Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is in a reasonably good location. Quite close to the royal palace and cathedral. Hotel was clean. It was pretty good value. A little dated, and a bit basic, but did the job for a first trip to Madrid. I would probably opt for somewhere nicer next time.

The hotel location it's the number one advantage of this hotel. Also, the room is big and equipped with a kitchenette. The front desk personnel, just excellent. We ask them for an iron, and it was supplied immediately to us. Also, we request a remote control and also, it was provided in minutes. No problem with the hot water supply. Very comfortable beds also. The negative side: - AC turns off at the middle of the night and stay off by hours. Although it was October, the temp outside was not so cold, so the room also get hot. Almost impossible to sleep comfortably. We notify it, and I believe that they check the unit when we are outside the room, but no improvement was noticed. - Breakfast was the worst I see in a long time. It goes short of almost everything and the replenishment was not performed on time. The coffee is from a dispensing machine. Terrible taste. What is unbelievable is that the breakfast is offered on an uncomfortable area on the second floor of an adjacent cafeteria, and on the first floor is for incomings and guest that will pay for their breakfast. But you can book your room without the breakfast option and go to any other near restaurant. There are a lot of them in the Gran Via, that is very close. All what I mention is the reason for my 3-star rating. But if they improve these, it will be a great place to stay in Madrid.

Nice hotel, but old rooms and regular breakfast. For a three star hotel breakfast could be much better - this was in fact the lowest point of our stay. The rooms are large but decoration is outdated. The staff is kind but disorganized. It's okay to stay a couple of days, specially due to The location (very close to Plaza de España station) but if we come back to Madrid we'll choose another place.

Great location - withing walking distance to main attractions. Friendly and helpful staff. Spacious room with a comfortable bed. The kitchenette is a useful addition and well fitted into the room. Surprisingly quiet (when windows closed obviously) despite location at usually busy and noisy square. Would consider for another stay when visiting Madrid again (even if a bit expensive but location and comfy room compensate.) Breakfast served at the cafe downstairs was pretty basic and poor. Could be improved. However, number of places around to have good breakfast so not a big issue.

Great location, large rooms, good value, helpful staff. But... The place is past its best and in need of a make-over. The TV channels are poor. No international news. The breakfast room is depressing, the food is unappealing and it is badly managed. So, you get what you pay for...but don't expect more.

I spent 6 nights at Espahotel Plaza de Espana in May 2022 and had an amazing time there. I would highly recommend the hotel. Positives: -Very friendly and helpful staff -I was upgraded to a suite on arrival. This was in a part of the hotel that had been refurbished recently. The room was superb. Everything new, great bed, large bathroom, good kitchen, furniture, everything -The hotel is about a 30 second walk from the Plaza de Espana metro station which is super convenient -There are many nice bars and restaurants closeby, including several interesting sights and the Gran Via street Negatives: -The airconditioning unit in my bedroom was a bit noisy at night so I switched it off when I was sleeping. Overall, I highly recommend the hotel

I think the title I wrote summarizes my experience. It is very conveniently located, next to Plaza España, close to the subway, with many restaurants and shops easily available. The breakfast was underwhelming (limited options like one type of bread, the scrambled eggs didn't look too good, mediocre machine coffee, etc). The room was Ok, although I had to close the shower every now and then while showering as otherwise, it would flood. The internet was absolutely horrible. Some people don't care about that, and if you don't, then I would recommend this hotel. I was on a business trip and thus it was very important for me to have a working Internet connection; this was not the case. It would drop every couple of minutes, the speed was horrible, etc. All in all, I wouldn't really stay here again. It is not terrible, but there are better places to stay.

The hotel is easily accessible via metro (Plaza de España station). It’s very close to the Real Palacio de Madrid on one side and Gran Via on the other. We were given a room with a terrace which took us by surprise and we are very grateful to Espahotel for that. It had more than enough room for us and the amenities were very much made available for us. The hotel has great value for money and we were very pleased with our stay that it definitely entered our list of the best hotels we have stayed in. The receptionists spoke both English and Spanish so communication was never a problem. In line with this, I’d like to thank Roberto and Jaime for being kind and helpful to us. Finally, they allowed us to have our luggage stored which made it convenient for us since we didn’t have to drag our bags with us as we toured. I highly recommend staying in Espahotel. Muchas Gracias!

This hotel is under renovation (drilling in the next room started at 8am). Our first room had tired decor and furniture. After a few days there was some problem with the electricity (or something?!) and the elevator and water were not working (preventing us from leaving the hotel as we have a child in a stroller). We were repeatedly assured it would be fixed “in two hours” but the technicians only came the next day. After 6 hours with no water we asked to move rooms. Our new room appeared beautifully renovated but the shower overflowed all over the bathroom floor and the air con didn’t work during the day. With some improvements, this could be a decent three star hotel, but it’s not there yet. Location is good (right between Grand Via and the Palace). Television was the biggest we saw in Spain (where they all seem to be tiny). And a big bonus, there was an actual double bed (rather than the usual two singles pushed together)!
