WOW...Just loved it. The reception staff were just so good, even took our car keys and parked the car for us and then proceeded to give us a run down of the facilities of the hotel and then the key attractions of the city.
The room was perfect with a huge comfortable bed, a sofa and coffee table and water and biscuits in the room as well as tea and coffee making facilities. The room looked out over the gardens and roof of the monastery next door, and for us simple folk, one of the highlights of this wonderful place was watching storks building their nests on the towers of the monastery. The breakfasts were very good with both hot and cold buffet and to order eggs and the restaurant food was very good although a bit expensive for what it was.
The city itself was just outstanding. The old and new cathedral visit is definitely worth doing and do try to find the spaceman and the dragon eating an icecream on the tympanum. (A clue, - the spaceman is on the left and the dragon on the right).
The Plaza Mayor is stunning and includes a sculpture by a Chinese artist (Xu
Hongfei) which brings a smile to everyones face (especially those youngsters taking selfies in front of it). One of the Palaces in the city has a whole range of his work which should not be misssed. This is definitely a city to revisit.

I rarely find a hotel so outstanding that I am left with warm memories that I will associate with Salamanca. The hotel’s interiors have a clean but not minimalist line. The architect has taken a 16th C monastery that had long been abandoned and wrought a gracious and warm interior. The rooms are not large but there was room in mine for a sofa and large glass table at the end of the bed.

I was also fortunate to have a view of not only the monastery church nearby but also of the cathedral in the distance. Not all rooms have such a view of course but those on the 3rd and 4th floors of the back building should be uplifting. The front desk facilitated an early check in as soon as a room was available which I greatly appreciated. I should add that the room was absolutely quiet as the hotel is located In a pocket where only historical buildings closed at night embrace it.

I’d encourage you to consider getting the breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant ( which also serves dinner). The buffet is laden with about anything you can think of, eggs can be ordered, and they bring individual cups of coffee, cappuccino, cafe con leche, or tea as often as you want.

Finally I would be remiss not to include kudos and appreciation for the staff who were uniformly professional yet also friendly and helpful. This makes the Palacio stand out from its competitors. English, French, and Italian ( by a terrific front desk staffer) are spoken, if not all by everyone , so it is easy to move through whatever stage of the day you are at without delay.

I always make sure to include mention of any shortcomings so the review can be truly balanced. In truth I can honestly not think of one for the Palacio making it a rare experience to remember.

Don’t pass this up. You will regret it.

We’ve been to some superb hotels around the world but I can’t remember being made more welcome from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The hotel is just inside the old city and you drive into the courtyard, are immediately greeted and your car valeted. Paulinho has to be the nicest and most knowledge guys I’ve ever met at a hotel and we’ve been to a lot! Immediately made us welcome, gave us an immediate orientation to the area so we are able to make full use of exploring the area while on our short stay. Recommending restaurants and once back from exploring ringing up so we could get a table in prime position. Breakfast was in an amazing setting and very high standard. We will be back for longer!

We stayed for 3 nights during festival week in Salamanca. We’d selected this hotel based on reviews, because we both like an old building and some history, thought this looked attractive, thought we might use the swimming pool, and wanted to treat ourselves to a bit of luxury. We came from having stayed in a beautiful hotel in Segovia , the also 5* Eurostars Aurea Convento de Capuchinos, were greeted at reception and then shown to a small rather plain room with low ceilings and were told that as we were staying 3 nights they’d given us an upgrade to a room with cathedral views. We were really disappointed - an upgrade to a rather claustrophobic plain room with a low ceiling, tiny windows and not a very good cathedral view you could only see by bending down a bit. The room was okay ish but def not what I’d call superior or good enough for a standard. This is a 5 star hotel! It’s not cheap for Spain and we’ve stayed in much nicer rooms in 3 star hotels. We asked to change rooms, said it didn’t match pictures or descriptions on booking.com (which I’ve just noticed have now changed to be more accurate) or their website eg it def wasn’t 27 square metres; we were offered the only other room, a standard family room, not beautiful but much more spacious and better overall though the guy we dealt with still insisted it was a lower category than the first. Appreciate that they changed it but we are well travelled, have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels and we are not stupid! The Breakfast room was pleasant, and breakfast was nice with lots of choice, I wasn’t a fan of the rather plain decor in other communal areas, and in the end got a cold and didn’t get to use the pool anyway. Peeking into some other rooms they seem to have a huge disparity in size, detail etc. Overall, we’ve stayed in much nicer places. It def didn’t feel like a 5 star hotel or experience… and we should have saved a bit and stayed at the NH collection hotel down the road. We then went on to stay at the Parador in Avila, which was also much nicer. Salamanca is lovely though, well worth a visit.

