Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of November. * Excellent location- right by the Opera station and less than a 5 minute walk to The Royal Palace and many other major attractions and popular restaurants. * Excellent price for the quality location and amenities- $79 USD/night via Booking.com * Our room was very quiet, had a fridge, and... I had a great experience at this hotel. My criteria for evaluating a hotel are that it be (1) a good value (we rarely pay more than $100 USD/night), (2) conveniently-located, and (3) quiet. I don't care about details like how the furniture looks and whether the staff is friendly, although Hostal Oriente hit both those points -- rooms are... More

Stayed here in October 2016, the location is excellent, right next to the Opera metro station. It is a small place and the rooms we had were not massive but at 60 Euro in the centre of Madrid it was good value. The rooms aren't massive but were clean and tidy with a half bath and shower, we did have... More

Hostale Oriente's greatest strong point is the location. It's across the street from a metro stop Opera. Is in the middle of a square with enough eating options and many attractions are walking distance on either sides of the hotel. The single rooms are tiny and have an even tinier window but since I was in the room to only... More

We got a room at the last minute and were really pleased with our choice. Clean rooms, strong showers, comfortable bed. The hotel is very central near lots of restaurants. (Although I would not recommend La Mario - on the square very close. Despite good food the staff seemed very disillusioned with tourists and in fact were quite rude!) The... More

The hostal is located in the centre of Madrid.Very clean rooms but very small.Staff is helpfull but better try to speak Spanish.Wifi was working well. They do not provide breakfast but you have really big choice near hostal. The only problem was with other guests who were very noisy (at first night) at 1 a.m.in the leisure room.

What can I say, the location is perfect. Conveniently located at the Opera metro stop and close to shops, cafes and restaurants. The room was quaint, but very clean and safe. The room had an ensuite bath; however, I will warn you that the shower was extremely small. The front desk clerk did not speak English very well, so just... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
