Catalonia Excelsior is located in an emblematic building dating from the mid 20th century, which has undergone comprehensive renovation throughout the year 2000. Its location is excellent, right in the centre of Valencia, in Barcelonina Street, next to the Town's Hall Square and a few metres from the railway station, the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciencies and 15 minutes from the Trade Fair Centre and the airport. The hotel has 81 rooms on 7 floors.

My mum and I were unexpectedly moved to this hotel for one night during the coronavirus pandemic, as our booked hotel had to shut. As you can imagine, we were somewhat nervous as we hadn't researched it.

However, they were able to accommodate us easily enough and we still were given a twin bedroom with all the facilities we needed. There was a desk, a comfy armchair, wardrobes, full-length mirror and a bathroom with a bath (my mum was pleased with the latter especially!). There was always plenty of hot water as well.

In the morning, as there weren't many guests, they cooked our breakfast from scratch - it was scrumptious and the woman in the kitchen (I didn't catch her name) gave an amazing service during what was a concerning time. We were given enough bread, cheese, ham and fruit to last our for lunch too!

I stayed at the Catalonia Excelsior in July with my husband and 17 year-old son. For the price (very reasonable) and location (steps from Plaza Ayuntamiento and other major sights) you cannot beat this hotel. We had a triple room. It was quite tight. With the extra bed for my son, there was virtually no other room to walk around. But, we made the best of it. The whole room had wraparound windows, but the summer heat prevented us from keeping the blinds open. Speaking of the heat, the AC in the room was inconsistent. Sometimes, it wasn't strong enough. And, other times it was too strong.

The breakfast choices were good. They pretty much had anything you might want. The only negative is the actual area where food was served was quite tight. It got crowded easily . The area to sit and eat was more spacious.

The location of this hotel is great. It is right near the Only You Hotel, which I'm sure costs a lot more to stay. You can walk to all sights: Cathedral, Plaza Redonda, Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The rooms are somewhat dark and dreary. And, our closet door was off the track. But, it was clean and totally adequate. Overall, I would recommend this hotel when you are visiting Valencia.

Oh, I forgot to mention the front-desk staff and breakfast staff were all friendly and helpful. They arranged for a taxi to pick us up at 4:45 am as we had an early morning flight out of the Valencia airport.

Don’t be fooled by this being a business hotel. They catered for our tourist needs perfectly.
From the moment of check in we felt appreciated until checkout.
We chose this particular hotel purely because it offered rooms with a terrace rather then just an open window. But at no point were we disappointed. Our room was beautiful, and every amenity had been thought of.
The location was central to Valencia city, but a very quiet area in regards to over night noise.
Being use to hotels that offer 24 hour room services, we didn’t hesitate to order at anytime of day. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case here, but nobody corrected us and our order was always delivered. Amazing service as far as I’m concerned.
We did dine here one evening and the young lady waiting on us was so lovely I really could have smothered her with compliments.
Nothing was too much trouble and she really went above and beyond to look after us.
So annoyed I didn’t get her name ( although I believe she Romania).
Wonderful hotel, definitely recommend.

Stayed at the Excelsior, late May 2021. We went for a long weekend. All the staff were very friendly & professional giving excellent care from check-in to check-out: at reception morning & evening, the cleaners on the floors, all but a special mention for Marcelo at breakfast, who made every guest welcome, helping with orders in many languages, and remembered guests' preferences. The rooms were clean. We had a nice terrace with rooftop views and sun-loungers to catch a few rays. The location is perfect: very central & near the train stations.

We took the train to Valencia from Vinaros and then talked the short 6 min to our hotel. The walk was not difficult as once you cross the street, the streets are very well paved. The hotel is surrounded by little side walk cafes and the best three in the area are directly in back of the hotel between the Hotel Valencia. Louis Vuitton is a three minute walk from the Catalonia. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is professional and very helpful. The breakfast is good and there is even a work out room! Castles and historic places everywhere! I love this place!!

Our stay at the Catalonia Excelsior left us dreading to return to the hotel during our stay and we will definitely not return in the future. In comparison to two other Catalonia hotels we visited, the Catalonia Excelsior does not deserve its 4 star rating. Besides the inferior facilities and the scaled down breakfast buffet, the lack of the staff to adequately communicate and problem solve makes this hotel far inferior. We experienced two issues during our stay. 1. lack of A/C for 2 of the 3 nights, having to deal with a warm stuffy room, noise from the trash and recycle containers and light intrusion all night. 2. lack of water from 10am-4pm, leaving us no choice but to not be in the room during the day. we payed about 200 euros per night for a room we could not use and which was uncomfortable at night. We addressed these problems with hotel staff, manager and Catalonia Resort directly with no resolution as to how we would be compensated for not being able to use the full functionality of our room. Catalonia is a nice brand and we have enjoyed wonderful stays in other Catalonia hotels in Spain. This hotel doe snot deserve the brand name.

Fantastic staff, location and room, as well as great value for money. The whole city was within easy walking distance, and the maps in reception made it easy to find my way all over. Go at Christmas, the lights were fantastic.

This hotel is, as everyone mentions, in an excellent location for all the sights, bars, restaurants and transport in Valencia. I have just returned from a marvellous week there - the rooms were spacious & comfortable (with air conditioning) and the staff were, without exception, friendly and very helpful. Despite the central location I found the hotel relatively quiet and enjoyed good night sleeps! The restaurant food was tasty and the breakfasts had evrything that you could ask for - fried and scrambled eggs, tortilla, sausages , bacon (at weekends) and a huge range of fruit salads & juices. A great selection of coffees, teas and breads/toast were also available every day. Central Valencia is quite a distance from the beach and it is best to catch a bus there which takes about 25mins - the staff on reception are very helpful with any transport details...

A great location. Room was very comfortable but the bathroom was a little strange with the toilet being practically under the counter and this meant my 6ft6 partner had to be some sort of contortionist to go for anything that required sitting down.

Staff were all pleasant and efficient but there is absolutely zero atmosphere but that can be found in abundance just a few metres outside the door!

We would stay here again but would definitely upgrade the room in a hope to get a more suitably located toilet!

Breakfest is a disaster, not enough food, you have to ask for anything as the staff dont got time to refill the food. Coffee at the breakfest is so bad, very unusal for Spanish hotels. The cleaning is not good around the food and on the tables.

Gym was closed without notice to the guest, we choosed the hotel beacuse of location and gym.

Room was small but nice, terrece was big but no towles or cosy pillows.
Cleaning of the room was poor, no refilling of soap, no cleaning of the floor. We stayed for 7 n so it needs some vacume cleaning at least every second day.
Dont think I will stay there again

We travel a lot and stay so much at hotels, Spain has a better level of service, cleaness etc.

Hi, Sorry response is a long time coming. I visited this hotel in June 2022. At this time they did in fact have a restaurant, which was situated just behind the check in area. The restaurant menu was updated regularly, which perhaps is why they don’t have an actual menu on the website. Also, looking at pictures of the restaurant it appears to have been moved to a different area of the hotel ( or the pics are old and now the restaurant is behind check in). The menu was small, but all fresh local ingredients. We were very impressed with quality.

The North station is about 10 minutes walk away. I do not know how long it takes to get to the MotoGP circuit, but the resorption staff at the hotel were very helpful, so I suggest that you ring them or look up the train times for the Spanish national railway.