This hotel is in a fantastic location, just a short distance from the cathedral and all the other beautiful monuments in this stunning city. The staff couldn't be more helpful and attentive. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the beds are like a dream. The restaurant is excellent. We had lunch here yesterday and are having dinner tonight. The courtyard restaurant is dreamy with the smell of flowers and twinkling fairy lights in the olive tree. The cosmetics in the rooms are lovely too. Actually, I am in heaven. I thoroughly recommend this gorgeous hotel.

We stayed here one night en route through Spain to Gaucin. We drove into the courtyard and safely parked our car easily under the direction of very friendly staff. We had a spacious suite with a delightful view of the old town and enjoyed a delicious tasting menu in the restaurant with an incredible and unusual wine which we were guided to by the attentive and friendly waiter. The restaurant setting is stunning and the building is typical of the high standards offered by the Hopes group of hotels and reconfirmed that we will stay in them whenever we can. Already booked into one in Seville and Cordoba having previously stayed in the one in Valencia. They are excellent and good value for the quality offered.

This is one of many 5 star hotels in the downtown core. We chose it based on Trip advisor reviews. This was our first time in Salamanca and we were looking for that exceptional experience. We were staying only 1 night on our one month driving tour of Spain. We were disappointed for a number of reasons. 1. The room temperature was too hot. My husband asked how to adjust it to cool it down. He was told to shut off the thermostat and open the windows. The heating and cooling is controlled centrally, He declined the offer to switch rooms because we weren’t sure it would be any better. We had to sleep with the windows open, We hadn’t taken into consideration that our room was overlooking the restaurant and street. The noise from the street and the birds chirping, made it difficult for my hubby to sleep. 2. The room was a bit dated. No Bidet. No towel warming rack. We couldn’t get the safe to work, Unusual for a 5 star hotel. 3. On check in, we were given the names of a few restaurants they recommended. After settling in and doing our review of menus, we decided to go for lunch at Origens. We asked at the front desk if they’d call to make a reservation for us at1-1:30. We were told to merely walk to the restaurant and show up because “no one eats at that time. It’s 2pm that things get busy.” This was not one person at the desk telling us this, but a few. We did. Only to find out that the restaurant was closed for a special event that was to take place later that night. We chose a place for lunch based on the number people eating on the patio. A tourist trap with aweful food as it happened. We left Salamanca disappointed. Maybe the VW rental car we had made some of the staff at this hotel think we didn’t belong. We left the Mercedes at home.

This hotel makes guests feel special. Staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. The rooms are great and fully equipped with mini bar, flat TV, tea coffee making facilities, bottled water and bathroom essentials. The restaurant food is exceptional ( although a bit expensive) . The terrace and restaurant are lovely. I’ve stayed here before and it’s my favourite hotel by far in Salamanca partly because of its location close to the cathedral and old town, on site parking is another bonus.

Great location only a few minutes easy walking access into the old city.
Stayed for one night on our way down to the Algarve and two nights on the way back allowing us to explore Salamanca.
Easily accessible hotel by car with valet parking which allows best use of the available space dependant upon your length of stay.
Hotel has been beautifully restored and all the circulation areas and rooms are well maintained. Rooms are well presented with comfortable beds, nice quality linen and soft towels.
Shower was good with immediate supply of hot water to both basins and shower. Only design issue with the bathroom is the shower discharges partly onto an internal window cill which ponds as there is no fall towards the bath. No doubt issues will arise in future with the decay of the lower part of the window frame.
The breakfast was exceptional with a large choice of both hot and cold items. Orders are taken for the hot items with the remainder being buffet service.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay the only issue we had was regarding water.
Upon arrival on both our stays we found bottled water provided in the rooms. On our second visit after the room had been serviced we found the water had not been replenished. I went down to reception and enquired whether water was provided on subsequent days but was told by the chap that it was not. I therefore went out to purchase bottled water for our use.
Upon checking out the following morning we were greeted by a friendly lady who we raised the issue of water with and were immediately handed some bottles of water to take with us.
Would really recommend this hotel but suggest you have some water in the car if stopping for more than one night to avoid a walk into town. Alternatively wait for a nice friendly lady who is on duty on reception before you enquire about water.
Would have given a 5 if we hadn’t had the water issue.
