just a one-minutewalk from Sol square. The atmosphere is a lot more cosy than you would probably expect. It seems to be more of a hostel for the elderly than a youth hostel. However, if you like to take it easy fr a day or two, this seems to be just right. The price is very low, less than twenty...

Nice, clean, all I needed, including your own digital A/C unit & a refrigerator. The proprietor stayed up late to to let me in when my flight was late. She stayed aware of comings & goings, but that just made it feel safe. There is a tiny glass elevator to get you up to the 2nd floor with probably just...

This is a really good quality-price deal. A single is €38 and a doublé €50. What you get for that is a small room--what did you expect--with a full bathroom, wifi, TV, heat, A/C, and a fridge. It's super-clean, and the people who work there are very nice and helpful. Ask for a room with a balcony over the street:...

I would highly recommend this hostal. It is conveniently situated five minutes from the Metro and within reasonable walking distance to the city centre. It is also close to plenty of shops and restaurants. I got a very warm welcome and was given a lovely soft extra pillow when I checked in which made my nights here very comfortable. There...

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
