakfast sit down and talk between themselves should the occasion arise. It's a nice way to associate with other people. The weak point as regards this room is that it's close to the kitchen, both rooms communicating with each other through a door. Most of time the door is open so that one can hear the yelling of the women working at the hotel. I used to close the door but it was again opened and thus we had to bear the said disturbance again. Another nuisance is the awful music played at breakfast time. Once I asked the receptionist kindly to reduce its volume. He was more than kind to stop the music completely, for which I was very grateful to him. The breakfast, by the way, is very good and abundant. Everything is of an excellent quality except the orange juice, which tastes too bad as to doubt on its artificial nature. The bedroom is quite peaceful and comfortable. I had a good stay at the hotel thanks to that. I hardly heard any noise while in the room. The bed is very comfy, it having a mattress with the right toughness for ensuring a good rest. And in the room there is everything needed for satisfying the necessities of the guests. I asked for a kettle and they kindly provided me with one. The staff members are all very kind and helpful. They do at every moment whatever possible to ensure that the guests feel as well as possible during their stay at the hotel. The hotel concerned is therefore a good place to stay in Palma de Mallorca, and one I would absolutely recommend to everyone wishing to have a pleasant and relaxing stay on the island.

Comfortable and clean. It is in a residential area, walking distance to supermarket, park, local coffee shops and restaurants. The tourist area is reached on foot in 15 minutes. The nearest stop for the A1 bus to the airport is about 8 minutes walk. The room has a small fridge and they can heat up food in the microwave if needed. They may also provide a tea kettle and a normal size chair if needed (the standard chair is rather small). For a longer stay the breakfast may become boring as it is always the same. However, there is a nice little bakery a couple of doors down (and they also prepare sandwiches), and across the street on the corner there is a place for coffee.
