This hostal is very well placed. And the price is really very good . The room are basic but well attended, not high expectations but they are clean and the air conditioning/ heating work well . I spend there a couple of nights but for a short visit I will certainly comeback. Like the breakfast very much and to eat...

This hotel is just awful. The room felt like a prison cell - grey and FILTHY. The furniture is older than I am, the bedding and towels had ciggarette burns and was threadbare, didn't want to stand on the floor in bare feet it was so dirty... location felt dodgy, I was uncomfortable walking there in the day time alone....

Hostal Apolo was the final hotel for a small group tour I recently did. All of the hotels were pretty average, but Apolo has the distinction of being the worst by quite a stretch. Technically it should be okay. The location was close to the tapas bars, the room was clean, the linen was clean, the room was large, the...

The main advantage for this hotel is that it's in a good location within easy walking distance to everything, and it's reasonably cheap. The rest was incredibly disappointing. One of the main receptionists really made our arrival hellish, ranting at us angrily in Spanish (we understand a little, but he wouldn't slow down and use simple words) although we realised...

Firstly, be aware that there are two "Apolo"s in this area of Madrid: this hotel and Hostal Apolo XI. Don't print out directions to the wrong one like we did ;) We arrived here quite late at night, and my first impression was that the area looked quite run down, lots of boarded up shops and graffiti. Unfortunately, this was...

I just stayed four nights here and whilst I agree with the comments about the noisy bathroom and general plain decor, if you literally want to rest your head on a comfortable bed in a room that is thoroughly cleaned every day, you won't get better for 45 Euros a night. The staff are very friendly (more so if you...

First of all this hotel is a 2 star at best - the rooms were clean but very shabby with dirty marks on the walls and big chunks missing out of the furniture. And I've never heard a louder toilet! I was actually woken twice during the night by the noise of other people flushing theirs, despite the fact that...

For my first experience of a Spanish hotel, I was disappointed with some aspects of the hotel, but pleased with others. I was initially disappointed to find no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, and the use of the television depended on an additional €10 - something I'd expect to be included like any other hotel from Prague...

Staying in Lavapies

Neighbourhood Profile
Lavapies
Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.
