Staying here after a bad experience at Tryp Gran Via last week. That hotel had a lot of noise so decided to book the Emperador as they promise to have noisefree rooms: well.... That is ab-so-lute-ly not the truth. I could hear my neighbours breath.....!! Then this morning asking for a cappuccino at breakfast they told me I had to...

This hotel is in an ideal location close to the centre of Madrid. The old town is within easy walking distance, as is the Prado and the Palace. The room was lovely with all the toiletries you could need and tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a minibar and safe. The staff were helpful and friendly. Our breakfast...

Unfortunately we did not stay at this hotel but used the restaurant/bar facilities on several occasions. Used the bar for an evening meal once and also visited twice more for evening drinks after our main dinner. The place is very impressive. The staff and the service are very good. If we visited Madrid again we would definitely stay at this...

When I booked Emperador, I was not entirely convinced about my decision, but I decided to take a punt, and it turned out to be an excellent bet. The property itself is located bang on Gran Via with easy access to all parts of Madrid. Since I was only there for a short while, I did not use the subway,...

This hotel was in a great location, near to the plaza de Espana, on the Gran Via, and within close walking distance to the palace, cathedral, plaza de mayor and lots of shopping/theatres. The hotel itself is very nice inside and beautiful when lit up at night. Service was quick and efficient. Check in wasn't until 2pm but I arrived...

The Emperador Hotel was in the downtown section of Madrid, easily cab ride from shopping or The Prado Museum, and easily walking for dinner. The front desk staff steered me to the ECI Madrid Department Store for a manicure and to purchase some gifts. The breakfast selection was the best served in all of Spain and Portugal. No smoking hotel.

Stayed here for three nights with my fiends for a weekend in Madrid. The staff was alright and so was the room a and the breakfast. Nothing special. Two things bothered me which was that I had no warm water when I took a shower in the middle of the night after our flight. (And yes I did wait). And...

I had visited this hotel as part of a three night break to Madrid. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly hotel staff and went straight up to the room, the room was very spacious and modern, although the bathroom was a little dated. The hotel itself is is a great location for exploring the city, there are plenty of...

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in December. One of the main factors for our decision of booking this hotel, was its central location in Gran Via, being a stone's throw away from attractions, such as the Royal Palace, as well as the shopping districts and streets. The hotel service was quite good, and if you have the...

Myself and my wife spent 3 nights (Thurs - Sun) in January at the Hotel Emperador. Firstly the location. The hotel is located on the Gran Via and is less than 5 minutes walk from the main centre. There is a metro station outside the hotel. It's about 40 minutes from the airport using the metro or a fixed €30...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
