We spent three nights at this hotel, arriving on New Year's Eve, and absoultely loved it! The hotel decor is gorgeously cosy but modern and the exterior is so colourful. The hotel is situated in a pretty cobblestoned street, walking distance from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol. The location is fantastic (espcially on New Year's eve - being able...

Coming into Madrid after 3 weeks in Catalunya, we checked brand new Lonely Planet for a last-minute recommendation. This hotel was "Author's Choice", though it turned out to be 50% more expensive than listed. Well located it is, but so are many, many other lodgings. The young staff were cheerful. However, our 150 Euro room matched other reviewers comments: one...

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel - fantastic position near the Placa Major, friendly staff, but definitely not a 4 star hotel. We were first given a small, cramped attic room with a sloping roof on the 4th floor, which was claustrophobic & dark, but after complaining, moved to a much bigger, more pleasant room on the 2nd...

Booked through LastMinute.com on Monday morning, arrived Tuesday lunchtime for 3 nights. Reservation ready. Very friendly staff, clean room with great shower/en-suite and laptop with internet connection, security safe in room. We had a small room (but big enough for our requirements as we were out most of the time) on top floor with view of internal courtyard walls, but...

My husband and I travelled to Spain for the first time last month with our three month old baby. We stayed at Petit Palace Posada del Peine in Madrid for several days and had a very good experience there. We found it to be a very nice, personal boutique hotel. The location just off Plaza Mayor is a great home...

We booked this hotel for itś excellent location. We were not dissappointed! Being just off the Plaza Mayor, we were right at the heart of things (and still very little noise!) The hotel inside has a very modern and contemporary feel. A complete contrast with the outside of the building, which is said to be almost 400 years old! We...

First let me say that we originally booked in at the Petit Palace Alcala Torre because we were a group of 3 adults looking to share accommodations and they were one of the more centrally located hotels which was reasonably priced. My husband and I had stayed in a Petit Palace Hotel when we went to Valencia last year so...

First impression was good - modern trendy reception. Thereafter it all went downhill. We had a family room on the third floor with a nice view of the wall opposite at the back of the hotel. The family room was small. My wife and son compared it to a prison cell. The beds were rock hard, the bunk beds creeked...

Good location but very small rooms. We booked a Family room, which in fact appeared to be a normal double room with a camp bed erected in a very small space - barely room to swing a cat! Bathroom modern but the sink is badly designed (flat basin which meant poor drainage). Coridoors badly lit. Thin walls, meant we could...

First of all, this hotel is not luxurious nor 4-star. It is average at best so if you don't want to pay high prices for not much, scroll to the bottom of this review for a possible reasonable option. And as nice and hard-working as the young adults working the front desk are, this hotel is so understaffed. This chain...

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
