Stayed here end of October last for 3 nights. It's the perfect location for exploring the city. Staff were great. 24 hour reception is exactly what you need in Madrid! Returning for a visit in June and can't wait.

This hostel is simply perfect. Perfect location just 100m from Puerta de Sol. Small rooms, but you have everithing, and in Madrid nobody spent much time in a room. Everything is clean, the towels are changed every day. Staff is extremly nice and helpfull. 300m around there are many good restaurants. If you are looking for a cheap, but good... More

A small good value hotel on the 2nd floor of an easily located building just off Sol. Although the rooms are small, they are very clean , comfortable and functional. the staff are friendly and helpful and there are a wide range of resturants and cafes nearby. A good choice for a one night stop.

My wife and I were in Madrid for a few days in April and we enjoyed our stay at Hostal Esmeralda. Aside that it is very central (literally around the corner from Puerta del Sol), it was also very clean! Definitely recommend it! Would stay there again!

Perfect position and great hospitality. These are the main characteristics of this little hotel, placed in the middle of the awesome madrilena movida, just next to Puerta del Sol. Also the price is very reasonable!

Great little Hostal just by Puerta del Sol. Close to everything, tour bus passes. Plenty of shops, bars, restaurants. Expected some street noise at night, but was not much. Rooms are lovely and clean, warm and comfy. Recommended.

The major plus side of this little hotel is that it is smack bang in the middle of the city. Pretty much 5 mins walk from the Puerta del Sol metro. It is surrounded by tons of activity day and night. Street performers are there day and night by the metro, whilst there are streets of restaurants within minutes walking.... More

I'm not a light sleeper and the late night party-ers did not bother me too much, but I could NOT sleep through the trash can band that seemed to go on for hours and woke me up way too early Wednesday morning. On the plus side, great central location neighboring a Dunkin Donuts and Museo Del Jamon. As a tourist,... More

Clean and nice place, friendly staff. Tended to be a little noisy on Friday nights as it is a minute walk from Puerta-del-Sol and that' s a noisy place. There is a locker in every room, costs one euro to open\close it. I visited in february and the room was chilly, although an extra blanket is provided.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
