Stayed here as part of a work event for a couple of days. The views from the rooms are amazing as you are at the end of Barcelonetta beach and have an unobstructed view along the entire beach and back to the old town and beyond. However the location of the hotel is a bit out of the way so it is not very close (1.5 kms+) to any metro station or the main sights. There is a bus (number 19) very close by which travels close to the old town and other sights or the other options are to take taxis (readily available outside) or walk. We took a taxi from the airport (about 20mins) as local transport would have taken over an hour with multiple changes. Rooms were a good size with comfy beds and all the services you would expect. The one downside is the odd toilet/shower arrangement which are essentially glass cubicles in the room. There was little privacy and you can easily see the silouette of your companion when they are in the shower or on the toilet. Probably not the best option of you don't know each other so very well and want to keep some of the mystery alive! Breakfast was excellent with a good range of options in the buffet. I would avoid going too late as that is when it is very busy and feels a little cramped.

I read in the press in the UK how bad Barcelona is for Covid and was expecting the wild west when I landed.

I spent last week in London where frankly you would think, from the way people act, that Covid doesn't exist. No one wears masks and rarely distance.

In the hotel and throughout Barcelona mask wearing is compulsory and there are hand sanitising stations everywhere. Everyone on the streets of Barcelona are far more aware of this disease than in the UK.

I feel safe in Barcelona and super safe in this hotel. They could not be more aware of or prepared for covid.

If you want to travel somewhere and feel safe the W would be a fantastic choice.

With the strange world we have all lived in over the prior few months we decided to take a small chance and take a trip to Barcelona once allowed by our Government. We chose The W in Barcelona once we undertook some research of the Post Covid processes they had in place.

Heathrow and BA offered a first calls service to get us there and Barcelona Airport smooth even with the extra checks.

Upon arrival we were greeted and directed by a member of staff. At the front desk the rules (low level) we explained to us. The hotel had been opened 10 days earlier and we checked in and directed to our rooms which were spotless. They were also cleaned superbly per each day and room service throughout was swift and without complication.

Breakfast we still a buffet but with more items wrapped and certain aspects / stations overseen by staff. Managed really well. The same can be said about dinner in the hotel where the food was excellent and staff more than hopeful.

The pool area (the Wet Deck" had an abundance of staff all of whom could not do enough and Dmitri needs shout out. Thank you for your help.

We also arranged several restaurants out of the hotel all of whom had excellent processes in place and thank you Carla for some suggestions and coordinating.

Overall and 100% success and recommended until the clamp down from the UK that followed. Great hotel, great location and excellent staff.

The location is fabulous, our sea view room was absolutely stunning, the bed comfy, great touches with the likes of a Bose speaker, premium toiletries. We went to Eclipse on the 26th floor, great views, good drinks and a surplus of nibbles to offset our good cocktails. An average round for 2 drinks was high but having lived in London expected it.

It was only on checkout when presented with the bill for a G&T and a singular cocktail which we’d had upon our return from dinner which hit £38 (yes £ not €) I felt I’d been mugged in broad daylight.

There’s definitely a pretentious vibe and if you’re cool with that then absolutely crack on, we can certainly handle. Just perhaps carry a pocket flask or get your kicks elsewhere unless you want to take a small mortgage out for a panoramic, ice cold, fruity glass

Great hotel which lived up to expectations. We booked to stay here pre Covid so waited a year and a half to finally take our trip. The room was simply amazing. We did upgrade to a sea view and it was breathtaking. Rooms are well equipped and also had the best shower I’ve ever used!

Staff were all very friendly, great service and very welcoming. Particular mention for Monica on the concierge desk who was brilliant and even remembered our names which made us feel so special.

We tried some of the food (lunch by the pool, by the beach and room service breakfast). All the food was tasty and though it’s a little pricey (as you’d expect) the portions were big.

Alcoholic drinks were quite good value for the location but they do sting you with the soft drinks prices.

The facilities were all great. We used the pools, beach, gym and spa. You have to book ahead for the spa but it is amazing. One thing I would say is that the spa should be for over 16s only. We unfortunately had to share our spa experience with 4 children who did not stick to the rules regarding max occupants and were very noisy. Not relaxing at all!

Be prepared to either walk a bit or get taxis as the nearest metro station is quite far from the hotel due to its location. However, it is the location that really makes it!

I would really recommend this hotel as a place to stay for a treat or special occasion. I hope that one day I can return. Thank you!

HOTEL - SPAIN ⭐️⭐️⭐️_ _

When we arrived for the weekend we found the hotel extremely busy, check in was a bit of a drag with a large queue. We eventually checked in and we were pointed towards the lift.

Our suite was really nice with a great view, electric blinds, mini bar, tv, music etc basically everything you would need. We had breakfast in the upstairs restaurant, I thought it was very badly organised, after a good half hour wait my poached eggs came more like hard boiled, so we left. We had lunch every day at the beech side restaurant, they served burgers, nachos etc, good food but quite expensive for what it was.

The pool areas were very busy and we struggled to find sun loungers during the weekend so we sat on the hotels private beech. This area had its own security guard who walked up and down patrolling the small area, this made it difficult to relax as we were always on edge thinking we were going to get robbed, due to the Barcelona reputation. There’s graffiti all over Barcelona, they even have it all over the rocks in front of the hotel.

