If you are looking for a budget stay in Madrid, look nowhere else. Hostal Santa Cruz has a perfect location, a few steps away from Plaza Mayor and a minute walk from Plaza del Sol and all that it offers. I cannot stress enough the perfect location and the great price for my stay. Went with my wife, and our...

Let it be said right away; the HOSTAL SANTA CRUZ is a genuine gem! Only a minute away from Madrid's Plaza Mayor, and located on the 2nd floor of an older building overlooking a square, it offers ”oldfashioned”, yet very modern accommodations at very reasonable rates. My single room – no. 206 – was not big; as a matter of...

Its location is very close to Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol (metro lines and Renfe), also you can walk for a few minutes to go to Mercado San Miguel and enjoy the food you will find there. It is located in a central area surrounded by shops and restaurants. Sometimes we have problems with Wi-Fi; the lift can be...

Stayed 3 nights here at the end of November. Rooms were kept very clean. location is great. Only issue we experienced during our stay was an unpleasant drain smell in our bathroom, but this wasnt the fault of the hotel, more of a Madrid problem. Overall a good value option for staying in Madrid. Would stay here again.

We stayed here for 3 nights and would stay again. Location is awesome. Right between Puerto Sol and Plaza Mayor. About 5 minute walk to each. Clean establishment and our room had been redone at some stage so bathroom was nice. Only downside was the wifi which was intermittent at best. Use the lounge if you want better reception.

Summary of this Hostal could be said in three words: Location, location, location. Hostal was good itself, no problem with that. Room I got was small with two beds, and when I say small I mean small: you had to bend yourself in order to manage to go from door to bathroom - that tiny space there's between the bed...

We were going to Madrid a couple of weeks before Christmas and we wanted a hotel right in the centre. A friend recommended this hotel and we booked it straight away. We had not realised that the hotel occupies one floor of a large building but the room was large and overlooked the square. Still it wasn't at all noisy...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
