Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at the guesthouse (which was also top notch) and had a wonderful 9 course tasting menu at the Red Lion. Each course was beautifully presented and well up to a Michelin star standard. The wine pairing was imaginative and excellent value. Service from all staff was friendly and timed perfectly, with a special shout out to our server Daisy who was both knowledgeable and warm. You can always tell from the atmosphere when staff enjoy working somewhere so congratulations to the Red Lion for creating and supporting a team that is skilled and dedicated to their job. Breakfast the next day was included in our package and this was also delicious with lots of choice. Highly recommended.

We stayed one night while traveling in South England. I wish it was longer! Comfy room but the outdoor space by the River Avon is picturesque! The food was excellent. Highly recommend the crab tart, the gimlet, and a lovely bottle of Rathfinny. We hope to be back.

Friendliest of welcomes, comfiest of beds, beautiful views, superb food and the breakfast…?! Could also take our dog 🙂. Outstanding. It’s also a local pub with regular ‘locals nights’. Thoroughly recommend

Booked the Red Lion and Troutbeck Guest House for my 40th. It was exceptional. The room, food and wine were fantastic and the staff amazing. We had a party of 20 and the staff were enourmously accomodating, even helping a few of us back at 1am! I cannot recommend it enough.

This place is a slice of Heaven! The rooms are just beautiful and of an exceptional standard. The little decking area is an added bonus, and then you can go down and sit on the grass under the willow trees by the river. You can fish from there, and my husband had a little dip too! The pub is just across the road and again, wonderful! Food delicious, including the breakfast which also offered Buck Fizz and Bloody Marys! Service was friendly, but professional. This place has won many awards, but it's not pretentious or stuffy. Definitely will be back!!

A joy to return to the fabulous Troutbeck Guesthouse, attached to the Red Lion Freehouse. The restaurant is a culinary destination worth making a considerable journey for. To make the stay truly memorable, taking a room for the night is to be placed in the lap of luxury. The best beds and bedwear you're likely to find anywhere, beautiful rooms with lovely outside spaces overlooking the river and surrounding 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. Room amenities are generous with everything sourced locally or with the highest quality in mind.

Quick 1 night stay. Room views are amazing and the meals at the pub are just as amazing. Will be going back for a longer stay in the future. We loved the fact that you could just walk up to breakfast and dinner and a short drive to many adventures.

Still blown away with how good the Troutbeck and Red Lion were. We received a warm welcome at check in and that welcome carried on throughout our stay. I’ll always have great memories of sitting on the deck outside the room watching the lambs jump up by the side of the river. It was like a dream sequence. Had dinner in the Red lion which was excellent. I must say the staff were all absolutely amazing and are a credit to the place. I will without a doubt, be back.

A friendly village pub, with amazing quality of food, and a small number of outstanding bedrooms, with balconies looking on to a small garden and stream. I had one of the most delicious fish dishes I have ever eaten (Cod Fillet). The weather was wet, so was unable to take advantage of the balcony and garden - next time!
