All the staff from the front desk to the maids were very helpful and friendly. New facilities in the shell of an old building. Nice six euro bre, akfast. A new offering areSunday and Wednesday walking tours . We went on one Wednesday and saw bits of Madrid not on regular commercial tours.

Can't complement the receptionists enough. Always friendly and welcoming with excellent English they were able to recommend places to eat and places to visit during our stay. The hotel is clean with a good selection for breakfast and a lovely fruit salad that my kids couldn't get enough of. We had a room on the 5th floor which was large...

This small hotel offered us a comfortable base to explore Madrid from. It is well situated for the Prado, the Reine de la Sofia and the metro and the main town square is easily walkable to. Our studio room was clean and comfortable and the only thing missing was a view as we had chosen to be at the back...

We just checked into a luxury high rise hotel in Barcelona, and my daughter asked why it doesn't feel nice like the Artrip, even though it's fancy. We already miss the staff at Artrip, who were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Whether it's a Thyssen vs. Sorolla museum debate, a discussion of Madrid football teams, the weather, or a flamenco recommendation,...

Communication before arrival was helpful and timely. Miguel and his staff were incredibly friendly and helpful without being overwhelming. The hotel is comfortable and our room was cosy and well- furnished, with what was officilaly declared to be the world's best shower. The location is good - everything seemed to be pleasantly walkable, whether the Art galleries / museums ,...

We had a great stay at Artrip hotel and particularly enjoyed the beautiful small balcony over looking the streets below. The shower was one of the best I have had, and the room available was ample. Staff were great, and I would absolutely take up their offer of borrowing a free wifi box which means you have access to wifi...

Easy to walk to many sites from the hotel or very close to metro if you'd prefer. Good breakfast, great coffee, comfortable bed and stylish room. Warm staff. My friend and I had a lovely stay. Only negative was that air con was on heat mode in Feb but our room was too warm so we slept with the windows...

From the moment I walked through the door, my experience at this hotel was exemplary. I had received an email about a week prior welcoming me and asking what time I would be arriving. I came in on a long flight, arriving about 10 a.m., and expecting to wait until the check-in time of 3 p.m. Instead, I was greeted...

Superb hotel. Stayed in attic room 1 - loved everything about the hotel and location. Excellent breakfast and afternoon tea / coffee was a lovely surprise. Would stay again. The staff had organised a restaurant prior to arrival and could not have been more helpful. Really clean hotel.

Staying in Lavapies

Neighbourhood Profile
Lavapies
Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.
