i know its long - please read all! we had to call the police because the owner was so crazy! we stayed there late july 2011, when we arrived to the place we saw a tiny disguasting door with graffiti on it - thats the entrance. we had to go up 2 levels of old stairs (no lift) with our...

We stayed here in the middle of summer and could not sleep. It was 29 degrees inside the room and 26 outside. Our room was 4m x 4m and the only window was about 90cm x 30cm. This would have been livable if there was air con but we only had a fan and felt this wasn't enough in the...

It is located centrally. The building it's located in is quite bleak but I guess that is part of the price. The hostel itself is very brightly decorated. There were however endless rules, signs and the extra costs added up so much as to bump up the price. We had to pay for each family member to use the kitchen...

Because there are excellent rules such as: No smoking, no noise after 11PM, etc, everything goes well for ALL guests. Our hostess and host, Nuria and Mario, treated us like family. The rooms are small but well-designed/maintained as is the entire establishment, from the baths to the kitchen to the reception area, to the computer room. Laundry service(loved that), tourist...

The owners seem to have a cleaning frenzy that has gone totally wild, everything that has not been recently cleaned and nicely organized is looked upon with suspicion and notes all over the hostel exclaim how dirty travellers are. There are fines for staining the linen, the pillow cases, for taking showers over 7 minutes, smoking anywhere near the hostel...

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighbourhood Profile
Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.

“Rooms are very small, tiny I would say. Be prepared to pay extra for use of the kitchen (2 EUR per person), for towels, for bed linen. There was only one electric socket in our room (Nr.6) - which is rather problematic if you have one notebook, two cameras and two iPhones to charge.”

“We had a room facing the inside wall of the building, and it was always very dark in the room. But if you get a room facing the street - it should be too noisy at night. So, choose the inconvenience you prefer :)”
