The staff was friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast. That is highly recommended accommodation in Matera. The room was cozy and tastefully furnished with a private terrace/big balcony. The view on Matera was amazing both at day and at night. There is no car access to the hotel. Be prepared to carry your lagging to the hotel making about 50-70 steps....

This is an amazing hotel, the room was so clean and we slept so well. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. We would recommend this hotel without hesitation. Just Remember that this is a hotel with a reception apart from the rooms as the rooms were all once dwellings for people, yes the rooms are in caves that...

I stayed 1 night in this hotel. It is in the old town but not a cave hotel. My room was 201. I do not recommend that room as it was to far from the reception and bathroom room is not good. I could not take a shower. Because it was to tight and the shower curtain was not look...

A pleasant friendly place with Sassi (cave like) accommodation scattered near the reception. It appears to be individual houses which have been bought by the hotel and each have different interiors. The breakfast was a wonderful mixture of local food.

Spacious hotel, huge rooms, extremely clean, excellent breakfast and beautiful views!!! Great access point to exploring. It had a very great combination of elements that made it comfortable. There were some underground rooms and breakfast area.

Hotel Sassi cannot be compared to a 'normal' hotel - the rooms are (for the most part) converted caves and have a microclimate all of their own. Staying in Room 402 in late September the room had a slight fusty smell when we opened the doors but this was mainly due to the fact that there were only two small...

The hotel is an excellant location not far from the centre. But beware lots of stairs to get to/from rooms to reception. Rooms ok but really you are paying for the view, which terrific. A falcon was using the sill next to my room as a look out.

A great location an easy walk from the main piazza. Superb breakfast - best so far in Italy. Friendly helpful staff. But... avoid room 404 which is the old cistern (water holding well at bottom of cave system, converted into a hotel room). It was great fun staying in cave room until it rained, when every surface became wet to...

This hotel is in a great spot near the central square. The rooms are as others have described. Functional but not fancy. This place is our style. Lots of places nearby to visit. Good restaurants too. Not an easy place to find or to get around if you have any mobility issues at all. All kind of steep rock stairs....
