The owner - Manuela - was overwhelmingly warm and welcoming. The room was delightful - simple, tasteful furniture, comfortable bed, well equipped bathroom, a wonderful morning view over the sun rising on the other side of the ravine on which Matera perches. Manuela and her architect husband have converted the house from one of the "Sassi" (caves hollowed out in...

My wife and I had a wonderful 2-night stay at Casastella. We arrived by train and Andrea drove over to the station, picked us up and took us back to the B&B where we met his mother, Manula. Andrea speaks perfect English while Manula has to work at it but manages quite well. The location is very convenient, easy to...

My husband and I absolutely loved our 3 night stay at Casastella. We had the suite with the bathroom in the cistern. I highly recommend this particular room because of the bathroom. It is so incredible and feels like a spa. While touring Matera, you will learn how important the cisterns were, which makes it very unique to use one....

Luckily we found this B & B by chance for our 3 night stay. Everything was ideal, the room, the breakfast, the B & B in general was very clean and tastefully presented. The location was handy for walking to see the sights of beautiful Matera. The hostess, Manuela, was very pleasant, friendly and helpful.

Casastella is a fantastic B&B that provides the perfect "home base" while visiting the sites of Matera. Set in the "Sassi di Matera", Casastella includes space and rooms carved into the rock of the Matera Sassi. The architecture and design of Casastella is amazing. The location of Casastella provides the visitor to Matera with easy walking access to the entire...

At first the street seems sketchy but the owners and the interior are great. Andreas , the son speaks perfect English and is so helpful. He also runs tours. Our greeting was complete with sweets and coffee. Lovely sitting areas and beautiful room. Fantastic view of the caves. Extremely easy by car and easy parking on the street. Easy walk...

I absolutely adored this B&B! First of all, it's a restored sassi cave home, but you can't even tell. Everything is spotless and clean and inviting. The breakfast was phenomenal; fresh cakes, yogurt, fruit, focaccia, and more--there was more than enough for the four of us! My boyfriend and I stayed in -1st floor room with access to that incredible...

The four of us booked the 2 bedroom suite which was situated over 2 floors below ground level and we had access to the really awesome bathroom that other travelers have mentioned. The bedroom on the upper floor had really good views of the valley and sun rise. Manuala has tastefully decorated the place and made it really comfortable. It...

Manuela and her son Andrea were the best hosts I've met in my travels. Upon arrival Andrea gave us a tour around town on his 4 people vespa and gave us pointers on where to go and where to eat in town. Manuela was like our lost mother who welcomed the four of us with hugs and offered us drinks....
