Awesome and authentic place. The view from the balcony was the best I ever had, it’s really worth to stay here, don’t even look for another place. Perfect starting pont to everywhere, easy to access when you arrive and located close to restaurants and bistros. The owner is very helpful and the breakfast is great here,

Four of us stayed in two rooms at this great mini-tel operated by two brothers who turned the family home into accommodations for travelers. The rooms are interesting, with high ceilings and great views out on street life or the sassi. Breakfast included some homemade goodies, as well as meat and cheese selections. Our room was actually just four steps down into the central area. There is a small patio with chairs and umbrella where you can sit out with a bottle of wine and watch the sassi light up. Right outside the main door is access to a central plaza, with anything you could need and several ways to access the sassi.

Location was perfect and room was clean. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. Raffaele gave us many tips and places to visit. The room was nice but I found the beds really hard. The breakfast was delicious and they served natural, typical and home made food.

La Casa Di Ele is one of the best hotels/B&B’s we have ever stayed at! For a very reasonable price we stayed in one of their apartments a short walk from the hotel. It is beautifully remodeled part of the Sassi. The apartment was tastefully decorated, large and airy, had great air conditioning and a large bathroom. It also came with a lovely terrace in the middle of the sassi. The beds were comfortable and we were so comfortable their. The breakfast is out of this world with so many options and home baked goods from the hotel managers mother. Erasmo is one of the reasons to stay here. He goes so far out of his way to help you enjoy your stay and it is clear he loves Matera. As soon as we arrived he made us coffee and we sat with a nap so he could point out the best sights and restaurants. Listen to him! His advice is impeccable! One thing to note, of course Matera has TONS of stairs. If you stay in the apartments you are going to have to climb up and down to get to the hotel for breakfast. It was worth it! But if you want to cut down on stairs the guest rooms in the main hotel are right off Il Corso with no additional stairs and an easy walk from the train station. I wish every hotel were this exceptional! Don’t hesitate to book this place, you will not regret it!

If I had to make a top 10 of all the places I’ve stayed when being abroad, La Casa di Ele would be one the the top on the list. This place has absolutely everything you can hope when visiting a city: First of all, its location is perfect. You’re within a seven minute walk to the central train station and just in the heart of the city, seconds away from the ancient and wonderful Sassi as well as the main square, Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Second of all, Raffaele and his family, who run the place, are the perfect hosts. He made everything so simple from the moment we arrived! He gave us lots of tips and recommendations (places to visit, local restaurants to have a typical meal far from the usual touristic places…), and always with a smile on his face! A especial mention has to be made to the wonderful breakfast they prepare for their guests. They have fresh riccotta every morning, which is delicious, and Raffaele’s mother bakes an incredibly tasty lemom cake, which is out of this place! Last, but not least, the room in which we stayed was beautifully comfortable and with a balcony with a lovely view over Sassi Barisano, one of the two main neighbourhoods that form the old city. We couldn’t have asked for more. So, if you go to Matera in the near future, La Casa di Ele is the perfect choice for having a wonderful stay!

Positioned nicely in the centre of the old town. We were warmly welcomed by the son's owner who took the time to explain what to see and do in Matera. We were also offered a welcome coffee. Our room was beautiful with a high brick ceiling and small balcony with a fantastic view of the old town. The bed was good with very comfortable linen. ( A little maintenance of painting required in the bathroom to keep up the standard required). The breakfast included several homemade items and as Italian breakfasts go, it was very good.

· good enough location...but there are points to note. When we arrived there were no staff on hand at all, had to phone and wait for the owner to appear. When he came he was very pleasant, but otherwise not around much, other than coming for 10/15 mins to check people in and to serve breakfast in the mornings. The Property was lying wide open when we arrived, front door from the street was wide open, there was no reception, no check in, no staff really at all. We paid for a deluxe room, it was a decent room at best, but to call it deluxe is inaccurate. For example, no tea/ coffee making facilities, which would have been a nice touch in a place like this. It feels a bit like a hostel in the breakfast room as well. On arrival I asked if the room ( Vivaldi) was in a quiet section of the house and was told by the owner that it was..but there was a full scale ridiculously loud concert right outside our window until well after midnight ( imagine trying to sleep with the speakers at an outdoor concert turned up to 10 right outside your window and you get the idea) . Erasmo, the host ( who was really very pleasant) had said I should contact him at any time with problems/ questions, so I sent texts and phoned to ask if he knew when we might expect some quiet that night...he did not respond to text or answer his phone. A pity because with some attention to detail this could have been a very pleasant stay, but as it is I do not think I would go back to this accommodation..really not worth the money we spent to stay here, and definitely not the " deluxe" standard which we believed we were paying for. You could probably find nicer accommodation at a similar price in a quieter part of the town of Matera.

We booked 2 triple rooms (2 couples, 2 children) for one night as we wanted to see Matera. We found free parking a few streets away and walked to the piazza nearby where the owner met us and took us to the B&B where he gave us town maps and marked down a few highlights worth visiting. Our rooms were absolutely beautiful, both had fabulous town views and ours had a terrace. We were able to explore Matera on foot from the B&B as it was so central. We worth booking.

We stayed at La Casa di Ele over New Years and thoroughly enjoyed it. The BnB is located in perfect place, just on the edge of one of the historic Sassis, and still very close to the main piazza and parking. We were one night in the Vivaldi room and for the rest of the time in the Puccini Suite. The Puccini Suite, as you can see from many of the pictures, has a beautiful terrace which we enjoyed even in December! The room is not large, but it is fine since most of the time we were out in the old city. Breakfast was in the main house and featured home made bakery items and plenty of variety. This is most definitely a family-run hotel, with everyone taking on different jobs. Erasmo was very helpful and gave us a very good orientation to the city and helped us make dinner reservations during the very difficult time of New Years. The whole family was as helpful as could be. The hospitality is from the heart and is very authentic. If you need a super fancy place, this is not it. The furnishings are relatively modest, but the place is clean and the family does a great job. Personally, I'd rather support small family owned businesses than stay in a corporate hotel. I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat.

May 22-25 Our group stayed 3 nights here in the middle of the centro storico and jump-off to the exploration of the Sassi. We arrived early before lunch, but Erasmo, brother Raffaele, and their father had our rooms ready and helped us get our bags up the steps. We had the room at the very top, Puccini Suite, which had a rooftop terrace. Unless one is able to utilize the terrace, it is a waste and just adds to the cost since the room itself is not large. It does have an extra room at the other side of the entry and a twin bed with lots of light. Cons: The bathroom is small, the shower is tight, no closet or armoire, and biting insects. The breakfast is continental and average. For what we got, the room was pricey compared to the other BBs the past 19 days. Pros: The location is wonderful. The Sassi is just 5 min away down the staircase in the piazza. The Gran Caffe bar is open early at 5 am and serves a strong cuppa joe. All 3 hosts are working hard to insure we have a positive BB experience. But they could invest some time and money to upgrade the physical plant as it is overdue.
