It should be borne in mind that this is a HostAl and not a HostEl by which I mean if you're expecting common rooms, bar crawls and 'companionship' this is the wrong place. It's a private accommodation house offering spotlessly clean, comfortable and affordable rooms in an excellent location. Convenient to Puerta del Sol (just a few minutes walk away)...

I love the old-fashioned elevator to the hotel - Lauren Bacall should be slinking into it - it's a shame they never keep such things in the UK. The hotel is excellent value for money, and the location near the Plaza de Espana metro is very useful if you plan to visit Salamanca, Burgos, Segovia, Leon et al (all worth...

I had a cozy single room with my own shower and bath. In addition to being clean and centrally located, the hostal exceeded my expectations-the hostal was in a unique building with a spiral staircase or option to take this great antique open iron gate elevator and the receptionists were very friendly.

I'd truly recommend this place. It was clean, pretty and reasonable. The service was great and rooms were very nice. Right outside is the city centre and everything is easy to access. Had a wonderful time there. I'd go there again!

Hostal Santillan is more like a hotel. It is centrally located in Madrid and you will be within walking distance of any tourist attraction that you wish to see in the area. The staff is extremely kind and always willing to help in any way that they can. The rooms are like hotel rooms and they were immaculate. There is...

Very accomodating, in the heart of the city. Really close to everything. Staff was friendly and the price was fair. The only negative I would say is the noise, being on one of the main streets, weekend nights are loud until morning.

Great property. The room was spacious and clean. Very central to everything in Madrid. Staff was helpful upon checkin and checkout. Only annoyance was having to use 3 keys to get to the hostal, but not bad.

We stayed for 5 nights in a double private room, it was great, the location is excellent, you can walk to almost all of the tourist places in Madrid. It has several restaurants nearby in order to have breakfast, I recommend the restaurant called Nebraska wich is across the street. The hostel is easy to reach by metro, several near...

The location couldn´t be better, it´s located on one of the most important streets of Madrid, La Gran Vía - The Main Way. They clean up the room everyday, good treatment and a great room for the price paid

We spent three nights in a private room with bath. The room was quiet, the bed was comfortable, there was a nice wardrobe with a space to hang clothes and with drawers, the room was clean and the bathroom was a decent size. We felt it was good value for the price. The staff were all very nice and helpful....

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
