As many hotels in Madrid is an old building. The location is great! Right to the "puerta del sol" the room is clean and confortable with a private bathroom, closet, tv and 2 window/balcony facing the puerta del sol, we can see and here all the action going on outside the puerta del sol which we love, if you can't...

A hidden hidden jewel steps away from Plaza de la Puerta del Sol in the center of Madrid. It is very close to Sol metro station, pubs, restaurants, and Apple store. The staff is friendly but felt bad since I was coming late in the early morning from the pubs and you need to be buzzed to get in. You...

Situated in the city center and next to an underground station. Good staff and clean rooms. There was some noise, as this part of the city has a trepidant nightlifr, aside for that it was great, also cheaper than other hotels in the same area

During my stay in Madrid I wanted to be close to Playa Mayor, to a main metro line and close to the Retiro park. After reading several reviews Hostal Ana Bellenit sounded like the ideal place, several reviews stated that the hotel was close to the bars and restaurants in the area of Sol and amazingly quite especially as it...

The location alone is enough to warrant the Hostal Ana Belen consideration. It is located literally a few steps from De La Sol, the major civic centre in Madrid. There are very few better located hotels in the city and staying here would put you right in the centre of the action. The rooms are basic, but comfortable, and are...

I travel alone a lot for business and pleasure. I rarely feel that I benefit from travelling alone when it comes to accommodation, but this time, I did. The Pension Ana Belen, located literally a step off the Puerta del Sol, far exceeded my expectations, and it was cheaper than the single room rates at any of the hotels around....

Hostal Ana Belan is a well run "hotel". We had an adequate room with small bathroom. There is always someone on duty and they are friendly and helpful with limited English ( a lot better than our Spanish). It is secure and surprisingly quiet considering the lively location. We could walk to a variety of places of interest and in...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
