We arrived by train and walked in the direction of the sassi as it was signposted and arrived at the hotel in about 5 minutes easy walk. The hotel is lovely inside very classy quiet and a nice breakfast provided. The hotel staff were all very nice as was our room which had a balcony with a fantastic view of... More

We stopped in for a night and found this place to be decorated with beautiful furnishing from the past. Beautiful surroundings. Our room was very warm and opening the window let in the noise from the people partying on the street. We were there on a Saturday night in mid September. So we closed the windows. Breakfast was included, cold... More

We were looking for the above, whilst on holiday in Matera in early September. It is very close to The Sassi di Matera which are ancient cave dwellings in the Italian city of Matera. We had our first coffee and cakes before visiting the caves (a must for everybody). On returning from the caves we headed straight for the Albergo... More

We stayed here on a tour and it was delightful. The Hotel was once a wealthy home and has some great character. Centrally located and a great view overlooking the Sassi in the evening (find the small roof deck on the side of the hotel). And the staff was very friendly and helpful. And Matera! Unbelievable!

This place was really easy to get to and from. It's close to the Sassi caves area but within the modern town. It's also near restaurants and gelaterias as well. There are some fairly spacious common areas though artificially lit. On my floor there was even a piano and medieval armor.. The hotel was quite clean and furnishings seemed new,... More

I have stayed 5 nights at Albergo Italia in July. It's a beautiful family run hotel at the center of the old town, very close to the restaurants, caffees but also the main street where people just walk around during the evenings. Hotel is spacious and beautiful, I really enjoyed my huge room with big windows, lovely shutters and a... More

Very nice hotel, centrally located in old area of Matera. Room had a balcony overlooking the main street. Easy access to shops, food, and within easy walking distance of the Sassi Caves. Owners were onsight. Breakfast was very good. They are adding a restaurant which should be open in late 2016. A good choice!

Stayed here for 2 nights during a tour of Southern Italy with Go Ahead Tours. Nicely refurbished hotel in a terrific location. The hostess was a charming lady who told us in Italian how Mel Gibson stayed with them during the filming of the "Passion of the Christ" which was shot in Matera. Breakfast buffet was very nice. Enjoyed the... More

This hotel has an excellent location and represents good value. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was much better than most. Our room was small and institutionally furnished but was very clean, had a comfortable bed and a great view of the gorge and the Sassi.

The staff at this hotel are very accommodating. You can walk to all sites easily from the Duomo (currently under scaffolding) to the Sassi. The rooms are all varied from simple twins to large suites with antique furniture, and some with views. Down the street are excellent restaurants and view points of this stunning UNESCO cave city.
