The 'Agorà nei Sassi' is a small complex of renovated rooms from the original homes, many of which were built in the rock, overseeing the Neolithic caves on the other side of the small canyon. The rooms are well furnished with modern fittings, satellite tv, bathroom with shower, towels and hair dryer, linen etc. In particular, the floor-level 'Agorà' room... More

Nowhere to park in the amazing 'sassi' area, but this is no problem. We asked about hotels at the information centre at the entrance to the 'sassi' and within 3 minutes the owner of Agora arrived in his car. He took us back to our car, led us to where we could park it safely and freely, then took us... More

This was our second stay in Agora, and we look forward to our next visit. We love the location in the heart of the Sassi, with views of the ravine and facing onto a lovely open courtyard where breakfast is served. Agora is run by Enzo, a top host, 100% Materano, with a keen sense for what his clients need,... More

My family and our friend were very comfortable in the upstairs 2 bedroom suite. It was clean, quiet, and had a nice baby cot for my 2 year old. Location and views from this place are amazing and private terrace for breakfast outside was beautiful. The owner Enzo is very attentive to his guests and we definitely would rent from... More

We stayed here for one night after meeting Enzo, the young, friendly, hard-working owner. The rooms are stylish, modern and spotless and Enzo made us very welcome with nothing too much trouble. He recommended a restaurant which sadly was unexpectedly closed that day--No trouble, he recommended another which was one of the best meals of our lives and excellent value.... More

Clean, spacious rooms, marvelous views of the hills, lovely outdoor breakfast space and Enzo! He is like the mayor of Matera. He knows everyone, gives you a map, shows you highlights, gives restaurant recommendations and then sends you on your way. The B&B is near 2 convenient parking lots in old town so we could easily carry our bags but... More

We stayed in a large, first floor room, stylish and comfortable, well furnished, with an adjoining small room, and open to the courtyard terrace, There was even a nice view of the caves out the small window. Parking was conveniently close by and the location was perfect for traveling through town as well as wandering the streets of Matera, a... More

This was a very fortunate find and I would highly recommend it. Enzo the owner couldn't be more helpful and the rooms were full of atmosphere, clean and comfy. Matera is a fascinating place and grows on you. Definitely a place to stay for more than one day.

Beautifully situated with a view of the sassi and cliffs, the rooms are clean, tasteful and comfortable - missing nothing other than wi-fi (soon to be provided). Breakfast is served on an enormous terrace outside the adjoining caffe. The staff are cheerful and go out of their way to be helpful. Take an evening passegiata up the hill to the... More
