The Hostal Splendid is indeed splendid, with clean rooms with private bath, comfortable beds, beautiful old hard wood floors, friendly owners, reasonable price. Building is an elegant old building on Gran Via.

Fairly inexpensive, with superb location. If you keep your window open you hear the traffic. Close it and turn AC on and there is no noise. Rooms were great and the staff extremely friendly. Willing to recommend or explain things about the city. Shops, restaurants, metro, all are close. Area is very safe.

All these places are reachable by walking. The...

I thought for sure this place would suck, but it was actually quite nice and very safe. Just 4 blocks from the center of Madrid, staff was very friendly and the rooms were very clean. Noise was an issue at times, but not as bad as I thought it would be (tip: bring ear plugs if sensitive to noise). All...

If you plan to do mostly a lot of partying in Madrid, I recommend staying here. The walls are as thin as paper, so you can hear everything. It's very safe. You drop off your key at the front desk, and must ring the doorbell to re-enter. If you arrive after 11pm, you are given a special card stating that...

Myself & my partner booked two nights at the Hostal Splendid on 1st February. The hostal is in a large old building which has multiple occupancy with other hostals & businesses. You need to take the lift & knock on the door to be let in. Our room, which was facing onto the main road (Gran Via) was very small...

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
