Lovely staff, room was basic but clean with a lovely balcony overlooking the garden . Our booking confirmation stated that the restaurant would be closed at the weekend , we stayed on a Wednesday night but there was no restaurant open for evening meal which was disappointing, only for breakfast , which was excellent with plenty of choice . Sadly... More

We elected to use this hotel for the second year running as a night stop following our ferry trip from UK. The hotel staff were very welcoming and a welcome beer was taken in the evening sun in the lovely hotel grounds. Our room was comfortable, well equipped, if a little dated. This year we had a room at the... More

The rooms are spacious if a little quirky; ours had a large pillar in the middle of it. The hotel is on a hill set in attractive grounds. We had a view across the apartment blocks to distant mountains and a balcony outside our window with a table, chairs and umbrella; just the place for a beer from the minibar!... More

An old character building which successfully converted to a small hotel where I spent 2 nights. I asked for and got a quiet room at the back facing the garden. Good sized room and bathroom which we were very clean. Good bed with good white cotton sheets. Yes, the wooden floors are a little creaky but it is part of... More

We stayed here just one night having got off the ferry in the early evening. The receptionist was friendly and spoke good English. Rooms were very spacious with excellent en-suite (very strong smell of furniture polish everywhere but that's not really a criticism!) It's sited in a fairly uninspiring residential area, though the bedrooms have distant sea views) but it's... More

We found this hotel comfortable with spacious room and well appointed en suite. Staff were welcoming. Breakfast was good with plenty of variety. Private car parking was a real bonus as was the surrounding garden. Unfortunately we were not visiting during term time so were not able to partake of the evening meal. However we enjoyed our 15 minute walk... More

TomTom sat nav failed to find the hotel but Google maps got us there. Although simple, our room was spacious and comfortable. Had it been sunny, we would have enjoyed relaxing on the terrace outside our room, looking at the mountains. Huddling against the rain was not so attractive! We walked into town for dinner and had an easy trip... More

We randomly chose this hotel as we needed a stop over before catching the ferry. OK to find by satnav, seems strange to drive through tiny residential streets though. Plenty of parking on site. Hotel has a colonial look about it. Inside there's 2 floors of rooms, 13 rooms in total, split between front and back. Front rooms would be... More

What a find this hotel was. A training college for young people who want to join the hospitality trade. A great restaurant with a fabulous 22 euro lunch menu. The attention to detail was excellent as was the presentation and service. The rooms are all very clean and comfortable and lovely and warm. Will definitely come bAck.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Las Carolinas Hotel-School is located within a plot of land with the same name, "Las Carolinas", and is managed by the Cantabrian Hotel and Catering Business Association. Young catering students and chefs are trained here. It occupies a XIX century restored mansion which has 500m2 gardens with two splendid magnolias and a thousand-year-old yew, among other specimens. It subsists in a truly rural environment within the city. Las Carolinas Hotel-School is also located at the top of a hill with spectacular views of Santander and is only 10 minutes away walking distance from the city centre. The Hotel School Project aims to endow the catering and hotel industry with qualified personnel. It seeks to do so by training professionals within the industry's different fields of work. All of the association's training activities are gathered within this single space. These training programmes have been designed to be both theoretical and practical, focusing on kitchen, dining room and hotel management. In order to offer adequate training, there is nothing better than a training centre where students can put the theory they have previously learnt into practice. The main building has thus been turned into a small hotel with 13 rooms and a dining room with a capacity for 40. It operates as a conventional hotel and catering business. The rooms at the Hotel School are decorated in s simple manner, with light wooden furniture and floors. They are all equipped with two beds or a double-bed, a desk, central heating, a bath, a hairdryer and amenities. To start the day off, a full buffet breakfast is also included within our accommodation price. During the academic period, a menu is offered at lunch time which includes an appetizer, a first course and a second course. On Thursday and Friday evenings we prepare a sampling menu. All meals must be booked in advance. All the services at the hotel school are offered by industry students and workers, with a special focus on personalization and quality. ... more   less
