We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The room was great with a large kitchen / eating area, bath and a very nice bedroom with a balcony with a view of the north side of Matera. There was also an excellent common use balcony with a similar view. The access to most hotels situated in this part of old... More

We spent 2 nights at this hotel in late June, and to be honest chose it only because others were already full when we were making our bookings for our holiday (in January ... a forewarning to book early for Matera!) While this hotel is in a wonderful position to explore this amazing town, this 'hotel' let itself down in... More

Matera is a curious place. It is an interesting experience to sleep in a cave, albeit a slightly damp and dusty one. We arrived after lunch and were told (in perfectly good English) to go away until the English speaker arrived at 3.30 (she works for two hours & then leaves again). When she arrived she told us - politely-... More

I spent 2 nights in this very nice B&B in the center of Sassi di Matera. We had a nice experience as since the arrival we received a very warm service. Unfortunately the reception is open only in specific day & afternoon timings and this makes it slightly more difficult to arrange the arrival and depart. We got a grotta... More

There was someone walking around Matera helping people find their way, and that is how we located this excellent B & B that we had previously booked online. Matera is so unique that once you get there you understand why it is hard to find things, at first. The receptionist and owners were very helpful to us, in advice for... More

Matera is a place, you must see! Magnificent place, never seen anything like it, the room was built in the cave with all luxury needed, breakfast room like a museum, hospitality very good! I can recommend it to all! Find out, how to drive your car near to the hotel!

The residence was hard to find at first, but when we did find it (just up some steps off Via Fiorentini) it turned out to be a great location, central to the Sassi, and close to a few good restaurants - it was a good base for exploring Matera. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful, providing us with... More

This B&B is well located in the sassi and a short walk from restaurants and the main town. Recently modernised giving comfy well appointed rooms and suites. Efficient and good value parking service which was fantastic after a long drive. Good breakfast. They organised a local guide for a three hour walking tour which was good value, informative and fun.... More

The location of this hotel is fabulous, the comfort, service and friendliness is exceptional. The warmth and kindness of Francesca and Cesare made our stay in Matera very special. Matera has a lot to offer so a stay rather than a day trip is a must and Sassi San Gennaro is the place to stay.
