Montserrat Abbey is set in an awesome position in the mountains above Barcelona. The apartments are functional, comfortable and very good value. This is not (nor is it supposed to be) five star/super service/luxurious, but if you embrace the concept and all that the surroundings have to offer, you will have a wonderful stay.

Older hotel but you could not pick a better location. Once all the tours leave around 6pm, it is very peaceful until 0900 the next morning when the tourists start to trickle in again. The windows in our room both opened wide for an amazing view of the monastery plaza and the mountains and valley beyond. The hotel also has...

This is a great place to stay while in Montserrat. It may be a 3 star property, but that doesn't matter. To be here , at night, open the windows and hear the bells, as well as take in the beauty, is worth not having the comfort of a 5 star property. The reason I give this property a 3...

I stayed here recently for 5 days as part of a retreat organized by Alternatives form London. Prior to coming here I read some of the reviews and in the end my experience was totally lovely. It is on the monastery compound so yes there are bells chiming, if you don't like this then I suggest bring a pair of...

Great break from Barcelona: 1 hour train to Monistrol and then via rack railway uphill. Lots of day tourists even off season, but nearly none overnight - yet the boys' choir shared the vesper and the full board of the hotel is recommended.

Montserrat is utterly breathtaking and if you have the time to journey there we suggest you take advantage of this accommodation. The location is priceless, the investment negligible and the beds....well if you camp you will be comfortable here. The lodging you rent consists of a simple eating area with a bench and table, small compact kitchen, simple bathroom and...

Worst place to stay. I want money back because it was absolutely horrible. Check in was confusing. Wasn't informed of the extensive checkin procedure before hand. Had to park a mile down the mountain from the hotel. By the way all night long you just hear sounds of footsteps and stomping that you can't even sleep. It is very vey...

We loved just about everything about Montserrat from the monastery to the views to the trails. The service people in the hotel were pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast had a huge and varied selection of foods. The restaurant meal for supper was also nice for vegetarians. After supper we were able to visit the Madonna without any lines. This is...

If you choose to stay here, decide it is for a clean room in a gorgeous setting, and don't think of it as a hotel. Then you will enjoy those things that otherwise seem inconvenient. Getting here. You could drive, but it is long and expensive, and you are not guaranteed a space. Take the cable car instead! It is safe...