At the front and rear of the hotel it’s surrounded by kids on skateboards, maybe a good 15/25 of them every night, they don’t cause any problems, it just wasn’t what I was expecting.

All in all it’s a party style hotel, nice but not 5 star standard.

I wouldn’t be in a hurry to go back.

The atmosphere is miserable; We were approached by a Dohrman the front of the hotel who was aggressive and said to us ‘What do you want and Who are you’. Frankly I was shocked to be treated so terribly; the service at the restaurant was only moderately better. We waited 15 minutes after being seated for someone to take our order.

We ordered our drinks and informed the wait staff that we were ready to order our food then we to waited another 15 minutes before a waiter would take our order.

As we were staying in the hotel we went up to the pool; the wait staff by the pool were exceedingly prompt in serving us and giving our drinks to us. Call Heather at the end of our first day by the pool they charged us €54 for a ‘Wet Pass’. This fee is normally charged to people who are not guests at the hotel and want to use the pool. However we were staying in the hotel and therefore should not have been charged this fee.

Finally; our son (21 years old) who was staying in another room met a girl at a bar and invited her back to his room only to be told by the hotel security that he was not allowed to have a guest in his room. His guest was 22 years old and he is 21 years old the relations between them were consensual. What on earth were these people thinking????

The W Barcelona is an iconic building in one of my favourite cities in the world. Stunning. And of course Instagram friendly (what isn’t). I would approach booking here with a little caution keeping in mind that the hotel is rated 5 star; we checked into our room to find it unclean, and certainly not ready for new guests (pillows everywhere, hair EVERYWHERE). Our luggage was missing - that’s OK, and fixable, because the staff here really do want to help - we were upgraded which was much appreciated. In our new room a simple touch such as a do not disturb sign was still missing, not terribly inconvenient, but still. In the bar you will wait a long time to get served; it is understaffed which is not the fault of those working here but a 35 minute wait to be served seems a little taxing. I would return with caution (the key word here!) there are some great deals to be had at The W and via BA - just know it isn’t perfect and you will be fine. In summer months I’m sure it’s incredible but can only imagine that an in season stay would only present further issues with the hotel at full capacity. While writing this I’m also looking at a promotional video for the group which features predominantly white, privileged and extremely skinny people. I would urge the group to reconsider this too. We can all be a little better (and realistic) Not in any way the worst experience just not the best.

We chose this hotel for its incredible view of course, just amazing over the whole city! That was the best thing! The service is ok too, but far from being a true luxury hotel, 4star max.
First, the parking, the exit/entrance to the parking is not of a luxury hotel, it`s super basic.
Then, the rooms. Really weird glass doors for the toilet and sink with no doors, small towels, no toothpaste/toothbrush kit (which you get even in a 3-star hotel). But again, the view is just incredible!
The complimentary cava bottle was nice, although it costs like 5 euros in Mercadona, and that for a 350 euros room? Come on guys, you can do better!
The spa. I`d say it was overcrowded, there were 4 couples at the same time but most of the time was spent in the jacuzzi which is too small for so many people. The big pool was really cold! Impossible to get into the water! Totally unacceptable for a 5star hotel.
As for the breakfast, I`d like to highlight that the orange juice that was offered was NOT freshly squeezed! But for sure it was with water and sugar added, didn't taste like an orange fresh at all! Again, not good for a 5 star.
Finally, the checkout experience was bad, too many people and spent like 20 min a queue. Again, are you are a 5-star luxury hotel or what?
To sum up, I can say that we enjoyed our stay mostly because of the most amazing views in Barcelona (literally spent most of our time by the window). Lots of things to improve to become a real 5 star!

This is one of my first reviews generally (always) if I have ever had a bad experience with a hotel it is quickly sorted out with the team on site, however this is not the case here, the majority of staff are extremely rude, to the point where I had to ask the staff to provide an apology for the bad experience we were having.

We decided to stay in a wow suite at over €4000, expecting it to be "wow", however the only thing that was "wow" was how apparent this room should have been made out of service.

Both showers were unusable one without hot water and the other with a broken door, the room was dirty, spa broken, light switches/phones broken unusable, but most disturbing the shower was covered in mould, which I kindly asked multiple times to have cleaned, to which it was not done.

It wasn't until I went to reception in the afternoon where I was met by Andrea, who nothing but short of blasted me for even asking for a new room which didn't have as many issues and a clean shower, as if I was crazy! To which I asked to speak to her manager Marta, who thankfully sorted the issue of the mould out by sending a lovely housekeeper up, however as with the common theme in this hotel showed no remorse for our situation.

Bell staff are a mixed bag, on arrival they were great, however some can be really rude, rooms do not appear to be cleaned thoroughly and they seem to have a shortage of towels as after multiple request for more towels they still seem to only leave 1 for a room of 4? Spa staff were great!

The hotel does not deserve more than 3 stars in its current state and with, especially does not deserve its GL status at the end of its rating, due to the lack of upkeep of the building, lobby often leaks when its raining and rooms run down and not maintained/ cleaned.

I do believe that if time is spent on re-training or training staff to being with, and better maintenance of the rooms and common areas is undertaken the hotel can really return to what it could/ used to be/
